Flanked by 123 acres of tropical foliage, the two-story Isla Mujeres Palace combines a casual attitude with contemporary design on the west side of the island. Through a perimeter of windows and an atrium-like ceiling, light fills the round lobby, highlighting its sandy marble floors and colonial white columns. Breezy hallways run throughout the property, connecting interior terraces to the guestrooms, and the lobby to the alfresco restaurant. Closer to the water, hat-shaped thatch roofs and a curtain of palm trees separating the pool and the beach create a rustic vibe.
Bed and Bath
A muted beach decor of soft pastels and plain tiled floors complement Caribbean views from the 62 rooms and suites. All rooms are spacious and have kingsize beds that face walls adorned with Mayan art and flat-screen TVs. Full or partial ocean views are available from most rooms, and central to each is an island for a double Jacuzzi tub and marble sinks, fringed by inlaid stone. For designer L’Occitane bath products, along with other liberal add-ons like two free massages and nightly petit fours, upgrade to the Concierge Level rooms.
Although the resort is short on dining options, Azul works around the clock to serve Caribbean and Mediterranean dishes, which you can enjoy from the restaurant’s terrace, in your room or on the beach. The petite beauty salon and spa menu includes basic manis and pedis and such sensual options as the hot stone couples massages. Indulgence carries over to the lobby and swim-up bar, where tropical drinks are served. Just beyond, beach loungers and palapas line a sedate stretch of sand. Grab a snorkeling mask and jump right into the ocean from one of the resort’s wooden piers, or have the concierge arrange a boat to take you for an off-site scuba dive.
How to Get There
We have just returned from 12 nights at the Isla Mujeres Palace and had a wonderful holiday. After a long tiring journey we were greeted with ice cold cloths & a refreshing drink which were most welcome. After a quick check in we were shown to our room. The rooms are large with the comfiest of beds and ours was kept very clean for the duration of our stay and the in room mini bar was restocked every day.The housekeeping team and mini bar service was very efficient.
We were very impressed with the food at the hotel. Breakfast was buffet style but the order for the eggs etc was taken at our table. We liked to sit outside with the lovely beach & sea just feet away it was so peaceful and relaxing. The breakfast team were very friendly and organized and it was a good way to start the day with their smiling faces and prompt service and we must mention Mitzi ,Juan Pedro G & Paolo who looked after us so well each morning. Lunch can be taken at the pool bar which serves a variety of Mexican and American food (burger, tacos pizzas etc), the a la carte main restaurant (Azul) or the Cervicheria. We must thank Macedonio who guided us through the menu at the Cervicheria on our first visit and crispy shrimp soon became a favourite!! Macedonio also looked after us on the beach bringing drinks to our sunbed and we enjoyed our chats and nothing was too much trouble for him. The evening meal is served in Azul and it made a pleasant change to have a la carte instead of the usual buffet concept. The meals are of a very high standard and are beautifully presented. Again the staff were very friendly and efficient. Plates are taken away promptly when finished. Thanks to Mateo who even remembered our favourite drinks. Room service is included and always another option although we did not have this ourselves.
The evenings are quiet but this is what suited us-a few drinks after a lovely meal.
A special mention must go to Alejandra the guest relations manager who is committed to her role and is dedicated to her guests. She looked for us each evening to make sure that our holiday was going well and to see if there was anything she could do-customer service at its very best.
The majority of our time was spent in the hotel enjoying the beach it was so good to have sunbeds available any time of the day with no towels reserving them. Even though our preference was the beach the pool was a nice area too again with plenty of sunbeds. We did hire a golf cart to tour the island which was good fun and took taxis to Punta Sur and Playe Norte. You can really do as much or as little as you wish on the island.
If you want a relaxing holiday with excellent food and service this is the place for you. We really do hope to return next year and a BIG Thank You to everyone at Isla Mujeres Palace you are a wonderful team.
First I would like to start by thanking Deiby from the front desk for being outstanding!
My wife and I traveled to Isla mujeres for an early anniversary getaway and we have always wanted to spend a week on Isla mujeres. We have travel to Cancun several times and this time wanted something a little bit slower paced. Everyone we came in contact with at the resort especially Mauricio from the pool bar,Juan, Pedro and Macedonio were all so excellent with their customer service and willingness to pamper us for the entire week. The resort was a little bit older but meticulously maintained and made our stay so amazing. The food for every meal was delicious and 24 hour room service available. We took a golf cart to playa Norte one of the days and the beach there was incredible.I would highly recommend ISLA MUJERES PALACE for any couples trying to get away from the rat race and nightlife scene . Thank you again to everyone at Isla mujeres palace for making our stay so memorable
Every time we return to the Palace it is better than the last. Our fourth time staying here was the best so far. We saw a big improvement in the menu. No more buffets. The lunch and dinner menu featured a lot more specialties from the Yucatan (which were all fantastic) and the pool snack bar menu featured new vegetarian and vegan options. The entire staff is always smiling and friendly. The rooms are spacious and the housekeeping staff does a great job every day. We would like to thank Cecelia for a big smile as we passed her in the hall when she was taking care of the rooms as we made our way to the pool every morning. The pool area is quiet and the perfect place to unwind and relax for as long as you want.
The staff at the Palace is what really makes us come back every year. From the time we arrived old friends were there to welcome us back. We would especially like to thank Alejandro for the great conservations and best bloody mary, Dario for his great sense of humor, Edy for his creative bar skills and Johnny for always remembering what our usual was.
Other staff members stand out as well. Wilma brought our coffee and pastry every day on time and with a beautiful smile. We would like to thank Ismael for showing the true meaning of island hospitality. He works hard whether by the pool or filling in as bartender. Arturo, the head waiter was courteous and professional and did an excellent job with the Mayan coffee and bananas flambe. Martin is a great chef by the pool. I wanted to eat there every day. At breakfast Macedonio ran the morning breakfast smoothly and Pedro P. was always willing to go over and above to get whatever you wanted. We would like to thank Julian for his great wine recommendations.
Others that deserve mention are Rigobierto for always helping with taxis. Alvaro the capitan for being around day and night (haha). The hostess Mitzi for always remembering where we liked to sit. Martha at the front desk to answer any questions and address any problems. Boris and the entertainment staff for the activities and personal bike ride around the island and Pilar for helping us explain the resort credits.
The entire staff is excellent. The supporting staff of waiters were also great. They include Christian (or is that Ismael?) Moises, Iran, Joel, Juan, Victor, Luis, Paolo, Pedro G and Mauricio. We hope we didn’t forget anyone. Everyone is special.
We were happy to see old friends and make some new friends this year. The Palace is another home to us where we are always treated like family.
We have just returned from a two week stay at the Isla Mujeres Palace resort. It was a very relaxing stay. We had an excellent time at this well run, friendly hotel.
The hotel is in a great location with a lovely fairly small beach with white sand. The hotel was not full during our stay and we generally had exceptional service from the staff. All the staff were very friendly and willing to help. There was always plenty of room and plenty of sunbeds by the pool and on the beach. The room we stayed in was large and we had a reasonable view. The hotel was clean and very well maintained.
The sunsets were superb !
The food was excellent. There was only one restaurant open in the evening but we felt there was plenty of choice. It was al-la-carte for all meals which was great. The chefs (David and his team) obviously were taking a pride in their work and produced some interesting & lovely meals.
The hotel had a boutique like feel to it, as it’s quite small, and while we were there, it was not full.
There was a large Jacuzzi bath in our room which was a complete waste of space.
The wardrobe was too small.
There was lots of seaweed on the beach and lots of dead seaweed in the sea. We mentioned this to the managers and this did improve quite a lot during our stay but still needs to be resolved. I’ve heard it said that “generally hotels here are fighting a losing battle against seaweed, and it’s hard to keep cleaning it up”. However, they clean the restaurant 3 times a day when it gets messy ! – so why not the dead seaweed ? Although it would take effort every day to clean up the dead seaweed, we feel this would definitely be worth it for the hotel, and then it would be an even better hotel and beach.
Noise from the day trippers coming to the water park next door was quite loud at the weekends, but other times it was fine and did not trouble us much.
We did the day trip to Chichen Itza which was fantastic to see. We knew it would be a very long day and it was, which we accepted because of getting from, and back to, this island. However, for our tour, and we were told always, the Palace hotel group take everyone to the Moon Palace hotel, and then the tour effectively starts from there. This may work for people staying at or near Moon Palace, but from this hotel, the journey time was unnecessarily far too long, just to join the Palace hotels tour. Having been taken (as part of our day trip) to Moon palace hotel, we then had to wait 50 minutes at Moon Palace before the coach left (no-one was able to advise us how long it would be, so we had to sit on the coach waiting in a car park). The logistics of this tour were very badly organised. We commented to the hotel that in our view, it would be much better for people staying at this hotel, if the hotel offered a tour to Chichen Itza, which assembled & started much nearer to Puerto Juarez, rather than from Moon Palace. Despite us describing what we wanted when we booked the tour, at the tour desk in this hotel, that option was not available to us.
The staff were really excellent at this hotel.
Antonio, who ran the restaurant was amazing. He worked incredibly hard and was passionate about his work and the people who worked for him, he is a great credit to this hotel. Alexandra, PR, was always walking around talking to guests and made sure we were happy and satisfied. Roxana, Reception Manager, was excellent when we had an issue with our room and resolved our concern quickly.
Other people in the restaurant /hotel who were always very helpful and cheerful were:
Pedro, Paulo, Macadonio, Julien, Luis, Arturio, Mateo, Mauriniho.
Antonio the lifeguard was always working very hard on the beach.
Overall, the hotel was excellent, and we would go back again.
