How to Get There
My wife and I spent a few days for her birthday at the Villa del Palmar. We were looking for a place to do nothing but nap and play around the pool and on the beach. We were looking for a place with no place to go. We stayed all inclusive. The food was good, the drinks just fine, and the staff attentive.
It is a little further that most of the "downtown" hotels. We made the mistake of booking shared transport. It took two hours to get to the hotel from the airport. We took a taxi on departure it is US $40 for two and much faster
We are Garza Blanca members and decided to stay at the villa del palmar. It wasn’t a good start to our vacation as when we arrived at 9am we were told that our room is priority and is being made up. Fast forward 7 hours and 45 mins later and our room was finally ready us. It was a very hot day and we have a 4 year old & 4 month old so staying out where there isn’t any shades and for some strange reason the umbrellas weren’t out on the pool deck. Every couple of hours I would check to see if our room was ready and was fed lies. The customer service at the front desk is the worst! I spoke with Bernice who told me to have my 4 month old sleep on a very small cushion couch. With the amount of points we have and being elite members they would take care of us. Nope not at all. Didn’t get into our room like 4:45 pm.
If anyone is thinking on contemplating getting AL, please do breakfast alone ranges from $27-$30usd
Drinks are from 82 pesos and up.
I found the service to be very lacking at the pool restaurant, lots of servers standing around. I’ve noticed whenever I ordered food they would bring the bill so I would tip, more then once during our stay. this happen often not only to our group but to others.
The beach, it’s nice has a ring of black water and seaweed, not once did I see anyone clean it up. There are also no large waves that you would see near the hotel zone with crystal blue waters.
The ferry, there are two ferries located behind the resort. 2 mins walking distance.
One cost 40 pesos and the other cost 46 pesos, 1,way. not much of a difference in time.
The room was modern and spacious depending on what unit you stayed in. There was an odd odour that lingered on the linin and towels. The water didn’t smell great either.
Overall it’s a decent hotel but I’ve stayed in much luxury hotels and this one is definitely not. Food okay, customer service atrocious. Will I stay here again likely not. My points as a member allow me to stay at the villa del palmar which is why we gave it a try.
This was our first experience with an all inclusive resort. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The rooms were comfortable but there was no table, desk or chair in the room. The food was great but there was no place to eat lunch out of the heat. It was not worth the price.
Angel, or El Mago, always takes care of us at the resort. We immediately check for his bar schedule every time we come here so we can see what drinks he has up his sleeve. He makes exotic drinks that don’t even have names, and we’ll usually drop in to chat at his bar before dinner. He is an asset to the resort and a highlight for our new friends that come to visit. If you want an amazing drink, find Angel and ask him to make you one of his specialties.
This resort was out of the way a bit(30K from the airport) but worth every penny. It is walking distance(3 mins) from the ferry which makes a very fun day trip. Hey the ride costs only 40 Pesos. The room was spectacular. We did not get the optional all-inclusive package. Drinks were very expensive so we shopped at the supermarket for a few things. There is a bus out on the street into town for 10 pesos , have to taxi it back but that was only 120 . The pool areas were very abundant and lots of loungers around. The beach needs some work, but I think they are working on that. This is one of the best resorts we have stayed at in Cancun. The service of all was very commendable. The activities staff at the main pool was awesome! honorable mention goes to Brian, Ramano and Anriki, they made our stay there, so enjoyable. Will stay here again!!
The only cons are:
expensive internet, almost all hotels and resort offer free internet these days. (though we did find free internet at the starbucks outside, it was a pain)
monopoly on the taxi's coming into the property. I had a cab driver that I really liked and they would not allow him to come back to pick us up?? kinda weird, I would say.
