On Mexico’s Caribbean coast, the ever-popular resort city of Playa del Carmen is packed with hotels, but on a quiet side street near the beach, El Taj Oceanfront & Beachside Condos offers amenities that set it apart. Condos are split between two buildings: The four-story El Taj Oceanfront stretches in a curve from the beach to the street, while El Taj Beachside snakes through lush gardens, past waterfalls and koi ponds. The open palms of a Buddha statue mark the entrance of Oceanfront, but both buildings exude an Asian-inspired serenity.
Bed and Bath
The condos are individually designed, but all have one to three bedrooms, separate living and dining areas and full kitchens outfitted with refrigerators and stoves. The homey vibe is deliberate, but you don’t have to worry about housework here: A private chef is available to prepare all meals (for a fee), and there’s free daily maid service. In the Oceanfront building, the three-bedroom penthouses have hot tubs with views of the ocean, as well as outdoor grills and seating areas that are made for gatherings.
El Taj’s Indigo Beach Club & Restaurant is a laid-back but sophisticated spot compared with some of the rowdier clubs in town. Everyone from families to singles set up camp on the comfy Balinese beach beds to take in the daytime scene while DJs spin in the background. Guests also have access to perks at the hotel’s two sister properties: the Gym, a fitness center just a few steps away at Porto Playa, and the spa at the affiliated Maya Villa.
In the Area
The surrounding Riviera Maya is filled with nature parks and impressive archaeological sites. Head south to explore the ancient cliffside Mayan ruins of Tulum; frolic with dolphins and snorkel over schools of tropical fish in the Caribbean Sea; and discover cenotes, aquatic sinkholes common in the Yucatan. For a dose of retail therapy, check out Playa del Carmen’s Fifth Avenue and sample tequila cocktails at a handful of lively local bars along the strip. Golfers can make the most of the ocean-facing golf courses in the region, including the top-notch Greg Norman–designed El Camaleón.
How to Get There
Room was very spacious and beds were very comfortable. Great location close to 5th Ave. Washer/dryer in room was a little noisy, but overall no complaints!! Loved the roof top patio.
(If visiting 5th Ave, Parrilla Urbana is a Must .. amazing restaurant)!!
The hotel is very nice. The pools and specially the terraces (aticos) are beautiful. Unfortunately the beach is very narrow as most beaches in Playa del Carmen area. The rooms and bathrooms are very clean and the beds comfortable.
My girlfriend and I had a lovely time at Playa del Carmen and at this apartment. It is adjacent to the main strip 5a Avenida (but not too near the noisy clubs), and a short walk to the great beaches. The beach in front of the building is small and ok yes, it has fishing boats moored just in front. Is that terrible?? I have read some bad reviews about this, surely all you have to do is wade out a bit to avoid them. Another complaint I have read is the seaweed, very smelly in the heat. But its wrong to write as if that s the Tajs fault!! This is a natural phenomenon, happens when the wind blows that way, and ok, yes, it smells. Bad luck if it happens to coincide with your holiday, but it is not the fault of the management, and they do try to clear it up quite promptly.
The apartments themselves are very cozy, balinese style, decorated with good taste, and with all the comforts. We loved it and recommend the place.
This hotel are great for you family or couples vacation !you in the best location in playa and right on the beach I recommended it with blessing !!Rooms and units are so comport and so convenience they was thinking about every detail to get your vacation perfect
Stayed at El aTaj a few times. There was an issue with our original unit that was oceanfront due to the previous guest. They put us in the beachside unit penthouse that was huge and still had a great view and gave us complimentary breakfast each morning to make up for the issue. Pedro at Indigo Beachclub is our favorite! Another great trip!
