A great place where everyone makes you feel like family.

Our stay at the explorean was outstanding. My first trip to Cozumel and it felt like home and it was impressive how much everyone there hurried to make sure all needs were met. Near the bar at the explores , Aguayo, Mario, Alfonso, Fermin, Juan and Miguel all make sure you have the meals you want and they are prepared exquisitely. Victor and Alberto are at the bar and pool and make you believe you’re part of their family. If you get up and around, the restaurants have Silvia and Juan as well as Marco who will all cater to your requests for their outstanding meals. In the spa neomy, sumiko, Pablo and Heidi are outstanding as well. Definitely make the trip, myself and the other 9 in our family definitely will!

We came here for our anniversary with high expectations but it's just not worth the money! When we first check in they told us that the restaurant wasn't open because they had a roof leak and they were working on fixing it, so we had to use the restaurants at Fiesta Americana and they are terrible! Really bad service, ceviche and drinks were served warm, servers and bartenders just ignored you, everyone seemed to be in a bad mood we had to tip people first to get attention and sometimes that didn't even worked, one time we gave one of the bartenders a $30 dollars tip to get a drink and never got a refill :/.. We went to the restaurant for breakfast one morning and instead of asking us if we wanted coffee they asked us for a tripadvisor review as soon as we got there ;/. We asked for a drink in 3 different restaurants and told us that the bar won't open until later that day :/, we ate at the Italian restaurant one night the food was ok but we wanted to seat outside but in order to eat outside you had to pick on of the add on items on the menu which have an extra cost, I think ours was like $50 dlls, which was ok but again the service wasn't there we had to go inside every time to ask for drink's refills and instead of candles they just placed a giant flashlight on our table.
(This is all from Fiesta Americana because we had to use those restaurants because the one on The Explorean was closed)
One of the other reasons that we were excited about staying there was the self serving bar but it wasn't working either since it's attached to the restaurant, they just had a folding table with a couple of mixers and like 4-5 cans of beer.

One our last day The Explorean restaurant reopen and we ate lunch there and it was actually really good and the staff was great which makes me sad because maybe our experience could've been better if we didn't had to go to the Fiesta Americana!

ACTIVITIES- Our first activity was cancelled due to the weather but they didn't let us know until we showed up 10 mins before the scheduled date, after talking to other guests they told us that they've offered them different options like kayak at night and that you can change your activities but we didn't know about this because nobody told us.
Since we only stayed for 3 nights we only get 2 activities and after all of our bad experiences we decided to not go to the other activity so we called a travel agency and booked a tour with them.

HIGHLIGHTS- The room was great, very clean and modern, both pools are great and the surrounding areas are beautiful! It is a very relaxing hotel, very quiet and private.
It's just the service that it's just not there. We talked to the manager one day but nothing really changed besides the morning service (coffee and pastries).
The best food we had was from room service, it was actually really good.

Wifi wasn't working, called twice and nobody came to our room, after 1 hour we had to go to the front desk and they told they were busy :/ They told us how to fix it which was super easy I just don't know why they didn't say that on the phone instead of kept us waiting for someone to come.

Trying to get bottle water is so difficult!!! We walked around both The Explorean and the Fiesta Americana asking everyone and they just keep sending us to the gift shop but it was closed!!

So basically my main complain is the lack of service, we just had a wonderful stay at the Aqua Playa del Carmen so we had really high expectations for this hotel!

amazing place

This is a little gem with amazing staff, fun activities, great food, clean, zen like, relaxed, friendly, safe, quiet, tranquil and fun. Would I go back, MOST definitely. They do anything in their power to make your stay wonderful. I don't want to brag about it tooooo much however because everyone will want to go! Keep up with the great job! ALL the employees do great work! Did I say we loved it? I could go on & on & on....

Great Variety of Pools, Caring Staff

You can really customize your vacation - romantic, party, or adventure. It's nice to have all three pools - Explorean pool is spa-like, the main pool is a party vibe and the pool by the water feels like a beach club.

Food in Explorean restaurant was always fantastic, fine dining really. Same with the Asian-fusion restaurant. Staff are really friendly and it was great to frequently be recognized and greeted by name. Snorkelling is good near the pier. Boat trip to El Cielo is amazing, especially the second time we went there with music on the boat, made it so fun.

The gym and spa at Fiesta are both very nice and don't seem to get used much. You can get a spa day pass for about $15 USD to use the steam, sauna, hot tub which was a great way to unwind.

Marco was fun to eat with at the fish taco bar. Restaurant servers in Explorean all 100% top notch. One of the other bartenders who worked at the ceviche bar and main Fiesta bar really made us feel at home too, younger bartender who always greeted me "tequila, fish tacos!!" Haha had a great time.
