Class up your next Caribbean getaway at Andaz Mayakoba Resort Riviera Maya, a chic retreat on the sands of Playa del Carmen. One of the top-ranked hotels in town on TripAdvisor, this boutique base shows off a modern and minimalist take on tropical design, among beautifully landscaped grounds. Step out of your light-filled, open-plan guest room to discover three glittering sleek swimming holes and the Mayakoba Resort’s peaceful lagoons and lush gardens – all crisscrossed by more than three miles of nature trails that you can explore on a complimentary bike.
Also enjoy a bit of local flavor, along with the locally inspired style. One of the hotel’s highlights is its dining program, comprising four restaurants and specializing in Yucatán street-food and seafood dishes: tacos, tortas and ceviche, for instance. And once you’ve taken in the sights and sounds and treated your taste buds the regional cuisine, get your sense of touch in on the Mexican Caribbean experience. Stop by the hydrotherapy spa, and surrender yourself to the hands of a seasoned therapist, in a beachy wellness treatment.
Your room is a tropical oasis, a breezy, light-filled, open-plan hideaway that features minimalist lines, decorative tiles and local artworks. You’ll enjoy having your very own terrace or balcony, overlooking your choice of lagoons or sea.
Savor the flavors of Latin American cooking at the four eateries and drinkeries. Casa Amate is the most formal of the bunch, while Cocina Milagro opens all day for seafood dishes, presented buffet-style, and OllaTaco and OllaCeviche serve their namesake specialties on the beach. Room service is also available, 24 hours a day.
Six treatment rooms with two hydrotherapy areas, plus a salon, make up the peaceful wellness center, where you can go for a beachy spa treatment or beauty service. The full-service fitness center holds cardio machines and a yoga studio and complements the three miles of biking and jogging nature trails outside.
Since you’re right on the Mexican Caribbean, your first order of business will likely be beach bumming – or perhaps appreciating the seaside in a more active way, such as snorkeling, kitesurfing, stand-up paddleboarding or taking a sunrise-yoga lesson on the sands. Sign up for a guided kayak tour of the lagoons, as well, or ride a complimentary bike through the three miles of nature trails. The concierge can schedule tee time at the surrounding resort’s Greg Norman-designed El Camaleón golf course and academy, and you can avail yourself of this larger property’s tennis courts, archery-lesson offerings and croquet equipment; simply hop on the Mayakoba Connection Ferry Service. Younger guests may visit the convenient kids club.
How to Get There
We loved our trip here. Staff were lovely and our kids were so upset to leave. Special call out to Alma at the kids club and Itzhel at Milagro who are 5* employees and went absolutely out of their way to make our kids feel so special (and help them learn some Spanish!). Food was fantastic at all restaurants, beachfront restaurant (Sotovento?) was especially outstanding. All staff went out of their way to accomodate kids meal requests which also helped mealtimes be enjoyable for all. We very seldom return to hotels as we like exploring new places but I suspect we might be back to this Andaz again in the future! Tips: We had Open Kitchen package for 2 days of our stay, not sure we got full value from that as we don't drink much alcohol although food options were great. Also, ask for the a la carte menu at breakfast, it's good value. If you have young kids, consider staying at the lagoon side where the kids club is located, we stayed at the beachfront and while it is a lovely atmosphere, we did a lot of trips between the lagoon amd beach sides of the hotel!
Where to begin about this wonderful resort? The setting can’t be beat in a complex of four luxury hotels five miles north of Playa Del Carmen. You arrive in a lobby they call the Sanctuary, are greeted with a tequila drink and taken to your elegant (but not overdone) room that’s stocked with free snacks and non-alcoholic drinks, lots of towels and toiletries and extras like flip-flops, beach bag and robes. The rooms and the restaurants all are 5-star quality. Andaz Mayakoba has the prettiest beach I’ve ever seen – perfect for long walks and a magnificent backdrop for photos of sunrises and sunsets. (And – wait for it – there’s a machine that sprays sunblock on you at the pool). Staff at the pool comes by with little buckets full of cold water bottles on ice. And, speaking of staff – wow! From manager Pascal Dupuis to the multiple drivers who take you from place to place on golf carts, staff is friendly and helpful. They are present to help when you need them but never overbearing. Be sure to have the buffet breakfast at Cocina Milagro and at least one dinner in the dining area on the beach. One morning, we took a jungle tour of the lagoons on a quiet electric boat. I’ve never seen such beautiful birds, fish, turtles, etc, and our guide really knew what he was talking about. Andaz Mayakoba is elegant but not stuffy. You don’t need to dress up. Best beach vacation I’ve ever taken.
still here, had to write in case anyone is considering booking. wow!
the room-spacious and one of the cleanest. (we had a lagoon room)
the beach, pool, grounds-expertly groomed
the spa-*IS* the most beautiful spas i have ever been too, and i've been to alot in different countries. absolutely unforgettable.
service-way above and beyond. one of the drivers even surprised us with a replacement bottle of wine.
food-terrific. need ressies sometimes, and i even enjoyed room service several times. coffee and fresh juices are great.
location-great, a 45 min or so drive from airport and you can grab a cab to town if you feel like it. shuttles or golf cars can take you to the other hotels on the property for a drink or meal.
weather-was great. in turks and caicos, or aruba the weather is very dry, very hot well into the 90s sometimes even at night. i prefer the gulf breeze and the temperatures were lovely.
etc=def an effort in keeping it sustainable here too. golf carts are electric, straws are not plastic, and there isn't alot of fuss or wasted extras in frozen drinks or on the beach for example.
golf cars or bikes take you to and from the beach. my husband and i were even joking that even though beach front sounds great, if you have kids they would love and only remember the golf carts if you have a lagoon side room.
check in process could be easier. took a while, not sure why. seemed to be overcomplicated.
book it! I'd definitely come back.
My family (2 adults, 2 kids - age 7 &3) stayed here for Spring Break. The resort is beautiful. Very relaxing and peaceful. The staff was very friendly and service was great.
We had a lagoon view suite and it was very spacious. The kids loved the plunge pool and balcony. We were on the top level but could still see fish and turtles in the lagoon.
The lagoon side pool was amazing. More relaxing and larger than the beach side pool. The staff and lifeguard by the pool were very nice and the service was excellent.
We also took the eco cruise around the property and it was lovely. Sergio, our guide, was very knowledgeable.
This is my 4th Andaz Property to stay at and it's the best one yet. I love every Andaz I've stayed at and this one is so great. I love the location. I love Mayakoba for access to other properties restaurants. If you are looking for a luxury resort with spa - stay here!
