Nautical seaside spot with Cali cuisine, eco cred and sea lion mascots on a marina in Redondo Beach
The Portofino Hotel & Marina, A Noble House Hotel’s nautical atmosphere is no affectation. The 161-room hotel sits on a peninsula between the Pacific and a 181-slip marina, and sailing is the preferred means of arrival for some guests. Though yacht club may conjure some stuffy images, this charming seaside spot is anything but with cool breezes and warm vibes that attract a diverse crowd, from families to pro surfers to CEOs grabbing a quick getaway.

The navy and sunny yellow color schemes complement the water views through floor-to-ceiling windows and from private patios/balconies. The Portofino’s exercise room is a tad small, but your fitness needs can be met SoCal-style, with a swim in the heated oceanfront pool, some kayaking in the harbor or surfing Redondo Beach’s choice waves. The hotel also provides free bike rentals for enjoying the 27-mile beachfront path on which it sits.
In the Area
Though only 40 minutes from downtown LA, Portofino’s marina locale — surrounded by sailboats, sea lions, beaches and boardwalks — could hardly be more relaxing. A 10-minute walk brings you to Redondo, a quaint village with one of Southern California’s best beaches and a family-friendly boardwalk. On a clear day you can see Catalina Express. Beginning just north of Redondo Beach, the Strand is a paved, car-free path that runs alongside the beach and is popular with joggers, bicyclists and skateboarders. The Portofino’s free beach cruisers are ideal for the ride. The sand dunes of
