Constant buzzing sound
Reviewed 1 week ago

Unfortunately my wife and I had a constant buzzing sound in the room which was not rectified by hotel staff. We reported this several times and eventually a member of staff came to the room to investigate and stated it was likely to be from the neighboring property and would revert with options. Following a long wait we chased again only to be informed that they were unable to rectify the issue and even though there were vacant rooms, they were not willing to move us as it was not in the same price category as the existing room. We were told to 'suck it up' in not so many words and during check out, it came to our attention that this (rather unhelpful) individual had wrongly notified reception that the issue had been resolved even though it hadn't. We got the impression that we had inconvenienced the individual that was in charge of resolving issues by bringing this up.

Also, only got milk with our coffee in the morning when we asked for it and on the third morning we were told we would need to pay extra for the milk.

It's a shame as it could have easily been a lovely stay. All in all, shocking service. We do not recommend staying here.

A little gem right on the beach
Reviewed 1 week ago

We stayed on this hotel between Feb 1st and 8th. This is a lovely little hotel right on the beach and in the middle of everything in the town. Extremely close to shopping, restaurants and the nightlife.

The hotel is very well maintained and the rooms / studios are well equipped and planned. All with big balconies facing the ocean. The studios and the entire facility is very clean. You will have full or partly ocean view from all studios. The little pool is more for decoration than swimming. The sunbeds on the beach are placed between palms and facing the fishing boats that are anchored in front of the hotel. The staff told us that we could swim between the boats but we never did and we never saw anyone doing that. Instead people took a quick dip in the pool and then returned to the sunbeds. Alternatively (for most people staying there) walk 5 minutes to the right and find the big beach with a lot of beach clubs with sunbeds and services.

The beaches here are unfortunately covered by sea grass every morning. This is being taken away during most of the morning until lunch. You should also be aware of the erosion of beach since the ocean flushes the sand into the sea. The beach transformed heavily during our stay there.

Since this is a small hotel you should not expect an army of waiters and service staff. They do provide a small complementary breakfast buffet on the beach every morning. But if you are looking for a full breakfast there are many beach restaurants offering that in the area.

The personnel at the front desk is rather reserved and if you want to change room or agree on a later check out time etc, you will have to be very resolute in your communication. What also surprised me and made me disappoint was their tardiness in responding on email. It took them 1 month to respond on my email when asking for an upgrade. I have never experienced anything like that from any other hotel.

But this aside. The hotel is great and is a true gem hidden between the big marble palaces along the beach. Well located and close to everything.
You should be aware of that being close to everything in this case really mean being close to a very hectic night life. We are talking about a night life that is louder than Las Vegas just outside of this hotel. The noise was unbelievable and it goes on until 5AM. However - when entering the hotel most of that noise is gone and when you close the balcony door to your studio it is almost completely silent. So we were not disturbed.

I would recommend this hotel if you are not looking for to stay at a big all-inclusive resort.

Advise to management:
Be more prompt in responding on emails from scheduling customers. A more service minded attitude at the front desk would also serve you good.

Winter Family Vacation
Reviewed 2 weeks ago

We stayed at Playa Palms for 5 days in January with our two kids, age 10 and 8, and we just loved it. The hotel is located on a really quiet street, right on the beach. The beach is very small and fishing boats are moored out front, but we walked just a few steps south to the Lido beach club for days spent swimming in the ocean. They also have a really neat pool running down the center of the property, with little waterfalls, which combined with the landscaping was very lovely and relaxing. The rooms are very spacious with a really nice kitchen and full sized refrigerator.

We really enjoyed that EVERYTHING was walking distance, Walmart was a couple blocks for groceries, and pick-up for our excursions to Xel-Ha and Coba were located a couple blocks at Panama Jack Resort, amazing restaurants were everywhere. We probably put on 50 miles exploring, day and night, no need for taxis. Also loved just sitting on our balcony, swinging in the hammock listening to the ocean. Love this spot and will definitely go back!

Great location except for the disco next door
Reviewed 3 weeks ago

Hard to sleep here, the disco next door is loud and goes on for most of the night. Rooms and resort are wonderful, we will not return due the the loud music that goes till 3 or 4 in the morning. The hotel is right on the beach making it so easy to walk along the beach. Location in town is great, easy to get to all that happens on fifth avenue.
The loud music that happens at night is really the only down side of this property.

Beautiful Boutique Hotel
Reviewed 3 weeks ago

This is our 3rd visit here. I absolutely love their little suites. Service is amazing here, rooms are gorgeous and well kept up. Breakfast is adequate, you can request more items that arn't included at a reasonable price. The beach is pretty but they have some work to do on getting rid of the seaweed. Yes it's a problem here like everywhere else but they only rake it into piles every day, those piles accumulate every day then it seems like only twice a week it gets picked up, those piles smell horrible and we never utilized the beach there once. we noticed all the oyher hotels around us completely removed it every day. This is a must when Playa Palms is charging what they do for rooms. Again I love this hotel and location, it's quite, just a little pricy for not being able to use the beach.
