How to Get There
We came for relaxation and are so glad we chose the Altitude Tower. The bar had excellent liquor choices and Jahir was dedicated to make us happy! He was our favourite staff person and we spent time at his bar everyday chatting and laughing, sharing common stories of our homes and family. The breakfast area in Altitude was great; smaller than the International Buffett, but quiet and with personalized service. The rooms are modern, clean and simple with everything you would need (shampoo, soap, toothpaste, toothbrush, razor, vanity kit, shave soap, etc). The view of the ocean was spectacular and included chairs and table on our deck. We were thankful we were up high because the pool party down below starts early! The Infinity pool for Altitude guests was lovely but unfortunately “The Lounge” speakers are right next to it, so again, the loud music starts early and goes all day. It’s too bad, because otherwise it would have been very relaxing. A few years ago we stayed at a sister resort, Dreams, and the upgraded/Adult only section was zen; quiet relaxing music with its own bar with premium drinks and snacks, completely separate from the ongoing party in the main area. If Reflect Krystal Grand put up a hedge row or pergola along the back of the Bali beds that face the Infinity pool and turned down the speaker facing out from The Lounge it would be a huge improvement and block out some of the craziness. Also, there should be a dedicated server for that area. At times we were there for a few hours without seeing anyone walk by offering drinks. To escape the loud music you have to go to the beach, and the chairs are not as comfortable and everyday someone asks you to buy tickets for the Coco Bongo which is a giant party/show that happens every night. The food was really good, and each restaurant accommodated my husband’s celiac disease without issue. The food was probably the best food I’ve had at an all inclusive, the Mexican restaurant in the next hotel requires reservations, and we didn’t have an issue booking, we went twice. Ayami was our favourite for non-Mexican food and The Grill. I will say that if you want a burger or something “American/Canadian” then you may be disappointed. Eat the Mexican food they are good at making, and you won’t be disappointed. The guacamole is the best, the fish was always good, and you can’t go wrong with tacos! We felt 100% safe in the hotel zone using the public buses and we visited Cancun town one day on the bus as well. Overall we were very happy but it would have been the absolute best if there was a quieter space to escape the party and relax in the resort.
Upon arrival we were given a free upgrade to the Altitude Tower. Absolutely beautiful room with an amazing view. My only complaint about the room was the bed, high spot in the middle and saggy everywhere else which was quite uncomfortable, but nothing major.
This resort has amazing food. The best food we have ever had at a resort in Mexico. We loved Risotto and Ayami. The grill was a bad experience for us as the waiter was intensely pushy trying to sell us an extremely high priced bottle of wine despite us saying no thank you 5 times. Breakfast in the buffet was always good, lots to choose from.
The beach was absolutely beautiful. Soft white sand and crystal clear turquoise water. The wall that is on the side prevents the waves from getting too intense which is perfect for someone that’s not great at swimming, such as myself.
My only complaints were the lack of beach chairs and chairs by the pool. But a big part of that is caused by travelers putting their towels down at the crack of dawn and not even using them. Leaving everyone else that paid good money to be there with no where to sit. I even went down at 7am and they were already all gone. I wish this was better enforced to make it fair to everyone. Don’t be THAT person. However, I do wish the resort would provide more beach chairs to make it more accommodating to the guests as there is plenty of room for more.
The only other complaint is the lack of night time entertainment. The only things we saw were live music a couple nights. It was lovely music but it was sleepy and dull. Maybe something a bit more upbeat like music for dancing and hiring dancers for entertainment occasionally. We heard a lot of other people with the same complaint. I sure hope the resort management makes a change on this, these few small things will make a HUGE difference to the people staying here.
Overall it was a great vacation! I would love to come back to this resort, hopefully when the night time entertainment is improved upon. Thank you for the excellent experience!
The Krystal Grand was a beautiful place. The rooms were average, but clean. The staff was very friendly and attentive. The buffet was good, not great. But the two restaurants we went to in the hotel were fabulous. The grounds and pools were beautiful. The beach was beyond stunning. We went on an excursion to Isla Mujeres on a catamaran that was really cool and beautiful. Booked through Apple vacations. For what we paid we would do it 10 more times!!
The visit was excellent and the all inclusive didnt skip on the inclusions. The activities(volleyball and football) were great, I wanna give a specific shoutout to Ismael and Ivan, they were esential to the activity tem as they kept up the spirits and fun everyday of my stay! Hotel is well worth it.
We visit Cancun usually every second year and this is by far the best hotel we have stayed in yet. The beach was spectacular. Even though it was very rough waters and it rained most of the week the beach was still worth walking in the rain.
The room was lovely, our maid service from Nicholasa was fantastic, she ensured we had everything we needed all the time. Restaurant staff in buffet and a la carts was decent - the Japanese restaurant was the only one we found the serving staff to be a little less than friendly.
Bar staff for the most part was unfriendly and jokey and having fun amongst each other and truly ignored most guests. The cafe staff were fabulous, always friendly and serving guests with pleasure. Front Desk staff - very efficient and friendly.
Time share people - yes they are there - they seem to be in every large hotel in Cancun and the airport and ??? - ignore them politely and they will go away.
Pools at this hotel were lovely. Grounds exceptional. But most of all the food for an all-inclusive was exceptional - the best I have ever had anywhere in my world travels.
Definitely will be returning
