Covering 36 acres of mangrove, lagoon, and powdery beachfront, the adults-only Blue Diamond has a sophistication that belies its proximity to Cancún and Playa del Carmen. Minimalist Zen rooms (all clean lines, high-quality marble, limestone, and polished bamboo, and floor-to-ceiling windows that keep the interiors bright) and an indoor/outdoor spa set the mood for relaxation, while all-inclusive rates banish mark-up stress. Adding to the Zen feel, Asian touches such as sliding Japanese doors and rock gardens remain from the property’s former life as a Mandarin Oriental. But unlike the buffet-driven properties in the nearby tourist towns, the service here is highly individualized. Think à la carte dining, customized minibars, and golf cart chauffeurs at your beck and call to whisk you between the two oceanfront pools—one for floating, one for laps—and spa, which features his-and-hers hammams. Unlike many full-service hotels, which rely on mass buffets, Blue Diamond serves à la carte dishes at the three on-site restaurants. Ambar, named for its stunning amber chandelier, offers fine dining and an occasion to dress up, while the more casual Aguamarina and the beach tapas bar have Caribbean views.
In the Area
Thirty minutes from the resort, Xel-Ha is a natural water park of lagoons and cenotes where you can swim with dolphins and manatees or trek along the seabed in a retro diving helmet. While the vibe at the resort is decidedly mellow, downtown Playa del Carmen is ideal for club hopping. Start the night with cocktails and ocean views at the Blue Parrot Beach Club and work your way up to the Vegas-style variety show at Congo Bongo. For a change from the international fare at the resort, sample traditional Mayan dishes such as tamales with goat cheese at Yaxche. Read more about what to see, eat and do on the Riviera Maya.
How to Get There
My boyfriend and I had an amazing time at Blue Diamond. It was EXACTLY what we wanted - quiet, peaceful, alone time with great food!! We stayed in the Patio Suite, it was a private villa type room with our own pool (really spacious and lovely room) and our butler Julian provided exceptional service!! Julian was attentive to all our needs. Anything we wanted, he had it for us. My boyfriend even planned a whole surprise filled day for my bday (champagne breakfast in the room, parasailing, spa day and dinner on the beach) with Julian and it was all executed so well!! We couldn’t have asked for a better butler. One of our favorite things about the resort is the bicycles, it’s a really nice touch and another bonding moment. To get to the restaurants or beach, the hotel provided you with bicycles to ride there and it was a beautiful ride since the hotel is technically in the middle of a jungle. It was always a peaceful ride. Thank you Blue Diamond for the hospitality!!! Loved it. For even more pics, check out my IG @briiknight “Mexico” highlight.
Blue Diamond is beyond amazing. It is quiet and serene and you are pampered your entire stay. It is an adult only resort so it is much quieter than most resorts.
The food five star and was beyond what we expected. The white sand beaches, without rocks, was a real treat. Sitting beach side and being waited on all day was very relaxing.
All of the staff was exceptional but there were a few that went above and beyond... They were David and Dagoberto at Ceviche Grill, and Roman at the restaurants.
We had an issue with the mattress and they replaced it that day. The ceiling fans were only on/off and were set too high. They came right away and modified but it was noisy to sleep with. I agree with other reviews, they did not restock the water or mini bar unless requested but then did it right away.
We were always picked up promptly after we called for a cart.
What a disappointment.
Despite the fact that it's called a "luxury", "five star" hotel it was quite expensive and highly disappointing.
The room is huge and comfortable *BUT* our air conditioner wasn't working well, we didn't had hot water in the shower, and the bed literally gave us back pain at the morning.
We talked to the front desk admin, which was really nice and said that she will send someone to check it all up and will let us know.
After some time they said that everything was fixed, but the AC was still didn't work properly, the shower still didn't had hot water and they put small mattress softener that only made things worse.
It seems that the hotel was understaffed as I constantly waited for a golf cart driver to take us from place to place.
The restaurant near the beach has awful service - we always keep waiting for the food way to much time, didn't get the drinks for almost 30 minutes and basically felt that they only serve people who gave high tips to them.
The beds and seats on the beachfront is not for everyone as you would expected - they are only for specific rooms and you can't use them even if that rooms are free. Someone gave us a hint that if you will give tip to the guy who is responsible on them - he will arrange you one.
We choose all inclusive of course, and our fridge was full of drinks and some snacks, but they didn't fill it unless we requested. The same happen with the water bottles at the bathroom.
Do yourself a favor and choose somewhere else in Playa Del Carmen.
