How to Get There
Customer service is out of this world. The servers and staff were super friendly and ready to serve. They asked us to choose our pillow type! We had full size bottles ready in our rooms when we arrived. About 20 minutes from the airport and close by coco-bongos. We are definitely going back.
This was our 3rd trip to the Zilara, this time for 8 days at the end of August. We have tried several other AI resorts in Cancun but this is the only one we return to, and having tried the others that are supposedly as good or better we will stick with the Zilara.
As many others have noted the service is very good, the staff are all friendly and go out of their way to insure you are satisfied. We like the new location of the coffee shop - although we were here back in April and it had already been relocated along with the Time Out sports bar. Those 2 public areas are the best for A/C if you need to cool down. The people working in the coffee shop knew after the first day our preferences and we never had to ask for anything, when they saw us they just made it for us.
The bar inside of Maria Marie is a great place for a pre or after dinner drink. The lobby bar is also a great spot for a cocktail or two, and the bartenders there especially Eduardo were all helpful and friendly, down at the swim-up pool bar Leon was great. We had no complaints about the drinks with the exception that the included house wines could be of a little better quality.
We are not pool people, we much prefer to sit on the beach so fortunately we do not have to play the chair grabbing game. I don't know why the staff can't walk around at some time in the morning, maybe 8:30 and any chairs "reserved" that are empty and not occupied at say 9:30 remove the belongings and allow others who don't think a vacation should involve getting up at 5 a.m. to put towels on a chair a chance to have them. I have seen that exact policy enforced at other resorts and on cruise ships.
We had excellent service from the beach crew, including Michel and a couple of other gentlemen whose names I can't recall, but especially from Reyes and Ligia both of whom would find a way to say Hello to us each day even when they were working at the pool.
The gym is a good size and kept cool, unlike at a lot of hotels where it is too warm. Plenty of machines, free weights, treadmills, etc.
Overall the food was good, we skipped breakfast most days and usually had lunch at Pelicanos, although also ate at Spice and Asiana for lunch a couple of times. Lunch at Asiana was the only time where we felt the service could have been better, the first time it was OK, although we observed our sushi sitting on the counter for 5 minutes before the waiter brought it over, the second time several other parties came in after us and were brought drinks before anyone had come over to us, and the place was not real busy. Service at dinner, however, was very good.
For dinners we dined at the Chef's table, Spice, Asiana, and Pelicanos - all were good and no one ever tried to upsell us either on the lobster nor the wines. There was always the revenue wine list and an insert for the lobster but no mention was ever made of them by the waiters. The only upsell effort we encountered was at lunch one day in Spice when the waiter was pushing me to buy the beer package.
We also attended the Tequila and Mescal tasting and the wine tasting with Hector the sommelier, both of which were informative and fun events. However, the wine tasting was in the lobby and it was quite hot, I needed another shower when it was over, as did Hector, I would suggest they hold it in an air-conditioned venue instead. The last night we did order a bottle of revenue wine and Hector came to offer a suggestion that turned out to be exactly what we were looking for.
The only real complaint I have, and others have mentioned this, is the lack of control over the in-room A/C temp. No matter what you set the thermostat to it never gets cooler than 22.5, and that is the best. We called maintenance twice, we were not present the first time they showed up, but the second time we were and all the guy did was show me that yes it was 22.5 C. That is not resolving the issue, for a high end resort you should be allowed to be comfortable in your room, and 22.5C is not comfortable when it is the middle of summer in Cancun. Interestingly enough when we were there in April the room we were in did not have this issue.
This was our first stay with Hyatt Zilara and we were pleased with every aspect of our experience! The rooms are gorgeous, cold with a/c, the bed so very comfortable and overall spotless! In fact, the entire hotel is spotless and kept up on a daily basis. The staff, my goodness, these people are happy and kind and actually seem to be enjoying themselves while at work - everyone - every single employee we encountered we had fun with. Angie and her entertainment crew were so enjoyable, every night was something fun. The food was amazing. The beach location excellent - bath water clear, minimal seaweed and nice manageable waves. The beach bungalows are comfortable and the staff keeps the refreshments coming. If anyone has a complaint about this place they cannot be pleased. We can’t wait to go back. Thank you Hyatt Zilara for a lovely long weekend!! Abrazos y Besos! Sandy y Bobby
