How to Get There
The boat from the mainland was one of the highlights of our stay: we’d escaped from the seaweed stench of Zoetry Paraiso and management moved us to their sister hotel on Isla Mujeres. A member of staff cracked open a bottle of fizz as the boat sliced through the turquoise seas to the paradise island. It was bliss.
On the one hand it’s a lovely little hotel. Staff were friendly, very accommodating but, for me, the hotel is just too small and there just aren’t enough staff. I darted to the beach full of expectations and took up residency on the last remaining sun lounger. The sea was beautiful. After a while I wanted some water: no staff. About 30 minutes later I found one and ordered said water. None arrived. Then I asked again: nope, not this time either!
Our room was lovely, small but perfectly formed. Bed linens were lovely, silky rather than the coarse linens we’d found at Its sister hotel.
Food really wasn’t that great. Breakfast wasn’t even worth getting out of bed for. The wines were better than the stuff they served at Paraiso.
Now, to me, a downer was the Cosy Bar. Honestly, cosy is an understatement, it’s smaller than my living room. If two people stood at it, it’s packed. The upside is you get to meet lovely people as you have to socialise. We did have fun.
Loved our sunset cruise too. That’d be one of my highlights of our holiday. Beautiful.
To me this is a weekend retreat, if you stayed here for 14 nights you’d go stir crazy.
This was our second visit in 12 months...The first visit was in December of 17. This time we were on our honeymoon. The staff again was amazing....From our pick up at the airport , to the yacht ride to the resort, to the welcome we received , to the Restaurant staff and Chefs, it couldn't have been more perfect!!!! If you are looking for a place to
Awesome hotel and vacation! Juan Carlos and Genner are the staff to make your vacation the most memorable ever. Hotel is really private which allows you to get most attention you can handle. Island is fun and rent the golf cart (It is a must do). We meet great people who has been here several times. We will definitely return.
To those who are flying from the UK - be aware of the potential flight time! We flew from Gatwick and due to the jet stream being in the “wrong” place it took over eleven hours to get to Cancun. However the hotel ensured the boat was waiting for us so we were still in time for dinner.
We stayed in a superior ocean front room, which seemingly can only be booked through Virgin Holidays as the hotel don’t advertise they have such a room. It was huge but other than a massive bed, two chairs and a low table there was just a blank space in the room. The view was superb but there is no balcony. The downside of this room became apparent the day it poured with rain and most people had room service but this option wasn’t really available to us due to having no balcony or dining table.
Two days before the end of our holiday the hotel needed our room (for the Manager to stay in) so they upgraded us to a junior suite ocean front which had more drawer space, a large settee, coffee machine, two showers and a balcony with hot tub. The only problem with this room was the noise from the road outside, both from the golf carts and from the workmen building objects to transfer into the hotel. We also heard that people who were staying in these rooms had been very aware of lewd behaviour in the jacuzzi pool until 1am whereas we hadn’t heard anything of it in our original room as it was near the adult pool and very quiet.
I believe the difference in price between the rooms is about £30 per night.
As others have mentioned, going around the island on a golf cart is good fun. I suggest you make your own arrangements in town to choose and collect a cart as the hotel had to await confirmation that their contracted company had a spare cart, despite booking it the previous day. By the time we were able to have ours it was 10.30, we had been ready at 9am. The tyres had no tread, the handbrake didn’t work (we had to take a brick to secure the tyres) and there was no lock. This was 1120 pesos for 9am until 5pm booked through the hotel.
Everything was cheaper on the island if you used pesos rather than dollars.
The food in both restaurants could not be faulted. The quality, variety of menu and service were all superb. We have eaten in many different hotels worldwide and can honestly say this is one of the finest experiences. Always ask what the specials are, we loved Dennis’s enthusiastic explanations.
You can watch the pelicans, frigates and dolphins at breakfast and the sunset at dinner. What’s not to like?
My thanks to Kevin and José on reception for being patient with me trying to converse in Spanish. José, a junior waiter in casa Rolandi was very attentive and willing to improve his language skills. He will become an asset to the restaurant.
The adult pool was respected by all guests as a quiet area but our only disappointment was the lack of service by the pool bar staff - unless you had a dollar in your hand!!
This hotel is a treasure to be frequented by those who like peace and good food. We will return shortly I hope.
We've been to this hotel for nine years in a row, and I still look forward to it every year. The food is delicious, the service is fantastic, the views are amazing, and it's the perfect place to relax and unwind. Even when we got rained out one day, I still had a great time.
