How to Get There
I've visited Isla Mujeres a number of times, stayed at various hotels, and for the money and location, I've found the Rocamar to be an excellent choice. For first-timers to Isla, Playa Norte is the best beach by far, one of the best in the world actually, and the downtown is quaint and filled with restaurants and shops. The Rocamar is walking distance to both Playa Norte and the small downtown but remains quiet which is a huge plus and hotels right in the downtown area are noisy with bar-hoppers and not recommended. Rocamar is located on the edge of town facing the east side of the ocean so the sea is a bit rougher but allows for amazing sunrises from your bedroom. The rooms aren't fancy, quite plain actually, but for the price, they're actually a pretty good value. I didn't visit Isla to hang out in my room anyways and the bed was fine and view of the ocean, spectacular. The shower was good and the AC was excellent as well. I've also had the staff organize golf cart rentals for me on a number of occasions and the price was a bit lower than you'd find on your own near the port and which was a plus. Overall I really like the Rocamar, I've stayed here about four times and would recommend it to the budget conscious traveler who wants to be near the action but not right in the center of it and who also desires a beautiful ocean view. Get a room on the 2nd or 3rd floor if possible, the main floor rooms are right next to a well travelled walking path, noise and safety are both issues if you end up on the main floor, you don't want someone climbing in your hotel room via the sliding door if you stay at ground level. All in all, a really nice place, I'd visit again in a heart-beat!
Nice hôtel and nice bedroom if they decide to give you what you paid for ...
We booked a bedroom with sea view ( you have to pay the "option" ) and finaly once on place, they didn't give us this kind of bedroom AT ALL ! We needed to go to the desk and scream about that !!
Finaly we had what we paid for and it wasn't because the hotel was full ( we visited 3 differents bedrooms ) .... They just "try to fu.... you" and if you say nothing you loose ....
After that everything was perfect, nice localisation close to playa Norte and sera view where you'll be able the sunrise 😍
AVOID THIS PLACE!!
The staff who welcomed us was rude and unpleasant. The first room we got was not cleaned (dirty toilet paper, empty beer bottles).
The second room had some issues too, broken A/C, no shower jet and was dirty as well.
When we asked to fix this for us they said it's the second room we got and if we don't like it we should cancel the reservation and leave (it was around 9 pm).
We stayed the night with no shower and left in the morning.
AVOID THIS PLACE.
Thanks to several TA members that have stayed multiple times over the years and posted about it, I was able to enjoy 5 days at this great hotel. I had room 24 on the top floor with a great view. Communication via email before arrival was a challenge, but staff was friendlier than expected. Rooms are big with a balcony almost over the water. Sitting in the hammock listening to the waves was heavenly. Lobby sitting area has WiFi, microwave, tv, hot and cold water dispenser, comfortable couches and book exchange. Coffee pot and small fridge in room. Wish the WiFi would extend to the pool area bc it’s hot with no breeze in the lobby area. I travelled solo and felt safe in the hotel and walking around centro. Will stay here again.
We stayed here for 2 weeks when we arrived after a long journey we didn’t even get a hello just asked for surname
Beautiful location and you can hear the waves crashing against the hotel as you sleep very relaxing ! Really close to many restaurants bars and beach
We had the pool to ourselves on days we stayed by pool but found the pool and area wasn’t cleaned regularly lots of floating insects and tables not wiped down
We never got to know the staff in the 2 weeks of our stay and really found them unfriendly and unhelpful
The only time I asked for pool to be cleaned I got grunted at and told I will check it also we returned one evening to hear all the staff in one of the rooms watching tv with the door open
We noticed a difference in the staff and how hard they worked when the manager was there !
This hotel has so much potential so beautifully located and clean I found it sad as staff really let us and the owner down I’d love to come back to the island but I wouldn’t stay here again unless they change their staff !
