How to Get There
We stayed at Reflect Krystal from Nov 26 to Dec 1. We stayed at the 10 floor (1005), main tower for 6 nights. We arrived around 7am. The front desk said that official check-in time was 3pm and she said that she had asked for absolute priority so that we could get the room at 12pmpm. This part we totally understood. We returned to the front desk at 12pm and the lady said the room was not ready. She asked us to wait near the O bar and some staff would take care of us.
That staff was actually a time share rep. Of course they would not let us get the room because the time share rep did not start working that early. If we got the room early, the time share rep would not have a chance to talk to us. All was clear. Up front, the rep (Daniel) said that he worked for the hotel. When we asked him about the transportation pick-up time on the day of departure, he said that the hotel (or the transportation service) would contact us. Those were all lies. Of course we had to contact the transportation service ourselves. What if people really believed him and not to contact the pick-up service and miss the flight? This left a really bad first impression of the hotel – the front desk staff was cold and not helpful. But when they chat with each other, they were happy.
The room we stayed has a partial ocean view only when we sit at the balcony and at an angle. The size and condition of the room are decent. Air condition was strong. There were 6 bottles of water, pop and beer in the mini fridge. Soap, shampoo, bath gel and hair conditioner were provided. House-keeping staff came every day to clean and refill water and amenities. However, we didn’t have coffee and tea refill for half of the time. We had to call the front desk the service.
There is a safe (with digital lock) in the room. I used the safe for the tablet and we kept all valuable with us. You can also keep your valuables at the front desk. Overall the room was quiet and decent.
We had breakfasts and lunches at the buffet restaurant. The food was under average. Choices were very limited and repetitive. The buffet hall is small and the arrangement of food station is terrible – people can only form a single line for food. If people are slow, you will have no place to turn. The servers worked hard and were efficient.
We tried all al la carte restaurants: Japanese (2 times), Italian (Risotto), Mexican (outside of the hotel) and the Grill. Risotto was the best (food and service). The Grill was the worst and service was slow even when there were only 3-4 tables of guests. We sat next to the window. The server was slow and non-attentive. After appetizer, we had waited for >30 mins with no sign of the main course. The guests (with different servers) came after us had already having dessert at that time. We asked our server and he brought our food immediately from the kitchen. I ordered skewed meat and it was just room temperature. This means that the food was sitting in the kitchen for a very long time. Food was mediocre at best. After main course, we asked the same server for the dessert manual. He then disappeared for at least 10-15 mins. We had to ask another server for the manual. Our server came another 5 mins later and took our order. I told him honestly that we would skip dessert because we didn’t know how long it would take for the dessert to come. No attention and no apology for our long wait. We went to the Grill at 6:35pm and left at 8:40pm. We only had appetizer and main course in >2 hours. Majority of time was waiting time.
Overall our impression of the hotel was not great. Some staff (especially front desk and the Grill) was cold and not helpful. I definitely will not return to this hotel.
We really enjoyed our two weeks here! My husband and I celebrated our 35 wedding anniversary here. It was very relaxing. The beach here is the best in the Mayan Riviera . We played in the waves every day, water nice and warm. Very clean beach with great food and bar service. Flor, a lovely server brought us whatever we wanted, the best chicken quesadilla I have ever had and all the servers from the beach bar were just awesome!
We were in the main building on the twelfth floor and our air conditioning wasn't working that well. We complained about it for 4 days and we got moved to the Altitude building across from it with no extra charge and it was wonderful ! We loved staying in this building. The only complaint we have with the room is that the doors close so loudly and it echoes extremely loudly down the corridor from every room. You will be waking up from door slams!! Wear ear plugs.
Our favorite restaurant here was the Kuyani, the Japanese restaurant . Javier the Manager was so kind and engaging and ran the place very well! The servers, German, Rudolpho and all the servers were excellent ! The food was always excellent . The Grill restaurant was ok and the Rizotto Restaurant was always understaffed and waiting times were too long. The salad bar wasn't kept up, the risotto was very good but when we ordered the fig and goat cheese pizza, two different times, it came with apple and no figs! The best food was definitely the Japanese restaurant! The best snack was the quesadilla on the beach! Everyone was very friendly and would really try their very best to serve you! Very hard dedicated workers here! The maid service was excellent! Very clean and well kept rooms. The coffee machine with all the different coffees in the breakfast room in the Altitude building was the best! The Coco coffee and snack bar was great! They put out lots of cookies and pastries and sandwiches whenever you needed! Hanging out by the pool was fun but bar service was a bit slow. I noticed that if you tipped, you could tell the difference in service!! So tip well to be served well!! These people work hard! A hint for the restaurants,go and stand in line right a 6:30 when they open and you will get in right away! The Mexican restaurant , you have to reserve in the am of that evening you want to dine! Do it! It is fantastic ! Very authentic, great food and service, complete with Marharachi band! And they are excellent!
I found that it was hard to get change in pesos, the best was from the servers at the bar and at the beach. The main front desk, not so good, only large bills. I got the feeling that it was set up this way, so you would have only large bills to tip with!! Not sure, but after two weeks here, it was a trend.
We weren't hassled for time shares at all and the sellers on the beach were friendly, all you would have to say was, "No Gracias" and they would leave you alone. Going downtown , only a few minutes walk, is a different story! You will be hustled to buy everything! Don't even make eye contact!!!!! You will be fine!!
Overall this is a great, relaxing friendly, safe, place to stay! We recommend it!
Great beach for families with young children! There is a man made barrier that helps to break the waves- lots of sandbars, white sand, and crystal clear water. Absolutely lovely!
Pools are nice and well kept, staff clearly work hard, but they’re very understaffed for bar/restaurant/wait service. Poolside mixed drinks were great, but again, slow service.
The rooms for the Altitude Tower are fabulous! Fantastic beach views, but there are very loud/noisy generators from neighboring hotels. Make sure you have your reservations handy- we booked the Altitude Tower and then were told we booked in the old section of the hotel- I was already prepared for this from reading previous reviews. We were accommodated with proof of reservation.
Similar to previous reviews, I agree that the food is okay- good, but not great. There are select options for vegetarians, but the service (although very friendly and accommodating) is painfully slow. If you have young kids, you will absolutely need to distract them, or have snacks handy. Limited kids menus/options depending on the restaurant. The Grill is probably your best bet.
I read another review that said “have realistic excpectations”- couldn’t agree more. It’s a nice place, but if you’ve been to other AM resorts (e.g., Secrets) you cant compare the service- again, the staff are great, but they’re very understaffed.
If you can get a promotion/deal here, take it, just know what to expect.
Great location in the hotel zone close to restaurants, shopping (including upscale malls) and night clubs. The view from our room was excellent and nice size balcony! The rooms have been newly renovated and were very clean and comfortable. The lobby was a little outdated, but clean and open. We had the all-inclusive package so all food and drinks were included which was a really great deal! There is a variety of restaurant options (you will have to make reservations though) to choose from including a grille with buffet for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, a Mexican, Italian, and Japanese/Hibachi style restaurants. One night the hotel offered a buffet with seating/tables right on the beach!! Very beautiful view very romantic but also great for our girls trip. There is even a coffee shop that offered all types of coffee and pastries. I was able to use the internet and computers in the cafe but the internet in the rooms was very fast! The spa was a bit pricey ($75 for a pedicure), but has a very nice atmosphere and the massages were very relaxing. The front desk and cleaning staff were very courteous and helpful. I would highly recommend this hotel but get the ocean front room it's worth the extra charge. Also, we stayed in the older tower, but if I were to return I would stay in the newer tower since it looks to be more modern and allows you access to the private, infinity, adult only pool.
Stayed in the Altitude Tower. Staff was great and attentive to our requests. Food at buffet was below average and the setup needs much improvement. The food at the Italian restaurant was very good. The room was also very nice. Beach is nice, but not private to the resort. This is a family resort, on a small scale. If you want upscale, this is not the place for you though.. Plus is that it is downtown Cancun and you have a short walk to many attractions.
