Nestled between the jungles and beaches of Playa del Carmen, this nine bedroom hacienda-style stay embraces a countryside luxe vibe, with plenty of mother nature factored in. Its exterior, made up of wooden shutters and local materials such as stone and concrete, give this hotel a simplistic and laid back feel. The earthy decor includes authentic hand-crafted chandeliers and antiques, while the walls are lined in local Mexican art. Rooms at the resort take on an airy feel and are dressed in hues of white with rustic wooden furniture. The spacious Terraza Suite, starting at 322 square feet with an outdoor bath and terrace, is well-worth the extra splurge. In terms of common space, there are plenty of places at the resort for guests to kick back and relax, such as the hotel’s lush garden or “The Seed,” a breezy outdoor terrace known for both its panoramic ocean and jungle views. For a snack or healthy meal, guests can visit the open kitchen loft, stocked with meals and drinks.
In the Area
The hotel is located just minutes from the lively 5th Avenue of Playa del Carmen, which is home to favorite local restaurants and beaches. La Cueva del Chango, surrounded by Mayan ruins, is a don’t miss. This restaurant and fresh juice bar serves up local Mexican style fare for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Think shrimp and oaxaca cheese tacos served with chili sauce. Those looking for more adventure can visit the Mayan Ruins of Tulum, just an hour away from the hotel by car.
How to Get There
I could not recommend this hotel more highly. From the second we arrived we were made feel so welcome and everything possible was done to make our stay memorable. The hotel is absolutely beautiful, from the rooms to the landscaped terraces and roof top. The homemade breakfasts in the morning were delicious and the complimentary wine in the evenings on the terrace was a very thoughtful touch. This hotel has thought of everything and there were never any additional charges. All staff members were so friendly, they always had great recommendations and were very helpful. If you are coming to Mexico you must stay here, it is so relaxing and the location is fantastic- a few minutes away from the beach and lots of great bars and restaurants. There are also so many great day trips to do from Playa. Thank you so much, it was the perfect place to stay to end our trip!
Myself and my girlfriend really enjoyed our stay at Hotel La Semilla. During our 2 week trip to Mexico, we visited Isla Holbox, Isla Mujeres, Tulum and Playa Del Carmen. After a busy fortnight of moving around, it was great to round out our trip with somewhere like Hotel La Semilla. We stayed for 5 nights and while we did spend some time on the beaches of Playa del Carmen, we used it mostly as a base from which to do day trips to Akumal, Cenotes etc.
The hotel itself is great. The rooms are big, really nicely furnished and there are a lot of thoughtful touches that really made a big difference (free breakfast, help yourself drinks, coffees, areas to sit out in etc). The staff were great, super friendly while being low key. I would really recommend it.
As a solo traveler, this place was the perfect spot to recharge after scuba diving and exploring. It is important to note this is not a resort style hotel and it is better suited for guests who have busy days and want to unwind in the morning and evening.
The picture perfect garden with an amazing music playlist made for a great setting to enjoy a glass of wine and unwind with a book in the evening. It was also magical to have near perfect breakfasts there every morning.
I loved the rustic decor and the warmth of the place. The staff were attentive, friendly and truly made me feel welcomed.
The reason this place got four stars instead of five was because the water pressure was very unreliable within the room and there was a balancing game with the shower temperature being scalding hot or too cold. I’m hoping they fix these issues because I’m looking forward to returning in the future.
