Our family returned 3 years later to find many of the same amazing staff members and a consistently immaculate resort. Jorge, William, Philippe, Joaquin, Jonathan, Miguel (to name a few...) are all outstanding bartenders and genuinely wonderful people. Everyone is so happy and friendly you can’t help but have a fantastic time! See the elite concierge service for a romantic dinner on the beach. If you are in need of a massage or facial be sure to see Carlos at the spa :) We truly enjoyed our stay and will hopefully be back again. Well done! Hasta luego, amigos!!!

Lagunamar is the best

This was our second time at Lagunamar. The hotel is right in the middle of the hotel zone across the street from the mall. This makes it very easy to walk to a number of restaurants and amenities. We like La Madonna and La Perrilla across the way.

We walked to the liquor store

From the moment you arrive at the airport and deplane through customs, the staff and services at Westin Lagunamar Cancun treat you like royalty and like family. The One private car transportation service (arranged by your concierge in advance) gives personal one on one service to the resort upon arrival and from the resort when your trip is complete. Once on site, everyone is welcomed

Just came home from a week with Westin Lagunamar Resort today, and my family is ready to come back again. We love this resort. Friendly staff, clean, great fitness facility, great pools, good food. So glad this is my home base timeshare! Thank you Westin Lagunamar Resort for a perfect family vacation! We love you!

Some positives
Reviewed 2 days ago

Due to our incoming flight arriving late, we only checked in around 11 pm. After travelling most of the day and with tired and hungry children in tow, we were dismayed when we enquired about somewhere to eat that nothing was open at the Westin (as the kitchens closed at 11). With no help from the few staff on duty, we went across the road to find one local restaurant that was happy to pack some food as takeout. So if you are planning to check in late, be Aware that you might end up going hungry. It was the first sign that although the place carries the Westin name, it really doesn’t have the same facilities or amenities. What use is a kitchen in the room at 11 pm with nothing to cook with?

We had a one bedroom that was well appointed and comfortable, for the most part. The fold out sofa bed had a very thin mattress so we requested an extra blanket to pad it out, which was delivered promptly. Bizarrely, this was removed during housekeeping on the second day and never returned. Housekeeping was also patchy - we slept in one day and asked housekeeping to come back after an hour, and they never did.

When we inquired about a whale shark excursion, we were offered the tour at a 40% discount for being gold spg members. As we said we’d go ahead, the catch was dropped - we’d have to sit through a 90 minute marketing speel to purchase a time share. We took the discount and went along with the sales pitch, but clearly there is some work to be done because they were marketing the product at the wrong people. Even by the admission of the senior sales manager (who came in to answer some questions for us), it really doesn’t make sense for people who live in Asia pacific to buy a timeshare with the home resort in Mexico! Perhaps there are people who are happy to drop the equivalent of USD $70,000 without legal advice from their home countries, but I certainly am not one of those people.

Some pluses - the pool area was fabulous and we loved the vibe. At 11 Pm on check in we were lectured to about not reserving a pool chair, except there was no follow through and plenty of chairs that had been reserved. We ordered some food and drinks by the pool side and these were fresh, well made and arrived promptly.

We requested a late checkout and were allowed to stay until 12 pm, however our key cards stopped working at 10 (and we had to trek to reception to have it reset). I was rather abruptly informed that “even owners aren’t guaranteed late checkout”. I personally don’t care too much about owners or non owners, given that the resort made no distinction between the two at the time of booking and were more than happy to take our reservation (at a fairly hefty rate too).

I used to be a big fan of the Westin group. But after 3 stays at Westins around the world, it appears that the standard has dropped and it really is not what it used to be.
