Soak up the sun in style at this sleek beachfront base in Akumal. A huge part of its appeal is its aesthetic, pairing traditional elements from around the Yucatán with contemporary lines and colors. But to focus on the fabulous design of its three pools, chic accommodations and glam common areas is to neglect the ways in which UNICO makes your stay feel—and not only look—amazing. Though you’ll spend plenty of time enjoying the diverse dining program that highlights local ingredients. A rotation of chefs heads up the dining program (including a former Top Chef Mexico contestant), to keep things fresh—expect a wide array of flavors and cuisines (everything from Mexican to Japanese) in addition to a cocktail lounge and cigar bar. The full-service spa is home to a fully equipped hydrotherapy facility and dispenses a host of luxurious wellness therapies, like a massage with volcanic stones and a facial designed specifically for sensitive skin, while the salon houses a barbershop with a beer-and-bourbon cart. An extensive fitness program invites you to enjoy a refreshing workout at the well-equipped gym, attend a beachfront class, or practice yoga or meditation. The real highlight, though, is the all-inclusive rate. You’ll receive all meals, pool and beach service, 24-hour room service, nightly events, select spa treatments and golfing tee times, among other things. And if that sounds like a lot to keep track of, you’ll also have a local host to do so for you. And to wash, iron and steam your clothes, so that you can dress as impeccably as your surroundings.
In the Area
You’ll likely spend most of your days lounging on the private beach or by one of the three pools, including the 20°87° pool, which features rafts and sets by a DJ. Head off-site to take a guided tour of a regional destination, like Chichen Itza, Garrafon Natural Reef Park, a cenote and the Mayan ruins at Coba and Tulum. You may set up a local golfing tee time, as well, or an outing to swim with wild dolphins. The resort is located just over 50 miles from Cancun International Airport and can be reached by car in about an hour.
How to Get There
We Traveled to Unico 2087 for our first trip to the Riviera Maya after talking it over with our Travel Agent. I found the hotel to be amazingly clean and the attention from the staff was fantastic, I would love to point out that Abram who works the pool was amazing, Alex our personal host also did everything from changing dinner reservations to setting up our Signature trip to the ruins in Tulum, also I wanted to give a huge shout out to one waiter who went above and beyond to make sure our drinks were cold and full and was always checking in on us, but i forget his name and i will surely review again to make sure he is recognized for his service. We will surely return soon!!!
We could party or relax quietly by the pool or on the beach. There’s a lot going on but you didn’t feel like you had to participate. The service was unparalleled and the food was truly yummy. Can’t wait to go back.
We traveled to Riveria Maya last week for a six-night trip at Unico. The staff at Unico was very pleasant and helpful. The property was beautiful, thoughtfully designed and clean. The food was fantastic and there was a ton of variety. We really enjoyed the breakfast treats and empanadas at 20 87 in the morning. Our favorite dinner was at Cueva Siete. When at Cueva Siete, make sure to get the Mayan coffee, super fun experience (and great coffee). The pools are awesome and the staff keeps the snacks and drinks coming. We went to the beach for a quick walk but didn't spend much time there. This area is being hit hard by the seaweed but they are doing a good job of keeping things clear. Unico helped us with two tours (Curated Tulum and Luxury Sailing out of Puerto Adventuras) which were organized and staffed well. Lastly, their spa is amazing. The hydrotherapy should not be missed. We would highly recommend folks go if they're looking to unplug and relax.
