Intimate resort with a beachfront pool on Isla Mujeres, Cancún’s sedate satellite island with scuba-friendly waters

The Look

Flanked by 123 acres of tropical foliage, the two-story Isla Mujeres Palace combines a casual attitude with contemporary design on the west side of the island. Through a perimeter of windows and an atrium-like ceiling, light fills the round lobby, highlighting its sandy marble floors and colonial white columns. Breezy hallways run throughout the property, connecting interior terraces to the guestrooms, and the lobby to the alfresco restaurant. Closer to the water, hat-shaped thatch roofs and a curtain of palm trees separating the pool and the beach create a rustic vibe.

Bed and Bath

A muted beach decor of soft pastels and plain tiled floors complement Caribbean views from the 62 rooms and suites. All rooms are spacious and have kingsize beds that face walls adorned with Mayan art and flat-screen TVs. Full or partial ocean views are available from most rooms, and central to each is an island for a double Jacuzzi tub and marble sinks, fringed by inlaid stone. For designer L’Occitane bath products, along with other liberal add-ons like two free massages and nightly petit fours, upgrade to the Concierge Level rooms.

Although the resort is short on dining options, Azul works around the clock to serve Caribbean and Mediterranean dishes, which you can enjoy from the restaurant’s terrace, in your room or on the beach. The petite beauty salon and spa menu includes basic manis and pedis and such sensual options as the hot stone couples massages. Indulgence carries over to the lobby and swim-up bar, where tropical drinks are served. Just beyond, beach loungers and palapas line a sedate stretch of sand. Grab a snorkeling mask and jump right into the ocean from one of the resort’s wooden piers, or have the concierge arrange a boat to take you for an off-site scuba dive.

What an AMAZING time we had this week! This hotel is the closest thing to perfection we have come across (and we travel A LOT!)! First of all, the location on the island is perfect, far enough away from town, but close enough for a short taxi ride! The service here is unparalleled, we are in the service industry and when we travel, we expect decent service, the service here is AMAZING! The hotel is small, 60 something rooms, and I bet it was only 1/2 full when we were there. Our weather was perfect, the beach is GREAT, the grounds are very clean, the rooms are clean and spacious! Let me mention a few people that made our vacation truly memorable: Starting with the front desk, David, Rosa and Debi were very helpful and made check in and check out very easy, Riggoberto the bellman is very helpful too. Upon check out, he even remembered our dogs name, it was very sweet! Juan, Luis, Joel, and Macedonia at breakfast were very attentive, we never had to carry our plates anywhere or ask for anything. Aldo at the cevicheria is fantastic (do yourself a favor and eat lunch there EVERYDAY!), Antonio at the beach hut was great too, he gave us wristbands so we could kayak outside the little area and it was SO FUN! We kayaked down to a little bar on the beach and had drinks and the most amazing fish meal of our entire lives (go to Playa Tiburon, get the king mackerel dinner to share!!!) highly recommend doing it! Alberto at the pool is so FUN! He took us on a great bike ride/tour and kept things fun around the pool all week (we are still laughing about him wearing the football gear around on Super Bowl Sunday!)! Our favorite waiter for dinner was Julian, he anticipated our needs and remembered our drinks every night, If you go, please ask to meet him, he was really wonderful and hopefully we made a life long friend! All in all, this hotel is AMAZING! If I had to say one bad thing, it would be that the dinners get a little repetitive and it's VERY quiet at night. There is only one restaurant for dinner and although they have different specials every night, you will get bored. BUT...its SOOOO easy and safe to go into town and there are plenty of fantastic restaurants in town too! Take a day and rent a golf cart and tour the town, the North Beach is beautiful and worth a trip! Lots of great beach clubs and restaurants.

I was so impressed! This place is paradise. The hotel is beautiful, airy, and clean. The room was beautiful. The restaurant areas were gorgeous, the pool area was amazing, the beaches were stunning. The water is the most beautiful blue I have ever seen. We had amazing 80 degree weather in February with a perfect breeze for enjoying the sunshine and just soaking in the relaxation.
At all times at this resort I felt completely taken care of by the staff. Everyone here is so kind and attentive and really do a great job of making guests feel special.
The food was delicious and I felt there was plenty to choose from to keep it new each day. You can get breakfast to order or choose from a delicious buffet and the BEST coffee, lunch by the pool with freshly made guacamole and ice cream for dessert, or ceviche and a drink by the beach, and dinner had plenty to choose from along with nightly specials. We did venture out into town to also enjoy some local flavors. Everything on Isla Mujeres was delicious.
What a wonderful time spent on your beautiful island. Thank you for a relaxing and lovely visit in the sunshine! :)

Heaven On Earth

I do not want to overreact but this place is just TOO MUCH. I, as a frequent travel, am always looking for rooms for improvement, it comes natural. Well, I couldn’t find anything in this hotel. PERFECT EXPERIENCE!!
I LOVE Isla Mujeres and I stayed in this hotel a few years ago, it was already good but now is what the title of my review states: HEAVEN ON EARTH! I belive that in great part is because of the new General Manager, Silvia Balcazar, she greets every guest and every team Member by their name (dont know how she does it!! Still shocked about it!!) when you find a leader like that you kindda stop wondering why people are happy at work and why they care about us, guests.
Macedonio at breakfast would bend over backwards to please us and always made us laugh!!
Joel at Cevicheria is such a great and good hearted person, always attentive and ready to take care of things.
Martha at the front desk has the biggest smile and warming welcome.
Get ready if you decide to go because, I swear, you will loose your breath from minute 1. The view of this Property has no comparison to any other property and you can see the ocean from everywhere. I want to go back as I write this!!!!!
EXCELENTE!!!

What a fabulous time we had this week. The weather was beautiful ( even 2 days of rain were refreshing), the food ,out of this world, and outstanding service. The staff, Fermin, Alejandra, Antonio, Alberto, Macedonio, Juan, Julio, Joel, just to name a few, made our stay memorable. A small amenity filled Palace resort worth staying for a week,or more.
