In the heart of Cancún’s hotel zone, the 214-room Sandos Cancún Luxury Experience Resort is on the beachfront between the turquoise Caribbean Sea and vast Laguna Nichupte — a water setting echoed by three split-level infinity pools and a sea-facing Jacuzzi.
Bed & Bath
Guestrooms are uniformly spacious, with a Miami-chic look in cream and crisp white, and modern extras like 32-inch TVs and marble bathrooms. Premium Superior Rooms take advantage of their high-floor position with balconies (in most) and sea or lagoon views. They also offer guests access to the Premium sixth-floor bar, as well as the beach cabanas.
The all-inclusive rate (meals, drinks, room service, most water sports, taxes and gratuities) means revamped dining options in the four restaurants: international fare at Zango, à la carte Caribbean dinners at the alfresco St. Trop, Asian flavors and a dress code at Gaijin, and buzz-worthy molecular gastronomy at Seasons. After dark, live entertainment comes courtesy of local music troupes, and the central Bar One stays busy late into the night. But the aptly named Spa del Mar is where the resort really shines. The 15,000-square-foot complex houses 14 treatment rooms, a cold plunge pool, an outdoor whirlpool, steam rooms and treatments including body wraps of sea plants and marine algae, and specialized massages.
In the Area
Active types will be kept entertained on windsurfing and sailing excursions, or with a morning tennis match — the elevated clay courts are positioned, naturally, to take full advantage of the sparkling Caribbean Sea. Or venture out on a day-trip via ferry to the lovely Isla Mujeres for sun, sand, snorkeling, seafood and cerveza, then return to Cancun’s legendary after-dark scene at dance club, Coco Bongo. For more cultural entertainment, visit the ancient Mayan ruins of Chichen-Itza (the concierge can arrange tours) or head south to the more accessible cliffside ruins in Tulum. Dive lovers can explore the colorful Palancar, Santa Rosa and El Cedral reefs on an excursion to Cozumel.
How to Get There
I have just returned from a 4 night stay at the resort. I could not describe how friendly and welcoming the staff was right from the start. They all welcomed me and my family with open arms and large smiles. And tho it may be part of their jobs I feel that some of them had developed into friendships in the short stay that we were there. These friendships start with the bartenders Cesar, Flavio, Carlos, Pablo, Antonio, and of course Cecilia who not only stopped at nothing to make sure they got their job done correctly, but they obviously enjoyed what they do. They spent the whole time laughing and making people smile that it truly wouldn't have been possible to have a bad vacation around them. The next people we got to meet were in charge of entertainment on the resort. From my understanding there are four, however I only ever had the pleasure of seeing two of them. They were Abby and Facundo, and they truely have a gift. They both do a fantastic job with building a good energy for the guests and pushing people to try things they typically would be to shy to do without going to far all in the name of making sure everyone has as much fun as possible. The food here was far better than I imagined it would have been and our room was always clean and well stocked. The only negative part I could point out would be that some of the activities offered were a little underwelming. If at all possible it would be nice to see more activities directed towards the younger demographic, expecially as the day goes on. One thing I've seen before is giant beer pong played with trash cans and a volleyball which is easy to set up and play. And the volleyball courts were located directly near the turtle nursery cage was, so we couldn't make use of one of them. But, despite those couple small details my vacation was the best one I have ever been on, and I cannot wait to hopefully see all those same people when I go back.
We just got back from a 4 night stay and my husband and myself really enjoyed our stay. The room was spacious and had everything we needed and our mini fridge was always continuously stocked along with the yummy Nespresso Coffee! We have stayed at a few all inclusive resorts and having room service be included was really convenient! Food was a hit or miss, typical all inclusive resort food. We were there for a wedding and it was a beautiful day. The only cons we ran into was being denied service at the “royal elite” bar when it was empty and employees were standing around not doing anything, the night before we were served at the same bar with no issues. And another con was we did have a friend have some cash missing from her bag after a housekeeper was cleaning , but we kept all our valuables in the safe and didn’t have any issues with our own belongings.
We stayed in this marvelous resort in May 2018. The pool area is really beautiful with many cozy sunbeds. The three infinity pools are lovely. At the beach there are also plenty of sunbeds available for free which belong to the resort. The food is of very high quality. There are four à la carte restaurants and one buffet restaurant. The staff is in general very friendly and helpful. The rooms are really nice and have a lovely (side) view on the ocean. Throughout the day there are various entertainment activities such as beach/ pool volley, bingo, cooking lessons or even a foam pool party. The animation team - Victoria, Abigail, Facundo, and Paulo - did a really great job and enriched our stay at the resort. Although the live music at the pool and the parties at night can be noisy, there is also enough time for relaxation. The gym is very well equipped and there is also a spa. We had only one negative experience during our stay: We ordered an early breakfast to our room, but they did not deliver and the staff at the reception was not helpful after complaining about it. Nonetheless, we had a great experience at the Sandos resort and would choose it again for the next vacation in Cancún!
We love Cancun, and even though we were just there in February we wanted to visit again before summer. Our favorite property was, and still is, the Hyatt Zilara. Having said that, we wanted to save a few bucks on this trip and after searching the net selected Sandos for a more moderately-priced option. We had stayed at the neighboring property currently known as Hard Rock years back, and I remembered this as an interesting looking property from walking up the beach.
While it's not exactly the Zilara, it sports a much more affordable price and offers many of the same amenities we expect when we visit the beach.
The rooms are comfortable, clean, and well-maintained, the service is great, and the food is good. Don't expect shrimp to be served every day at the buffet or beach restaurant, but do expect to find something delicious and satisfying. The hotel sits perpendicular to the beach, so don't expect to see the ocean from your bed. Our room had a very pleasing view from the balcony of both the lagoon and the ocean, and while I certainly couldn't lay in bed and watch the sunrise over the turquoise waters of the Caribbean, I wasn't unhappy either.
The pool area is spread out over 3 pools and we had no problem finding a place to sit either at poolside or near the ocean. There were plenty of activities going on, and they did a great job of accommodating everybody from lounge lizards to party animals. We did find the music to be a bit on the loud side from time-to-time, but you are there to have a good time. after all. The servers at the pool came around frequently and provided great service.
I would seriously give the property a 5-star rating, but there are enough areas where I prefer our usual haunt to the point that I ddn't feel I could do so honestly. For the price, it is a 5 star hotel, but you can only give a single overall star rating without qualifiers. If you're looking for a nice property at a great price, you can't go wrong here. We really enjoyed it and will be back.
As an aside, I witnessed very few other patrons tipping the staff. The people at these all-inclusive properties work very hard to serve their customers and always do so quickly and efficiently. Be sure to bring a minimum of $25 or so per day in $1 bills to show the staff your appreciation for all of their hard work. They earn it.
Excellent service, everyone willing to help and make your vacation experience a unique one. Carlitos, Chantal, Abraham and the entertainment guys Victoria, Facundo y Paulo did a great job!! Greetings from Peru
