Sophisticated all-inclusive amid lagoons, mangroves and beachfront along Mexico's Riviera Maya

The Lowdown

Covering 36 acres of mangrove, lagoon, and powdery beachfront, the adults-only Blue Diamond has a sophistication that belies its proximity to Cancún and Playa del Carmen. Minimalist Zen rooms (all clean lines, high-quality marble, limestone, and polished bamboo, and floor-to-ceiling windows that keep the interiors bright) and an indoor/outdoor spa set the mood for relaxation, while all-inclusive rates banish mark-up stress. Adding to the Zen feel, Asian touches such as sliding Japanese doors and rock gardens remain from the property’s former life as a Mandarin Oriental. But unlike the buffet-driven properties in the nearby tourist towns, the service here is highly individualized. Think à la carte dining, customized minibars, and golf cart chauffeurs at your beck and call to whisk you between the two oceanfront pools—one for floating, one for laps—and spa, which features his-and-hers hammams. Unlike many full-service hotels, which rely on mass buffets, Blue Diamond serves à la carte dishes at the three on-site restaurants. Ambar, named for its stunning amber chandelier, offers fine dining and an occasion to dress up, while the more casual Aguamarina and the beach tapas bar have Caribbean views.

In the Area

Thirty minutes from the resort, Xel-Ha is a natural water park of lagoons and cenotes where you can swim with dolphins and manatees or trek along the seabed in a retro diving helmet. While the vibe at the resort is decidedly mellow, downtown Playa del Carmen is ideal for club hopping. Start the night with cocktails and ocean views at the Blue Parrot Beach Club and work your way up to the Vegas-style variety show at Congo Bongo. For a change from the international fare at the resort, sample traditional Mayan dishes such as tamales with goat cheese at Yaxche. Read more about what to see, eat and do on the Riviera Maya.

Another amazing trip
Reviewed 2 days ago

This is our third visit and besides some small issues this resort continues to impress. The staff are second to none and continually go out of their way to make your vacation an unforgettable experience. A big shout out to Samanya and Jorge who really made our last night special. We had the pleasure to stay in 3 room types this trip and although all the rooms are great and private the beach front casita was truly amazing, if you can try to upgrade for a night. The food is also excellent well prepared fresh and perfectly portioned. Thank you Pedro and Dogaburto for great breakfast service Salvador Gilberto and Manuel for keeping my glass full and Herminio for make dinners a 5 star experience.

I can not name all the staff but everyone is friendly and so helpful. The beach did have some seaweed but was cleaned daily.

If you want to relax and unwind Blue Diamond is the perfect couples getaway. We can not wait to return

Overall a superb hotel let down by a few small details...

First the good : junior patio suite was lovely although leaked when heavy rain one day. Food was high standard and varied but invariably was only lukewarm in the aqua marine restaurant. The other restaurant was better with hotter food . Beach and pool areas were superb with guys always working hard to clear seaweed. Overall the staff were excellent especially Luis in the aqua restaurant who catered for dietary needs and was very friendly and on the ball. Also thank you to Carmen the concierge who made our stay even more special by fulfilling an important request.

Not so good : very hit and miss with food orders that were slight changes from standard menu - most times got something wrong - except Luis! Also when you pointed out mistake it was not rectified until meal was finished : ie : ate a bowl of PLAIN vegetables on their own as finished meal when they finally came out ! Beach umbrellas are awful - they collapse in a slight breeze if they stay up at all !! They need replacing with ones that cost more than £2 !! Pool music is too loud and intrusive- loads of people have commented on this - sort it out! Golf buggies are not prompt when ordered - luckily we prefer to walk most times...

Overall would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone considering it...

Wonderful vacation

If you’re looking for a quiet , beautiful, relaxing adult vacation this is a gem. Rooms are large and well designed. The food is really outstanding: in a different league then any other all inclusive I’ve visited. A foodie will not be disappointed! The service was very personal. The servers are warm, friendly, and take obvious pride in their jobs. All were great. Leo was particularly helpful and took special care of the four of us: making uniquely good margaritas and table side dessert. Truely a special place. This is my second visit in a year. I will be back! Thanks for the phenomenal food and service.

Truly an Amazing Experience

We recently had our destination wedding at Blue Diamond and we were beyond amazed with every ounce of detail that went into everything! First of all, this resort is so unique as it is a small boutique resort and quickly wraps its arms around you and allows you to understand the meaning of true relaxation and peace! We looked at a lot of resorts prior to choosing Blue Diamond but none of them had the "feel" we were looking for. We wanted a unique experience for all of our guests. We wanted to find a resort that was unlike anything else and something very intimate and inviting. We had the privilege of touring this resort in August prior to deciding on it for our wedding venue, and it was very clear the experience and love felt as this resort is unlike anything else. The landscape is gorgeous, all of the rooms are very private and unique, the staff feels like family and they go above and beyond to make certain you are happy. Words can't explain the level of detail that goes on behind the scenes to make this resort truly amazing. All of our guests were beyond amazed and in fact, they want us to have our 1 year Anniversary here again as they all want to come back. We stayed 8 days, and most of our guests stayed 3-6 days. The staff quickly became friends and family and made everyone feel so special. Our wedding weekend far exceeded our expectations and that would not have been the case without everyone at the Blue Diamond. Javier did a phenomenal job working with each of our guests on their reservations. If anyone needed anything or had any questions he was always quick to reply and help out. Yadira was our amazing wedding planner and I honestly can't thank her enough for everything she did to make our entire week so beautiful and amazing. She was such a pleasure to work with and any idea we brought to her, she was willing to figure out and make it work. Although we we working on everything from a distance, she was extremely responsive with all communications which gave us peace of mind and confidence in her work immediately. The day of the wedding...I can't even put into words how amazing it was. Not once did she make us feel worried about anything. She took care of everything and allowed my husband and I to truly enjoy OUR day...and it was beyond perfect. Luis and Jose David both worked at the Aguamarine Restaurant and made us feel so special every time we sat down to eat. Their positive energy and smiles radiated making you feel so welcome. They too went above and beyond to make sure we had the right food, drinks...anything we wanted. Salvador was our main bartender at the pool area and the night of our wedding. We couldn't even keep up with the level of detail he showed us and our guests. He remembered what people were drinking and had it ready for them before they even arrived at the pool. If your drink was almost empty, he was right there with another for you before you could order one. Again, he made everyone feel beyond special and like family. His positive energy and contagious smile brightened everyone's experience. Some of our guests stayed in the Patio Jr Suites which weren't as close to the beach/pool area. The beauty about Blue Diamond is...they have golf carts that will pick you up and take you anywhere you need to go. Pedro was everyone's favorite as he was so friendly and always gave everyone a good laugh while in the golf cart. He too went above and beyond to make certain all of our guests got to and from safe. We were fortunate enough to have Butlers while we were there...what an experience that was. Samanya and Jorge were AMAZING! There wasn't anything they wouldn't get for us or figure out how to get. They checked on us frequently to make certain we had everything we needed. We did a last minute Happy Hour on the rooftop at our Beachfront Casita, and Jorge worked with the staff to have beers, champagne, and light snacks for us. We were beyond grateful for the level of attention they paid to us and our other guests who were fortunate enough to have them as well. One last "shout out" and that is to Carmen in the Concierge. She was so helpful for our guests who wanted to plan excursions, golf, etc. She did all of the connections for them to make it seamless and easy.

If you are looking for a unique, special, peaceful and beautiful experience...I highly suggest you stay here. We stayed 8 days and would have stayed longer...it was hard to leave! You will not be disappointed with the Blue Diamond and you will quickly understand why we love this place!quickly understand why we love this place!
