How to Get There
Recently returned from a family trip to Akumal via our privilege club membership. As always the concierge and staff at the privilege club were above and beyond our expectations!
We were even offered a wonderful dinner on the beach at Tequila, our waiter Didier was wonderful and it was a lot of fun.
All of the staff at the Privilege lounge and beach were attentive and friendly. Our concierge Diego was very helpful and great with our teens.
Tried many restaurants during our stay, our favorite buffet was the main one in Akumal and thought our dinner at Dolce Vida was delicious.
My brother-in-law felt the air-conditioning was not adequate in his room but my husband and I didn't have an issue. It's hot and humid weather so the room often had a dampness to it but no odor.
Our one complaint was with the gray water sprinklers. They were active near our buildings during early afternoon, at times the smell could be overwhelming. But, the landscaping was immaculate!
We have stayed at Sian kaan, Tulum and Akumal- each has it's forte but we enjoyed them all!
This was our 7th stay at this hotel which says a lot itself as we very rarely return to the same hotel. First of all I would like to comment on the shooting incident on the beach, wishing the lifeguard a speedy recover. A lot have people have said very negative comments however our tour operator who notified us of a measles incident did not get in touch regarding this so this would indicate their thoughts on the level of risk to tourists. The beach is Federal property and is policed also the hotel has excellent security and I would say we feel completely safe here and there was no need to move elsewhere.
We travelled with our daughter and family which included our two young granddaughters. We had a fabulous time for our two weeks staying in 4801 & 4802. The staff are wonderful and work very hard always with a smile. We were happy to see our old friend Armin in Akumal restaurant and Edgar made lovely little characters for our 4 year old, nice touch. Ana also made sure we were accommodated and looked after us all. We caught couple of the shows a night but the Variety show on a Monday was the best of all. We didn't go to the Fiesta this time, too late for the little ones, however I would recommend as we have been before at it is an excellent show. The gourmet restaurants were excellent as usual and we would recommend Don Pablo Le Gourmet, Portifino and Grand Tourtoga. The coast is getting hit with sargassum seaweed however the work tirelessly to remove this and on Akumal beach this wasn't too much of a problem. Everywhere is kept lovely and clean and the gardens are well maintained. We didn't use the butler service so can't comment on this. The Hacienda is handy for any souvenirs and the chemist there is really good should you need anything. I highly recommend this hotel and we are already planning our next visit.
Bahia Principe Akumal
My wife and I stayed for a week for our honeymoon and the entertainment staff was amazing! They did a great job of getting everyone involved in the activities and shows! Angel, Luis, Luna and Memo and many others did a great job and are always making sure you’re feeling welcome.
We did have a few problems during our stay though:
We went to dinner at the Italian restaurant, Dolche Vida and we informed our server that we were on our honeymoon and he really pressed us to buy a bottle of wine. Once we declined, he sent over his manager or wine guy to assist. He was like a used car salesmen trying to get us to buy a bottle. So finally we bought a bottle and enjoyed it. At the end of the meal he pressed us to buy another one and that he could have it sent to our room with some chocolate covered strawberries. We got back to our room later that night and nothing was there. Then they tried to bring it to our room at 5pm the following day. I told them to take it to Don Pablo’s at Tulum. When we got to Pablo’s for dinner the staff there seemed very annoyed that we had the bottle brought over from the other restaurant. The restaurant (Pablo’s) even wrote “Happy Anniversary” on our desert cake. Not sure what the deal was but it was a big mess.
My wife and I had a scheduled ride with AMSTAR at 11:40am to take us to the airport to fly back home at 4:25pm. We called the front desk to have our bags picked up from our room and brought to the front at 11:15am because we were on the opposite end of the resort. We showed up in the lobby at 11:30am and checked out and The bell boys never went to get our bags and our Amstar ride left us because he was running late. Our driver even waited 15 minutes passed our scheduled pickup time and our bags still were not there. The representative for Amstar even tried to call us a “rescue” ride but nothing was available. We talked to the hotel manager and were upset that we missed our ride because the baggage people did not have our bags ready for us and we got stuck with a $100 cab to the airport. They would not compensate us for the cab even though they were the reason we missed our scheduled ride through Amstar.
Just returned from Mexico after a 2nd visit and have to say this hotel was by far the best. If you pay that little bit extra for this hotel you gain access to 3 other hotels which includes all their la carte restaurants. You get a total of 10 visits to the restaurants so more or less your full holiday. The food is out of this world. We took my disabled father who cannot walk far, no need to!!!! the what I call put puts were there and even a personal butler picked him up to take him to the restaurants AND came back and stood outside the hotel waiting for him. The beach is amazing and you get access to the private beach which are guarded and the sea is clear as the men are constantly on there clearing any seaweed. The only downfall for me was the rooms in terms of the bathroom were a little dated i.e. shower in the bath and the entertainment was not as grand as when we previously stayed at a nearby hotel. However would not deter me from returning to this hotel purely for the way they treat you and the sheer luxury of the place.
We have just returned from another wonderful 2 week holiday at this resort, this is our 2nd stay. Prior to arrival we emailed our request for room requirements and a specific block, we were very pleased as they accommodated our requests, room was lovely and cleaned daily with minibar restocked.
Food again excellent, we mainly ate at the buffet restaurant as we travelled with our 2 children and it just worked out best, plus there was plenty of choice! We did go to the japanese at coba and the dolci vita which were both lovely meals, show cooking table at japanese is a must! We also had room service on a few occassions which was prompt!
Pools wonderful, choice of lively and quiet as well, as the waterpark at the coba which the kids loved. Beach is great, ideal when you have kids as its a safe shallow and lots of fish to see, seaweed is variable but the staff clearing it do a marvalous job and work tiredlessly to clear it. Further along the beach it seemed to be worse which did effect the watersports but unfortunately this is no fault of the hotel, just mother nature.
Entertainment day and night very good although one thing which was better last year was the weekly evening show programme, we did enjoy the shows but when you are there for 2 weeks it would be good to have a different show programme for the 2nd week. This did not change throughout our stay but did last year which was definately better, minor point and didnt stop us enjoying our holiday. Not sure of the shows at the other hotels as we didnt venture from our hotel on an evening for the show as our youngest would fall asleep at some point! Our children enjoyed the kids discos prior to the shows.
We found all staff friendly and very helpful, we would recommend this hotel as we had a brilliant holiday yet again.
