Nestled between the jungles and beaches of Playa del Carmen, this nine bedroom hacienda-style stay embraces a countryside luxe vibe, with plenty of mother nature factored in. Its exterior, made up of wooden shutters and local materials such as stone and concrete, give this hotel a simplistic and laid back feel. The earthy decor includes authentic hand-crafted chandeliers and antiques, while the walls are lined in local Mexican art. Rooms at the resort take on an airy feel and are dressed in hues of white with rustic wooden furniture. The spacious Terraza Suite, starting at 322 square feet with an outdoor bath and terrace, is well-worth the extra splurge. In terms of common space, there are plenty of places at the resort for guests to kick back and relax, such as the hotel’s lush garden or “The Seed,” a breezy outdoor terrace known for both its panoramic ocean and jungle views. For a snack or healthy meal, guests can visit the open kitchen loft, stocked with meals and drinks.
In the Area
The hotel is located just minutes from the lively 5th Avenue of Playa del Carmen, which is home to favorite local restaurants and beaches. La Cueva del Chango, surrounded by Mayan ruins, is a don’t miss. This restaurant and fresh juice bar serves up local Mexican style fare for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Think shrimp and oaxaca cheese tacos served with chili sauce. Those looking for more adventure can visit the Mayan Ruins of Tulum, just an hour away from the hotel by car.
How to Get There
Its an excellent place with an old world character and strong eco-friendly feel. Location wise its also situated right next to the main strip with shops, bars, restaurants as well as close to the beach. They also provide free wine :)
I will give this place 4.5 out of 5. My only complain is, I asked for a tour operator to Chichen Itza and they hooked me with a local operator who barely spoke English and we were stuck whole day with a Spanish speaking guide with a bunch of domestic tourists. The tour operator also picked people from almost Tulum, this meant we had to drive thru the longer route to pick other people.
It was also $90 per person, which is not less for any good tour. Though in fairness our request was a bit last minute
I can not say enough scout this beautiful place but wow! The personal afternoon we received was impressive. If you are looking for a romantic place but still have the ability to walk around and did tourist activities this is your place. Their breakfast was delicious and fresh every morning. The location of this hotel is perfect, close to shopping ,restaurants, bars and convenient stores. The public beach is very accessible. This was our first time here but we are definitely coming back. Even with construction going on next door it in no way affected our stay.
My boyfriend and I visited La Semilla and fell in love with the beautiful hotel. The staff is very friendly, the rooms are amazing, spacious and clean with beautiful decoration and last but not least the breakfast, we had the best chilaquiles we ever had and still dreaming about it! xx
Stayed at the Semilla recently and can't say enough good things about the place. The rooms are adorable, wonderfully decorated, very comfortable and great for relaxing including the balconies. The garden is very nicely done and breakfast is served out there. It includes fresh fruit, good coffee and a local Mexican dish. Service was very friendly.
The hotel does not have an elevator, which might be an issue if people are not mobile. And currently there is construction next door that can be noisy. Not a big issue for people that are gone all day, but might influence a day at the hotel.
I would be back once the construction next door is done.
We came here on our honeymoon, and very much enjoyed our stay. The hotel is "rough luxe", so don't expect a television (there isn't one), although the wifi is quite good and the A/C is great. Location is great - close enough to the main strip, yet far enough to have peace and quiet nights.
We stayed in one of the suites on the top floor, which was incredibly roomy. Each room seems to have a story of some unique furniture it may have. We made good use of the organic insect repellent they provided for us! An evening on the balcony enjoying some wine is a favorite memory.
The breakfast was one of our favorite parts of the day, with fresh fruit, variety of breads and cereal, and a different main warm dish every day. Our favorite was the squash blossom quesadillas.
The staff is awesome - great recommendations, extremely service oriented. Thanks especially to Brito and Alexis!
The one thing to be aware is there is construction going on next door (like on the other side of the wall), which starts a bit after 8am and ends after 5pm. It did not affect us, since we planned to be out during these times. Call or email the hotel to see if the noisier part of construction is over - they were expecting it to be over soon.
Looking forward to our next stay here!
