Overview

Victorian manor turned boutique hotel in the heart of Newport's Historic District

The Lowdown

A B&B for the smart set, this teensy Newport hotel has just seven rooms and the kind of intimate, personalized service that makes guests return again and again. With a central location, it’s a good spot for anyone in town for a festival or a summer holiday, although with most rooms designed for couples this is a better place for a romantic getaway than it is for a family vacation. The impeccably clean rooms were recently refreshed (and have none of the chintzy décor of a traditional B&B), so the hotel has a brand-new feel that belies its Victorian roots. Breakfast is a particular highlight, with guests raving about the baked goods and specialty coffee. Rooms are set up to enhance comfort: turn on the gas fireplace in the chilly evenings and cozy up with a bottle of champagne; or hop in the Jacuzzi tub and grab the Gilchrist & Soames products for an in-room spa experience.

In the Area

The Inn’s location, on a quiet street within walking distance of excellent restaurants and the town’s major landmarks including its sweeping and historic Gilded Mansions on Bellevue, is hard to beat. In good weather, a walk along the cliffs reveals the beauty of the shoreline; in bad weather, take yourself out for a seafood lunch at the Lobster Bar, where harbor views are fabulous even when it rains. The White Horse Tavern makes an elegant dinner spot—the building dates back to the 17th century but the menu of local fish, Rhode Island artisan cheeses, and cornmeal-crusted oysters is modern and ambitious. Newport also hosts a slew of interesting festivals each year. Check the calendar for dates for the Jazz and Folk Festivals, the Food and Wine Festival, and the Newport Boat Show.

I am very particular with overnight accommodations, and the Bayberry Inn did not disappoint!! Honestly, we loved this amazing B&B!! The Bayberry was super cute, clean, and accommodating! I have a severe gluten allergy and the owners, and staff were VERY knowledgable and HAPPY to accommodate my dietary needs. The Bayberry Inn went above and beyond our expectations, and we would definitely return in the future. The inn was also within walking distance to the cute shopping/dining harbor area. We highly recommend a stay the Bayberry Inn!!

We stayed here for a weekend away in Newport. House is historic, very nice, clean and comfortable. Staff is amazing and very friendly. Location was great for walking to the town center shops and restaurants. Breakfast was very good and made to order. Great spot - we will definitely be back.

Relaxing Stay

We had an amazing experience at the Bayberry. Nate the Inn Keeper was welcoming and provided us with everything we needed from the perfect room to dinner reservations and a great breakfast the next morning. Our room was perfect with a fireplace and jacuzzi tub. Just what we needed for a quick relaxing get away. We can not wait to return.

Stylish

We loved this place. It is very tastefully decorated mixing traditional features and modern amenities very successfully. Very comfortable bed and modern bathroom. The owners are welcoming, friendly and helpful. It is well located and has on site parking. Outside is a lovely garden with a fire pit for sitting outside in the evening. Breakfast is provided but apart from a few bits there is not a choice. The host cooks something different each day. We enjoyed the eggs benedict but couldn't stomach the quinoa with poached egg on our second morning! A bit of a choice would be an improvement.
Overall I would definitely recommend this place to stay in Newport. Excellent.
