Nice resort but not five stars
Reviewed 2 days ago

I stayed at this resort with my family and had a pleasant stay but not a 5 stars experience was 4 one would say.
Let's start with the room that was really good and spacious, we had a one bedroom suite with private terrace, so we had a lovely lounge and kitchen and separate bedroom...very convenient. The room was really clean and our housekeeper Axeley May was lovely, with good attention for detail.
Regarding the dining options this is where there is a Downside. There are few restaurants outside the resort that are lovely but need to catch a shuttle that u need to wait for half an hour as cannot be booked in advance, also even more if you are all inclusive lots of options are charged extra as lobster, sure and turf etc...that I don't think is correct with the amount of money we already paid.
Regarding dining options inside the hotel there is basically only one (la veranda restaurant) where the buffet is really average for lunch and dinner and u need to order a la carte to have decent food. There are another two bars, the sand dollar where they serve sushi but is not good unfortunately and the sport bar that is ok but serve only bar food as burgers.
We therefore had dinner and lunch most of the times here at la veranda for convenience with our son and ordered a la carte even if we tried two options, captain cove on the lagoon that was nice but again u r restricted on what to choose if you don't want to be charged and the hacienda sisal, nice Mexican food.
The staff was nice even if we found that at the last hotel we've been they were much more friendly and helpful. Therefore there are few exceptions that are worthed to mention as I think they did a very good job. First the housekeeper I already mentioned, then Silverio, Natalio, Henry at la veranda...all very nice and professional.
In complex i am not sure if I would recommend it to friends and family this resort as I think there are better ones. The facilities in term of pools are nice, good choices for adults and kids but not much attention to detail as for example no snacks or super alcoholic in the room or not very often service around the pool...all things expected when u book all inclusive and expect a 5 stars experience.

First time in Cancun

Lovely resort on the Caribbean. They made us do the all inclusive which was ok since we had never been down here before and didn’t know what to expect. Would not do it again since there are many places to eat. But the Royals have a number of resorts on the strip that you can use and other restaurants to eat at. The best in our experience was The Conquistador at The Royal Islander. The ocean at the Sands can be a little rough. At the Royal Cancun it is very calm. All in all the resorts are really nice, well maintained and the people are very friendly. I would definitely come back to Cancun.

Already looking forward to next year

My husband and I always look forward to "Coming Home" to The Royal Sands. We can't say enough good things about the staff. They are what makes us come back each year. They are so welcoming, always have smiles for everyone, and it always has me baffled that the pool and beach servers know our names from day one...sure wish I had that talent! Many thanks to Moises, Felix, Edwardo, and all the other servers and behind the scenes staff that make our vacation so perfect!

David was our Concierge last year....one of many over the past few years. Unlike some that we never saw, he always made an effort to find us at the pool. And one night this year, after dark, I ran into him still at work. We had asked him last year if he could be our Concierge this year and he graciously agreed. But once again, we were notified by a different Concierge, who had emailed my husband. Timing worked in our favor as I had just sent David an email the day before, asking if he could be our Concierge which he was able to take care of for us.

The staff at The Royal Sands is what makes us come back each year. Many thanks to all the hard working employees that we see and also those that are working hard behind the scenes to give us such a wonderful and relaxing vacation.

My husband and I don't go to La Veranda very often, but we do make a point of going at least once during our stay to support the staff that work really hard and always with a smile!

One part of the Royal Sands which probably gets very little mention is the Laundry service. Since we are in Cancun for several weeks, we do take advantage of this service. When we come back to pick up our items, they are waiting for us, nicely folded. And the laundry area is always spotless!

Our time at The Sands flies by each year, but we always go home with wonderful memories, and impatiently wait for next year to arrive!

My home away from home

I spend a lot of time at this resort and it is a outstanding resort. This resort goes out of the way to make your stay the best it can be. We have been coming here for the last 18 years, the resort has been well maintained in and out and most of the villa’s have been updated. This was a private time share but now is a hotel so if you come here you may be asked to do a time share presentation. Because it is a time share it is more lay back, really not a great place to party. You want to come to Cancun and be safe this is the place
