How to Get There
My husband and I just got back from Cozumel and spent 7 nights at El Cid La Ceiba from 12/1-12/8. We didn't know what to expect as it was our first time visiting the island. I am so glad we stayed here - it is a nice small resort... you don't get tired just walking from your room to the beach/pool. Everything is just steps away. Everyone was very nice and pleasant. The grounds, beach, and pool areas were very well kept and clean. We stayed in the low-rise part of the resort, and as RCI members we were given an upgrade to the one-bedroom studio, which was very spacious. Air conditioning was nice and cold. No mold or mildew smells at all. Huge bathroom and soaker tub, a nice kitchenette, living room area, gigantic bedroom, and two big closets. The mattress was comfier than our pillowtop at home, and plenty of comfy pillows. The housekeeping was very friendly and accommodating to our varying morning departure times from the room. Everything was left spotless and our housekeeper always left cute towel animals/creations on the bed. The outside area was fantastic - there are tons and tons of beach and pool chairs, and the towels were huge and comfy to lay on. The drinks and food at the waterfront restaurant were fantastic. My husband loved the surf and turf, and their steak tacos were great. I ordered lots of mojitos while laying out in the sun. One of the best features of the resort was the amazing beach and swimming area. The water was crystal clear, not a speck of seaweed, and very calm. You could get in via the little beach area or the dock or ladder. Some of the best snorkeling we did was right in front of the resort, go figure! The resort was right next to the international cruise terminal, and I thought it was pretty cool to see the ships coming in and out every day. The resort is still very central to restaurants, souvenir/convenience stores, and anything else you might want to do. We rented a car but next time will stick with using a taxi as we felt we didn't really need to leave the resort much save for a few dinners in town (HIGHLY recommend Pepe's and La Casa De Pescador), and an occasional beach club visit (Paradise Beach was great). We do not have kids and appreciate that El Cid La Ceiba was not crawling with them. It was VERY quiet at night... you could sit out on your balcony and hear crickets after 8pm. If you are looking for a loud party resort full of college kids, this isn't the place for you. But there is plenty of fun stuff to do - pool gym and pool volleyball, snorkeling trips, excursions to the mainland, bingo and salsa dancing, etc. We're in our early 30's and like our vacations to be relaxing. We did not pay to get the wifi - there are quite a few restaurants in town that we went to for breakfast/dinner and we just checked our emails there. There is an office in the lobby with two computers you can use for free... we used that to look up a couple of restaurants. It was nice disconnecting from technology for a while. We would DEFINITELY recommend and return to El Cid La Ceiba.
Location is great-Esther arranged fantastic accommodations-staff friendly and attentive - lock on door needed replaced-toilet drained slow- $50.00 charge for the week to use WiFi- Per device! Each additional WiFi was 35.00 per device. That was not disclosed anywhere prior to booking- drinks tasted watered down, pop was flat and they used what seemed like sugar free fruit mix for the drinks which left a bad after taste- We asked for real fruit but that didn't happen.
We had a great room with a great view up in the tower. The rooms are big and the beds are so comfortable. We enjoyed having a small kitchen in our unit too. There is a nice area to layout by the ocean, and the water is crystal clear. We snorkeled on property and saw a ton of fish. Great get away, nice and quiet. The maids were very nice and cleaned our rooms each day. All of the employees were wonderful.
Although the rooms are a bit dated, they are up kept, clean and comfy. The beach is fabulous to snorkel from (lots of salt water fish of various sizes). Weve even seen octopus on previous stays. The restaurant has amazing food and great friendly staff. Cold bevvys in the restaurant or in a beach chair isnt an issue. Taxi fare from the ferry docks is reasonable.
Felt as if we had to tip to receive service. Paid for all exclusive, yet the people with day passes got treated better than us. Food was good, drink and rooms were okay. Arrived and had to get are lock replaced because it wasn't working.
