Overview

Shabby chic beach stay with natural roots and rustic luxe Mexican flare in lively Playa del Carmen

The Lowdown

Nestled between the jungles and beaches of Playa del Carmen, this nine bedroom hacienda-style stay embraces a countryside luxe vibe, with plenty of mother nature factored in. Its exterior, made up of wooden shutters and local materials such as stone and concrete, give this hotel a simplistic and laid back feel. The earthy decor includes authentic hand-crafted chandeliers and antiques, while the walls are lined in local Mexican art. Rooms at the resort take on an airy feel and are dressed in hues of white with rustic wooden furniture. The spacious Terraza Suite, starting at 322 square feet with an outdoor bath and terrace, is well-worth the extra splurge. In terms of common space, there are plenty of places at the resort for guests to kick back and relax, such as the hotel’s lush garden or “The Seed,” a breezy outdoor terrace known for both its panoramic ocean and jungle views. For a snack or healthy meal, guests can visit the open kitchen loft, stocked with meals and drinks.

In the Area

The hotel is located just minutes from the lively 5th Avenue of Playa del Carmen, which is home to favorite local restaurants and beaches. La Cueva del Chango, surrounded by Mayan ruins, is a don’t miss. This restaurant and fresh juice bar serves up local Mexican style fare for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Think shrimp and oaxaca cheese tacos served with chili sauce. Those looking for more adventure can visit the Mayan Ruins of Tulum, just an hour away from the hotel by car.

Great Place. Great Service.

My wife and loved it thoroughly. The place was really cool and the service was great. Brito “Carlos” is the pro making it all happen. Make sure you go slow and enjoy the breakfast. Solid location right off the main strip, and two blocks to the beach. Book Mia’s for massage.

Very good breakfast, otherwise value for price is rather low

We really enjoyed our stay in La Semilla and I want to emphasize the friendliness of the staff!! We were greeted/checked in very friendly and also the staff at breakfast was super nice. Breakfast was actually the highlight of the stay, I really enjoyed it. There was fresh fruit, very good coffee, a lot of fresh and healthy stuff such as granola, seeds, nuts etc. and we were served a kind of hot breakfast burrito made out of veggies, very yummy!
The room we stayed in was totally fine, not a lot of storage place but as we only stayed one night it was fine. The problem was rather that there was no hot water/little water at all and we had only arrived from a overall 20 h trip from Germany. We were told they were working on the water pump and it should work in the morning. Also the next morning, the water pressure was very low and you had to wait a long time until the water actually got warm (not really hot after all).
The noise from the surrounding restaurants/bars can be annoying I think, but thats not the fault of the hotel. I slept with earplugs which worked fine. One improvement point would be to install mosquito nets so you can open the windows for fresh air.
You can see that there has been put a lot of thought and care in the amenities und the style of the hotel and we really enjoyed that (organic shampoo, complimentary water in glass bottles, cute decoration...) and I think we would definitely come back to stay here, but I have to say that the price per night doesn‘t match the value. It‘s a really nice and cute boutique hotel with amazing breakfast but not worth 140€ or so... we stayed here using reward points so I really can‘t complain, but if we would have payed I would have been disappointed I think in regards to the standards of the facilities.
The location is very nice, close to the beach and more in the quieter area of Playa with some nice restaurants close by.
Thanks for welcoming us our first night in Mexico!

Great Location!

The hotel has only 9 rooms with one located on the main level. Be aware that there is no elevator and each floor has 2 - 3 rooms on it so you may be climbing a lot of stairs and carrying your luggage to the top floor.
Although we had one of the smallest rooms, #3, Brito worked with us to provide 2 out of the 5 nights we stayed in a lovely room located next door, #4. Located on the street with a balcony, it was very spacious. Rooms are very eclectic and cool.
Don’t expect a luxury experience. Rooms towels were thread bare and they don’t provide wash cloths. I also thought it was odd that tissues were not provided. The bedding is not comfortable and they only provide one pillow and a thin blanket.
You may wonder why I’ve given it a 4 Star: The staff is excellent and a special shout out to Brito, who works the 7AM - 3PM shift. Hotel provides breakfast, starting with fresh fruit and then a different dish each day. One day we had Pastor Tacos made with hibiscus flours instead of meat and they were so great! One has the option of eating in the garden area which is a calm oasis just steps from 5th Avenue and the Beach.
Brito provided us with a beach umbrella and cooler for our short walk to the beach, and another day when it rained, umbrellas. Despite the poor linen quality, I would stay again, but would be certain to book well in advance so that I received a more spacious room.

Loved this place

First of all, Playa del Carmen is so much nicer than Cancun! Don't even waste time in Cancun.
This hotel was in the best part of PdC, close to the main street (I think called 5th Avenue), close to millions of restaurants, massage parlor, etc. The street is full of trees, it is really nice. The hotel is small, only have about 7 or 9 rooms, and is very thoughtfully decorated, with a cute garden. The breakfast area is also lovely.
I liked the room, though it annoyed me that the bed frame was creaking, and the A/C was loud, we could hear it when a neighbor turned it on. This should really be replaced.
The staff and owner are really amazing. I want to go back there!

Beautiful trees, delicious breakfast

Hotel is as expected from website descriptions. The location is super convienient to great restaurants and about 1/2 mile walk to the center of downtown tourist area. Delicious breakfast with local fruits and healthy organic options. Great recommendations from friendly hotel staff.

Low rating for a few items:
- did not honor my Marriott status with complimentary room upgrade
- room was clean and welcoming, but austere
- mattress was hard as a rock
- no washcloths

Also know, there was significant construction noise in Dec 2018 as a new hotel is being built right next door.
