Overview

Beachfront bliss with two restaurants, a pair of pools and a bar with the largest tequila selection in Cancún

The Lowdown

Located right on the beach, the InterContinental is a great fit for travelers looking for something other than an all-inclusive resort. You’ll find vacation musts like on-the-sand cocktail service, water sports and 24/7 room service, as well as beachside dining at the restaurant, El Caribeño, and the region’s largest collection of tequilas at Tequila Bar Collection & Terrace. Unwind by one of the hotel’s two pools or get an outdoor massage under a palapa. In your room expect a fully stocked minibar and a flat-screen TV; Club Level rooms also include a complimentary breakfast and afternoon canapés and drinks, plus private terraces with ocean views.

In the Area

The hotel offers plenty of activities, including jet-skiing, water-skiing, snorkeling and sailing right off the beach, plus the free ChiquiClub for kids from four to nine. For those looking to explore beyond the property, the concierge recommends a stroll through Mercado 28, a flea market that sells works by local artists; swinging your clubs at one of the region’s 13 professional-level golf courses; and dinner along the Bojorquez Lagoon at the Belgian/French restaurant La Palapa Belga.

Concierge floor is the way to go

We paid a little extra for the sixth or concierge floor, which was well worth it. It included complimentary breakfast, and from 6-8 pm complimentary beverages (including cocktails) and heavy appetizers, which was easily enough for dinner. The hotel has a great pool, a bar with swings, multiple restaurants and its own beach area with lounges and chairs. Easy walk to shopping and ferry. The room was large, beds were comfy and there was a balcony overlooking the beach.

Very Happy and Recommended

My family and I stayed at this hotel for 6 nights and was very happy with the service and amenities.
The main pool is great for kids and the beach was great with no seaweed, plenty of beach huts to sit in and relax with a cold drink in hand.
The room we stayed in had plenty of room with the room decor being pleasant. We had a room on the road side of the hotel and based on a few previous feedback of the room on that side of the hotel being noisy due to the road, it wasnt the case for us at all.
The food is great with my family and I all enjoying almost all of our dinners at the Le Cap Beach Club where the Fried Octopus Ceviche was absolutely delicious! The staff at the restaurant were also very friendly and helpful as were the staff at front desk.
The location of the hotel was also ideal as it was close to the bus stops for the R1 and R2 bus (outside the hotel for both directions), walking distance to the Forum by the Sea Shopping Center, restaurants, bars and the Chedrai Grocery store.
I would stay at this hotel again next time we are in Cancun which I hope is in the very near future!

It's old and it has lost its touch

The rooms are clean but they are outdated. The pool is fine but there are a lot of better pools in Cancun. All the staff was super nice and polite, as everyone in every hotel around. The food is decent, breakfast is abundant and delicious and room service is quick. There's a thing about this hotel that clearly tells you it has seen better days, it is indeed a nice hotel but it has lost its luxury touch. It definitely need a renovation soon.

Nicest beach in Cancun, close to the hotel zone and a very well trained staff. The Intercontinental Cancun is up to the reputation of its siblings. Rooms were nicely appointed, gardens, pool and beach were manicured. Staff was outstanding. I had a lot of needs as I was presenting at a conference. The staff knocked themselves out to help me with everything I forgot or found I needed. Concierge service headed by Adolfo was especially noteworthy!
