Sleek all-inclusive Caribbean retreat for adults on a white-sand Riviera Maya beach

The Lowdown

Soak up the sun in style at this sleek beachfront base in Akumal. A huge part of its appeal is its aesthetic, pairing traditional elements from around the Yucatán with contemporary lines and colors. But to focus on the fabulous design of its three pools, chic accommodations and glam common areas is to neglect the ways in which UNICO makes your stay feel—and not only look—amazing. Though you’ll spend plenty of time enjoying the diverse dining program that highlights local ingredients. A rotation of chefs heads up the dining program (including a former Top Chef Mexico contestant), to keep things fresh—expect a wide array of flavors and cuisines (everything from Mexican to Japanese) in addition to a cocktail lounge and cigar bar. The full-service spa is home to a fully equipped hydrotherapy facility and dispenses a host of luxurious wellness therapies, like a massage with volcanic stones and a facial designed specifically for sensitive skin, while the salon houses a barbershop with a beer-and-bourbon cart. An extensive fitness program invites you to enjoy a refreshing workout at the well-equipped gym, attend a beachfront class, or practice yoga or meditation. The real highlight, though, is the all-inclusive rate. You’ll receive all meals, pool and beach service, 24-hour room service, nightly events, select spa treatments and golfing tee times, among other things. And if that sounds like a lot to keep track of, you’ll also have a local host to do so for you. And to wash, iron and steam your clothes, so that you can dress as impeccably as your surroundings.

In the Area

You’ll likely spend most of your days lounging on the private beach or by one of the three pools, including the 20°87° pool, which features rafts and sets by a DJ. Head off-site to take a guided tour of a regional destination, like Chichen Itza, Garrafon Natural Reef Park, a cenote and the Mayan ruins at Coba and Tulum. You may set up a local golfing tee time, as well, or an outing to swim with wild dolphins. The resort is located just over 50 miles from Cancun International Airport and can be reached by car in about an hour.

Frist time "all inclusive" travelers. We can't even begin to describe the amazing experience we had at Unico. The property was amazing. A little overwhelming at first but you could ask any staff member and they are quick to help. We would like to especially thank Rodrigo and Mario from the 2087 bar for making some amazing drinks. We would go out of our way to go to the 2087 bar for drinks. Spent most of our time on the beach where Alberto never failed to keep our drink fresh and bellies full. We must recommend the shrimp taco's on the beach! After trying all the restaurants we decided Cueva 7 was the best. Although we had great service at all of the restaurants, Cueva 7 knocked it out of the park when it came to food and service. The first night we had Fernando and he was the best. He made great recommendations and even a few surprises! Grasshoppers anyone? For dessert he made us Mayan coffee, which is a must see! The next three times we went we had Raul as a server and he was amazing as well. So kind, everyone was so nice and accommodating. Zulda was a great host, not pushy, and very sweet.

Amazing piece of paradise

We are sadly enjoying our last morning at this gorgeous resort. Unico hits all the things we look forward to when researching a new place to stay.

BEAUTY the architecture, gardens, pools, beach, rooms, restaurants, public area ambiance are the best.

SERENITY is very present here. Beautiful water features, subtle fountains, flora, separate quiet pool and a beautiful uncrowded beach all did the trick to relax our souls.

HOSPITALITY is some of the best we've ever experienced! Everyone is genuine, and attentive to your every need. So kind at heart.

BEACH STAFF. We spent our time at the beach. Each day, the awesome staff created us with a big smile. They escorted us to the location of our choice, placed towels on our lounges, adjusted the umbrella to our satisfaction. An ice bucket with water bottles were placed on our tables. All of this was standard fare every day without request or room level status. Pure quality service.

FOOD was extremely good especially for an all inclusive resort. Fresh and local seemed to be the theme in all the restaurants. Even at the Hibachi Grille, there was a special pancake created with bacon, fresh vegetables, sauces and spices. Micky was so entertaining creating tasty guacamole tableside. The steak in the Italian restaurant, Mia Carisa was delicious and brought me back for another taste. This is also a GREAT BREAKFAST OPTION if you want to skip the buffet setting. It's the best kept secret on the resort. (The red berry crepes are awesome!)

BEVERIDGE service is top shelf in liquor selection, bartenders and waitstaff. The lobby bar has a sophisticated atmosphere where talented bartenders happily provide unique and traditional drinks flawlessly. Evening music was terrific!

SHOPPING in Artesanos is special. All beautiful local clothing, sculpture, crafts and more highlight the spirit of Mexican Heritage.

Although I can not remember all the names, I will always remember this amazing piece of paradise!

Muchas gracias, Juan, Rafael, Micky, Cesar and so many more.

Absolutely flawless!

Probably the best hotel, if not holiday I have ever experienced. Not only is the hotel stylish and beutiful throughout but the smooth running of the resort makes everything so easy and efficient all you need to do is relax.

The staff are wonderful and go above and beyond to make sure your happy and comfortable, the service they offer is truly impeccable and they really make this place special, handling and fixing any issues you may have!

There is more than enough to keep you happy, not to mention the privacy, the views, the wonderfully comfy and clean rooms (every single one has a balcony bathtub). There’s a colourful breakfast buffet and the 3 beautifully individual restaurants and stylish coffee shop, all of which offer booze and food of a fantastic high end standard. The quality is miles above any all inclusive expectations.

Mezcal Cocktails on the quiet beach, a super relaxing spa, delicious food and probably the best service and staff I have come across ever, make Unico 2087 a holiday we would recommend to anyone and will defiantly be returning ourselves! :)

Amazing resort. From the moment we stepped out of the car the service was excellent. We had an ocean view room on the 5th floor with amazing views. The room was clean and we'll appointed. The minibar and snack tray are well stocked, though liquor was by request only. the pool is beautiful. It was never too crowded when we were there. The pool food is as you'd expect, but the service is fantastic. The beach is not bad, but not the highlight of the resort as many reviews say. The water is crystal clear blue, but there is some seaweed (they rake it daily) and there are rocks close to shore. We did not spend much time at the beach anyways. We did 3 spa treatments in 5 days. The spa was great--ask for Celia! We did the dolphins swim (must do if you haven't) and cenotes adventure which was also incredible. The Mexican, Italian, and 2087 restaurants are very good for dinner. Highly recommend the steaks. The Asian restaurant was below average. The mixology at the bars and restaurants is also top notch. The taco shack near the pool is fantastic as well!Ximena and Luis are awesome. Amazing complex cocktails. Do note that this is a more low-key relaxed resort. There were plenty of activities for us, but it is by no means a party resort and the nightlife is pretty quiet which suit our needs well. Highly recommended!

Long overdue vacation for my wife and I an incredible experience from day one. We had not been away without kids in years this was even better than our honeymoon. We would not hesitate going back again.
