Intimate resort with a beachfront pool on Isla Mujeres, Cancún’s sedate satellite island with scuba-friendly waters

The Look

Flanked by 123 acres of tropical foliage, the two-story Isla Mujeres Palace combines a casual attitude with contemporary design on the west side of the island. Through a perimeter of windows and an atrium-like ceiling, light fills the round lobby, highlighting its sandy marble floors and colonial white columns. Breezy hallways run throughout the property, connecting interior terraces to the guestrooms, and the lobby to the alfresco restaurant. Closer to the water, hat-shaped thatch roofs and a curtain of palm trees separating the pool and the beach create a rustic vibe.

Bed and Bath

A muted beach decor of soft pastels and plain tiled floors complement Caribbean views from the 62 rooms and suites. All rooms are spacious and have kingsize beds that face walls adorned with Mayan art and flat-screen TVs. Full or partial ocean views are available from most rooms, and central to each is an island for a double Jacuzzi tub and marble sinks, fringed by inlaid stone. For designer L’Occitane bath products, along with other liberal add-ons like two free massages and nightly petit fours, upgrade to the Concierge Level rooms.

Although the resort is short on dining options, Azul works around the clock to serve Caribbean and Mediterranean dishes, which you can enjoy from the restaurant’s terrace, in your room or on the beach. The petite beauty salon and spa menu includes basic manis and pedis and such sensual options as the hot stone couples massages. Indulgence carries over to the lobby and swim-up bar, where tropical drinks are served. Just beyond, beach loungers and palapas line a sedate stretch of sand. Grab a snorkeling mask and jump right into the ocean from one of the resort’s wooden piers, or have the concierge arrange a boat to take you for an off-site scuba dive.

If you’re looking for relaxation and a quiet place to stay this is the place for you!

The resort is beautiful, less than 70 rooms, very charming and quaint and modern. The staff is very accommodating and very friendly. It’s very quiet here so if you’re looking for nightlife this is not the place nor the island. I’m giving this a 3 star basically for the beach, or lack there of. My favorite thing to do when I go to Mexico is walk the beach for an hour or longer for my exercise. On this island you cannot do that most of the beaches you have to pay to hang out there and it’s a very small beach mind you. The island is very family oriented which is very charming and I did love that because I felt extremely safe. The food at the resort was good but you’re limited to the main restaurant. you can eat at a little seafood beach bar but other than that that’s it. Next time I go there I would just do a day trip and not stay a week.

Birthday celebration

Fabulous time. Loved it so much we joined the Palace Family and will be back in May. The Palace is such an intimate setting you will not want to go home. Everyone gets to know you and makes special effort make your stay truly amazing. We made new friends from all over. The rooms are great, the food is yummy and make sure you use your resort credits and explore the island. We explored the island and had a blast. Garaffon, Punta Sur, The Soggy Peso, Skulls Landing, the Joint are fabulous places to check out.

A huge thank you to the Staff: Macedonlo, Roklo, Joel and Luis all made us feel Special. Also the guy at the water sports area was awesome. I paddle boarded everyday. On the first day he gave me his Croakies to use so I wouldn’t lose my sun glasses.

My birthday was the best celebration anyone could ask for. So glad I spent it at the Palace.

Perfect wedding and honeymoon!

We just got home from our week long wedding/honeymoon trip and once again Palace outdid themselves. From the little special touches to welcome us to Alejandra going above and beyond to fufill our every wish it was truly a special experience. We love Isla Mujeres Palace and this was our 5th trip here but this time it was also for our wedding so it was extra special and the staff did not disappoint! I will try to rattle off some shout outs but I am sure I will miss a few so please forgive me. As mentioned before, Alejandra gave us special attention from the moment we arrived and she personally decorated our room with rose petals and drew a wonderful bubble bath for us not once but twice! (I interrupted her secret mission the first time so she did it again as a surprise) Dario, Eddie, Jhonny, Alejandro & Ishmael made our time at the lobby bar and pool bar fun as always. Christian & Pedro went out of their way with dinner and lunch service. The chef's dinner was amazing and Walter at La Cevieche served up excellent food as well. Alberto adjusted his pool activities when we requested "lazy games" since we had no desire to do much more than float around the pool sipping drinks. I know I am forgetting many of the wonderful staff that make it a point to welcome us to our home away from home each time we visit but each and every one of them deserve some recognition for the outstanding service they ALWAYS provide. Until next time...

laid back resort with a wonderful friendly and professional staff. This is our favorite destination in all of Mexico. Beautiful views, wonderful food, great entertainment, yes, but almost any quality resort can provide that. At the Isla Mujeres Palace Resort the staff is what separates it from the others. Genuine hospitality and a work ethic that is impressive indeed. From the bellman at checkin, to the front desk, to the room cleaners and wait staff ALL do their very best to make your stay one that allows you to relax, reflect and reconnect. The best!

Paradise on earth

Words cannot truly describe just how fabulous this Palace Resort Hotel is. My wife and I have holidayed at The Moon Palace Resort, Cancun on three occasions and during our last vacation there, we visited Isla Mujeres on a day trip. Discovering the Palace Resort on the island, we had lunch there and overwhelmed by the attentive service, beautiful location and tranquility, vowed to return as soon as we could. The opportunity came quicker than anticipated and we arrived at the end of Aug 18. We would thoroughly recommend arranging the private transfer from the marina to the hotel on their catamaran - this was arranged directly with the hotel and it is worth noting that it doesn’t run on Wednesday. From the moment we arrived we were treated to the most fantastic service we have ever experienced. We took the option to upgrade from a garden view to a pool view room (we could also see the sea from our balcony), this was well worth the extra. Throughout our stay we were brilliantly looked after by all the staff but particular mention must go to Julian and Paolo. We took breakfast every morning looking out over the sea from the veranda and were looked after by Wilma and Edelmira. All of the meals are al a carte, from breakfast to dinner and although the menu remained the same the range was extensive enough to enable us to vary our choices. The addition of the different ‘specials menu’ each evening for dinner added to the choice. We must also mention the room service which has an extensive menu and is delivered within 10-15 minutes. Both my wife and I used the Spa facility and were looked after by Xochiff, Natividad and Daynela - we used the facility twice during our stay and were blown away by the attentive service. I also did some snorkelling arranged by the hotel which was great, but the best of all was the Discover Scuba trip which was fantastic - my first attempt at scuba diving and something I thoroughly enjoyed, this was down the the excellent training and support from Martine and his crew - I even saw a shark! We can’t recommend this hotel highly enough and are planning to return next summer for another taste of paradise.
