How to Get There
Occidental was clean, the rooms spacious and the food was good! The staff was pleasant and provided bottled water all every day. Get the all-inclusive. Fun for families but like most of the hotels, the pools get crowded in the evening and loud. Get your room away from the pools so you can sleep!
My husband and I stayed here for an anniversary trip. Nadia at the front desk and Brigido in guest services were amazing. We had a few minor issues and they both went above and beyond to make sure those issues were resolved. They definitely exceeded our expectations! The rooms are very nice and the grounds are stunning. This resort has done as much as they can to not disrupt the natural surroundings. It is literally carved out of the jungle! We saw lots of different plants and wildlife. The beach is beautiful and you can snorkel right off the beach. We saw lots of fish!
For our 6 day trip, it rained 4 1/2 of those days. The resort offers very little to do in inclement weather other than sit in your room, drink, or go off resort. There was a phenomenal band (Tequila Shots) that played for one hour on one evening. Nearly every person from the resort was out! We all begged them to stay longer but they did not. It was very disappointing.
Finally, the food is average. The breakfast buffet is the same everyday. The lunch and dinner buffets vary daily. However the restaurants that require reservations have the same menu every single day (with only 3 entrees to choose from.) The seafood restaurant is the best of the 4!
We loved the beauty of this resort. It is off the beaten path and away from the hustle and bustle of the city. However, the lack of activities and entertainment was enough to make us not want to return. Especially during the rainy season.
We stayed here on a family vacation in April. The beach is amazing...it was quite windy when we were there, so snorkeling was out of the question, and shade was spotty at best on the beach...could have used some of the palapas they tore out when they did the renovations. Rooms were clean, but very dated, but I know they were renovating some of the units as well. Food was good, but not great...but the employees were quick to help and the overall vibe was very relaxed at the pool we spent time at..but they do have a big fun activity pool if that's your thing. Overall, 4 out of 5...i'd probably go back.
we were there when it rain for 4 day and there really is not much to do when its raining. Hotel has no back up plan for indoor activity. Staff is friendly food is ok . Room was clean and a big size.
Not sure I would run back here.
We are part of the prestige club, and that was the worst part of it. We wanted to change hotel because there is not much we we could do in Cozumel. To make another reservation through the club to another hotel to Cancun or Playa del Carmen was impossible. No one knew anything. No one pick up the phone. When we call the club directly they hang up on us. The experience was disgusting and very unpleasant. We decided to leave the hotel after 3 days of staying there. At the Cozumel hotel they double charge us. The First Charge was for 800 USD for 8 nights which we did not stayed. Then instead of giving the money back they charge us for 400 USD for 3 nights. We steal dealing with the double change issue. I DO NOT RECOMMEND BUYING THE CLUB MEMBERSHIP, THEY ARE NOT HONEST AND THEY MAKE IT IMPOSSIBLE TO USE IT.
