Soak up the sun in style at this sleek beachfront base in Akumal. A huge part of its appeal is its aesthetic, pairing traditional elements from around the Yucatán with contemporary lines and colors. But to focus on the fabulous design of its three pools, chic accommodations and glam common areas is to neglect the ways in which UNICO makes your stay feel—and not only look—amazing. Though you’ll spend plenty of time enjoying the diverse dining program that highlights local ingredients. A rotation of chefs heads up the dining program (including a former Top Chef Mexico contestant), to keep things fresh—expect a wide array of flavors and cuisines (everything from Mexican to Japanese) in addition to a cocktail lounge and cigar bar. The full-service spa is home to a fully equipped hydrotherapy facility and dispenses a host of luxurious wellness therapies, like a massage with volcanic stones and a facial designed specifically for sensitive skin, while the salon houses a barbershop with a beer-and-bourbon cart. An extensive fitness program invites you to enjoy a refreshing workout at the well-equipped gym, attend a beachfront class, or practice yoga or meditation. The real highlight, though, is the all-inclusive rate. You’ll receive all meals, pool and beach service, 24-hour room service, nightly events, select spa treatments and golfing tee times, among other things. And if that sounds like a lot to keep track of, you’ll also have a local host to do so for you. And to wash, iron and steam your clothes, so that you can dress as impeccably as your surroundings.
In the Area
You’ll likely spend most of your days lounging on the private beach or by one of the three pools, including the 20°87° pool, which features rafts and sets by a DJ. Head off-site to take a guided tour of a regional destination, like Chichen Itza, Garrafon Natural Reef Park, a cenote and the Mayan ruins at Coba and Tulum. You may set up a local golfing tee time, as well, or an outing to swim with wild dolphins. The resort is located just over 50 miles from Cancun International Airport and can be reached by car in about an hour.
How to Get There
Just returned from this resort. Our benchmark is the Excellence and Iberostar. Valentin also surpasses this hotel. We have visited Mexico 7 plus times.
If this is your first all inclusive -adults only you will most probably love it.
FOOD-some of the best we’ve had. Book dinner BEFORE you go!! Or you will be annoyed. Really! use the app and do this NOW!
Lunch at taco bar and pool amazing.
Drinks-watered down here. This was the consensus of many we spoke to.
Spa hydrotherapy circuit. SKIP it here. Not worth it.
Spa desk-not friendly. Not organized!
**Massage-T Chavez. Excellent. **
Host-waste of time. Too many people involved in stay. Host, concierge etc. needs to be streamlined. You often find yourself puzzled on who does what.
App: works great. Room service. 👍🏻
Housekeeping : inconsistent but good when it happens. Rooms beautiful, clean.
Beds: we did not find them to be comfortable.
Hard and low.
Grounds immaculate -although I see wear that needs to be addressed. Missing pool fascia the spa needs a serious revamp in hydrotherapy area!
ZERO nighttime shows!:(. These are missed!!!
Disco starts too late and atmosphere not inviting.
No really inviting outdoor areas to enjoy the evenings. No beach bar. NO BEACH! Rocks and seaweed. So sad.
Overall staff not as friendly as previous mentioned hotels. Could be a language barrier issue.
Best pool server : Luis Torres. He was amazing. Hard worker ..ran, ran ran. ALL day long. Amazing!!!
Rodrigo also at pool /beach hard worker.
Pool concierge Armando good. Up and coming Tonny. Very good!
A big problem is this hotel is moving toward the time share -President’s Club and is catering to that crowd. Hotel is over ran with weddings , corporate events and time share.
It appears the special time share bracelets get the best service and attention.
At this price point -it’s not what we are looking for.
We still had an amazing time. Just a 100% honest review.
Another great place to visit in Mexico’s Riviera Maya. This resort has good amenities and excellent food. You can find your niche at one of the 3 pools, depending on whether you like it quiet or like to meet people. The drinks could be stronger, but at least people aren’t getting smashed and belligerent like some all-inclusives we’ve been to.
We had fantastic service all week. Special thanks to Cetlally, our housekeeper, Pasquale, our concierge and the team of people at the lobby bar (Marco Antonio, Justin, Marco Hernandez, Jose Angel, Estella and Najaida). They know how to have fun and make you feel comfortable. Hats off to the manager of that area who handled an out of control guest (not drunk just mean) very professionally. Christian, our pool server, worked hard all week to keep us happy, well-fed and hydrated!
The food was excellent all week. Our favorites were Mura House (best a la carte sushi and dinner and Mi Carisa (best filet and a la carte breakfast). Room service is great too and it’s 24/7!
The beach was full of seaweed, but that’s a problem all over the Caribbean right now. They try to keep up, but it’s almost impossible.
The only recommendation we have is that management should consider more lively music at the main pool and more live bands in the club at night.
Stayed here for 9 nights on our Honeymoon and it was brilliant. All 4 restaurants have amazing food. Our favourite was the Italian!!
Room was so nice and all the amenities that come with it are super helpful.
Our local Host Kristel couldn't have been more helpful and Aremondo around the pool was great.
We had a Spa treatment while we were there, the hydrotheropy pool was awesome, fully recommend this.
The staff are super helpful. We spent most of our time around the front pool, you have the option of a more lively pool or quieter pool also.
Cannot recommend this more :)
Worst vaca EVER!! Serve at UNICO 20/87 is with out a doubt the worst!! Don’t book here you’ll regret it. Don’t fall their hype and pictures. They are a fraud:( The beach is terrible and smells like rotting fish. The property looks weathered and worn and it’s only two years old! And I can’t say it loud enough the service was terrible.
Could not make reservations in restaurants but when walk by more
than half of the tables we EMPTY. Eating at other restaurants and watches them turned guests away! In the middle of spa mani/pedi I was told they couldn’t finish the pedicure all though every pedicure chair was empty! Went back by on the way back from the gym and still every chair was vacant but 6 staff members just standing around in the back of the spa! If I could give this resort a negative star rating...I WOULD! Terrible is the only word I can come up with😡 Please don’t make the same
mistake we did and waste 7 days here!
Beautiful and friendly resort that was very well maintained. Reservations for anything outside the spa was pretty much not needed and they were super accommodating. Could not have asked for a better stay. Was super surprised to have had a walk up pool on my ground level room.
My guy there was Pascual Araoz and he is amazing! Give that man a raise!
