How to Get There
Our rooms were extremely nice we rented two bungalows that were connected. Be careful as the tile outside the shower is slippery put down towels. The service is amazing both at the resort and over at the Fiesta Americana. They do a lot to keep you entertained and the excursions were a lot of fun. Renita is in charge of the excursions and she does an amazing job! She is very knowledgeable and friendly and makes everyone feel very welcomed! Johnathon took us on the snorkeling tour he did an amazing job pointing out really cool fish to us and insuring we were comfortable. The bars and food were great. We tried to order room service and were disappointed when it came almost two hours later and with half the order. It took us a while to be greeted when we first arrived which was unlike the other Explorean resort. We were also charged all inclusive for 4 days when in reality we only stayed 3 full days and only made it to 3 excursions because we arrived late the first day and left early the last. Sometimes my boyfriend went to get drinks and food and was turned down so that's why I only left three stars you can always try to go to a different bar if that happens because there's plenty to choose from; however in an all exclusive resort you expect to go the bar and get what you want. If they do not carry the alcohol you want they will do their best to get it(be sure to tell them on the first day you arrive because it can take a while.) Marco, Ruben, Dante, Roberto, Enrique, Henry, and Roberto were all very courteous, friendly, fun, and made our trip very memorable. There was probably a couple names I missed in there. Those servers out on the beach need sunglasses though I couldn't imagine walking around with the sun and the sand. Maybe ones that had the resort name on them or personalized with their names (almost like a name tag) so others can include them in the review. Overall it was a really memorable and grand experience and I will most likely return thanks to the staff. Thank you to the employees that went above and beyond that is what really made it a vacation!!!
My wife and I visited the Explorean for a week in the last half of October (2018), and we had an absolutely great time. Because we were at the Explorean we had access to the Fiesta Americana Cozumel resort as well (this includes their pools, bars and restaurants). Combined with the excellent restaurant at the Explorean, this was all we needed/wanted in the way of good and diverse food opportunities. As for the pools, our Explorean pool was relatively quiet (i.e., not too many boisterous kids) so we hung out there more than the Fiesta American pools. Of course, most of our time was spent on the beach, enjoying the wonderful ocean view and bottomless cocktails. The little seaside 'fish hut' had the best fish tacos I've had in a while, not to mention great guacamole. The activities and the tour guides who came with the Explorean package were the highlights of the trip (snorkeling, biking, jeeping, traditional sweat lodging, etc.), but I would be remiss if I didn't mention the absolutely high level of friendly, kind service by the staff at the Explorean. Carlos, Sunsa, Alexandria, Keyra, Luis and Angel were all very accommodating to these two gringos, especially in helping us with our Spanish when we tried it out. After a day or two there, they knew our preferences and served us efficiently and with the kind of hospitality one comes to expect from a fine hotel. All in all we had a wonderful time and will almost certainly return when time allows.
We spent a week at the Explorean Cozumel and it was our best vacay in Mexico! The resort is very laid back with excellent service, food, staff and amenities. The rooms were very well appointed, very clean and spacious. Love the views into the jungle, the quiet, the rooms shower and really comfortable bed. Coffee outside your door each morning was a nice touch.
You have full use of Fiesta Americana adjacent to this resort. Combined this is not one of those massive, crowded resorts. It is still small and very comfortable with several restaurants. We tried them all and the buffets in the beach plus a fabulous grill and cevicheria - each meal and morsel of food was excellent.
The beach is rocky like most of the island but warm and clear with multiple, easy access points to snorkel or swim. The pier at the resort is convenient for excursions - most folks will pick you up right there.
Coming back for sure and with kids. Very very safe. Special shout out to the staff who were all warm, friendly, super-helpful, funny, and fluent in English. However we wanted to practice Spanish and they were great at helping with conjugating properly. I hope I don’t forget someone but really appreciate Sergio, Roberto, Alejandra, Sylvia, and Marco. Thankful for the staff at the Explorean and Vina Del Mar and the Cevicheria for a fabulous and relaxing all-inclusive vacation!!
This truly was an amazing experience! This was the first time we have visited Mexico.
First, I do need to mention that when we did arrive at the airport and we needed a shuttle to the Explorean. We were stopped by a women who knew we needed a shuttle and guided us to a gentleman for assistance. Please avoid this and go directly to the shuttle desk instead. The gentlemen was offering tours instead of helping us with the shuttle and they want you to purchase a tour and listen to a seminar about purchasing a vacation club. We did purchase a tour to the Tulum Mayan Ruins and than went to the shuttle desk and we purchased the ticket for the shuttle and you share rides with others that are dropped off at different hotels.
Once we arrived at the Explorean we were greeted by our Concierge Ricardo Zapata and we explained what happened to us in the airport. Ricardo was amazing and so kind! He apologized for the experience and he set up a guided tour to the Tulum Mayan Ruins for us at no charge plus offered a free message at their spa at the Fiesta Americana. We did not use the tour from the airport. Ricardo made us feel so welcome and always stopping by to make sure we were comfortable and enjoying our stay. Visiting the Mayan Ruins was an amazing experience and felt very safe and the tour guides were very helpful. I am so glad we did it but it was really not part of what is offered at the Explorean but I am sure they would assist in making arrangements for a tour if you were interested.
One of the appeals of the Explorean is it is quiet and cozy and they do offer free tours that are included. We took advantage of these tours, in addition you could walk to the Fiesta Americana which is practically attached and enjoy their activities and their variety of restaurants as well.
Our first tour was at the Mayan Temazcal Sweat lodge who was guided by Joshua who had amazing positive energy, extremely professional. This was a very spiritual awakening experience! Be prepared to sweat!
Our second tour was at the Punta Sur Eco Beach Park who was guided by Retana. She was so upbeat and passionate about Cozumel. She was an amazing guide. The experience was fun and they save the best for last which is swimming at the beach. Beautiful!
Our third tour was a snorkeling guided tour who was guided by Sergio Quisano who was an expert at snorkeling and so pleasant and fun to be around. I am not the best swimmer and was very nervous about snorkeling. Sergio made me feel very safe as with all of us who joined the tour. I can't say enough about how patient and kind he was! The experience made you feel like you were in a documentary. Experience of a lifetime!
The food was really good at all the restaurants available. There is something for everyone. All the staff at both hotels were so professional and pleasant! I did love eating at the Explorean the most and loved the restaurant staff!
Emanuel and Angel were excellent bartenders and made really made the best margaritas. Loved all the different types of Tequila!
At breakfast we enjoyed being greeted by Jesus (so pleasant and accommodating) and the rest of the morning staff (Carlos, Dante, Juan,Umbar and Alejandra) were all wonderful.
Our favorite place for lunch at the beach was the seafood. Amazing battered fish tacos! Marco always making me laugh and all the staff always made sure you were taken care of.
At Dinner we loved Alfonso at the Explorean and all the waiters. The dinner experience was wonderful and everything was presented so beautifully. Compliments to the chef!
Finally, just wanted to mention housekeeping! Gloria was wonderful and always leaving a beautiful flower on my pillow. Very sweet.
All the staff worked extremely hard to make sure your experience was positive and they deserve tips even though everything is all included!
Staff was friendly Roberto and Angel were amazing and very efficient they both really made all of us feel welcome and were extremely great with the kids. Restaurant staff Louis,Dianeil, Daniel,Jesus and Jhony were all very friendly and very professional.
