Get the royal treatment at Royal Sunset Beach Resort, sitting on one of the most beautiful shores in the Mexican Caribbean and the sought-after Cancun hotel zone. This stay has it all: comfortable rooms and suites, a variety of gourmet dining experiences (including a dinner theater), a spa inspired by ancient Mayan techniques, water sports, yoga and guided bicycle tours. And with kids’ activities, it’s also a great choice when you’ve got a royal family in tow.
Beyond the resort is the best of Cancun nightlife, shopping and restaurants, including popular Coco Bongo, Señor Frogs and Carlos ‘n’ Charlie’s. But the fun goes on here, too, like at the yacht club and lagoon, designed to get you close to Mexico’s sea life. And the daily itinerary of activities isn’t so sparse, with options like Pilates, cooking lessons, poolside fashion shows, shopping tours and beach volleyball – it really is a taste of Cancun’s best. Or shall we say, a royal flush?
A romantic escape, each Royal Sunset accommodation brings together comfort and Caribbean charm. These abodes each hold sleek furnishings, a balcony or terrace with lagoon or ocean views, a kitchenette with utensils and robes and slippers for two. The 473-square-foot Junior suites come with a queen bed and offer a balcony or terrace with a view of either the sea or the lagoon.
Sunset Royal’s five restaurants offer five unique dining experiences, inspired by international cuisine and the Riviera Maya. Find international-buffet breakfasts and lunches at Acuario and Cappricio, dinner shows at Moonlight Theater, casual eats and cocktails at Aqua Grill and sophisticated Asian-fusion dinners at Bamboo.
Ya’ax Che Spa draws from ancient Mayan wisdom and modern technology to relax your mind and rejuvenate your body. Treatments incorporate natural ingredients, like lemongrass, lime, jasmine, aloe, organic honey and rainforest flowers. From the Massage with Mezcal & Lime in Chaya and Red Wine Massage to the Lavender Rosemary Body Wrap and a full-service beauty salon, its menu promises a complete spa experience, from head to toe.
One of the most popular tourist destinations in Mexico, Cancun is known for its beaches and party atmosphere. But as much as it boasts in nightlife, it offers in low-key relaxation and heart-racing adventure. From watching the sunsets and going shopping to touring ancient Mayan-ruin sites and the jungle, a variety of tropical activities can be enjoyed here. The larger Riviera Maya is also home to Playa del Carmen, Tulum, Cozumel and Puerto Morelos – other unique destinations, each with its own history and pristine shores.
How to Get There
I have traveled to many places about 3 vacations a year, this year for my last stop I visited Cancun for the second time ever. Let me say, this is a vacation I will never forget. I had the opportunity to stay at Sunset Marina, and spent all 7 of the days I was here at Sunset Royal. My friend and I were treated like royalty. Literally felt like celebrities. We had the most amazing staff waiting on us the whole trip. We started our morning by having breakfast at Marina, delicious food options at the buffet, then made our way to Sunset Royal (sister hotel we had all inclusive access to), spent 5 hours at the beach, Isaias took amazing care of us, he brought us our favorites every day. He took the time to get to know us and had our bed, chairs and umbrella ready for us each day! He was so great and such an amazing and sweet personality. Gracias Isaías! Next we took the bus back to our hotel Sunset Marina, the bus driver Pascual was the best! He always kept his eye out for us an made sure we knew the bus schedule so we wouldn’t miss it. He gave us the best tips for Souvenirs at great prices and also must go to places for tourist. He was so great, definitely a memorable and genuine person! Next we would go back to our room to get ready for dinner, back at Royal at Capriccio, where we met Javier and he waited on us each night, he went out of his way to give us the best service possible and performed the famous Mayan Coffee for us on our last night there along with our lobster dinner. He left us speechless! At Capriccio we also met the Saxophonist Felipe aka Maestro. Absolutely fell in love with his playing. He played Luis Miguel classics so beautifully. The whole experience at Capriccio kept us coming back night after night. The food was amazing as well. Back in the Lobby we met Roman the bartender. He hooked us up with his famous signature martini drink. Always took such great care of us and made us really feel like friends. This hotel chain has amazing people doing a great job. For anyone considering this chain please take your time to ask questions and make friends. People here are so genuine, humble and happy! We will definitely be back next year! Also don’t forget to tip! :) thank you all for the best vacation ever!
BEWARE OF VIP TRAVEL CLUB AND THE SUNSET ROYAL CANCUN - IT CAN BE SCARY!
Imagine an All-inclusive dream vacation booked and paid for months in advance. I even paid for transportation from and to the airport too. Imagine that you are an owner at the Royal Sunset, you are excited to experience a fun and relaxing vacation with two of your best friends as your guest. It was supposed to be a luxury one-bedroom suite with an ocean view. Saturday is here and away we go, Cancun here we come!
Now reality hits you like a ton of bricks! No taxi to pick you up at the airport. It’s a long ride to the Royal Sunset and when you arrive, there is no reservation in your name. You show the front desk the reservations paperwork from the VIP Travel Club, but it’s worthless.
The VIP Travel Club office located in Cancun, Mexico, is an affiliate of the Sunset Royal (you buy into it when you become an owner with Sunset Royal). So, it’s Saturday evening and had to wait until Monday when the VIP office would be open for business. I had to pay an above-average price for a standard hotel room and no ocean view. Two and half-days later and I was still waiting to hear from the VIP Travel Club to resolve the reservation issue.
My friends and I packed our bags and headed to the Marriott Cancun to salvage our vacation.

My girlfriend and I stayed 4 nights at Sunset Royal. It was a very relaxing trip and we really enjoyed the resort. The amenities and restaurants were nice, and the staff was very helpful. We spent most of our time on the beach. We got a cabana every day and the service on the beach was especially good, bringing us food and drinks regularly. In particular, Julio Isaias took very good care of us and he was very friendly. We would definitely recommend this resort.
