Action-packed adults-only all-inclusive resort on a peninsula jutting into Mexico’s Caribbean sea

The Lowdown

Take nine all-inclusive restaurants (Agave for Mexican, Basmati for Indian, and The Lobster House for seafood, to name a third of the options.) Add 11 bars (including swim-up, pool, and disco). Throw in seven pools (four heated, five with whirlpools) and a full service Miilé spa. Multiply by 450 rooms and suites (some with rooftop terraces, balconies, and jacuzzis). The end result is an entire peninsula turned adult playground with the beautifully-designed resort at its heart.

In the Area

On the same peninsula as the resort—within walking distance—is the Playa Mujeres Golf Club, one of the top courses in Mexico. Nature-lovers will want to venture fifteen miles north of the property to Isla Contoy, a protected island that is a nature preserve, bird sanctuary, and nesting ground for endangered sea turtles. Guests can explore the Great Mayan Reef (also known as the Mesoamerican barrier reef) or hop the ferry to the floating fishing village of Isla Mujeres. But the most impressive excursion of all may be two hours south to the massive complex of Maya ruins at Chichén Itzá.

Everything about our week stay at Excellence was amazing. From the greeting upon check-in, to the service at every restaurant - this experience exceeded our expectations. We travel frequently, and stick close to the all-inclusive options, and this resort was one of the finest we have been. Everything is top notch, but it is easy to understand why the property is so successful. The staff is amazing. WE WILL BE BACK. Special thanks to Luis @ Chez Isabelle, Manny and Miguel (Magic Mike) in the bars, and Guillermo at the Lobster House - you helped make our trip better then we could have hoped.

This was our first trip to Mexico. My husband and I have been to some other resorts in Bahamas and Hawaii and found the service and overall atmosphere of this resort to be comparable. The resort as a whole is beautifully maintained and the staff were always friendly and ready to help make our stay extremely enjoyable.

Paradise at Excellence

We were greeted with champagne and a cold towel! That's pretty much how the week went! We were treated like royalty the entire trip. The staff was helpful, friendly and knowledgeable. We had two amazing servers who served drinks on the beach and at the pool - Emiliano and Ignacio!
There was the pool or the ocean to dip into, and there was nothing like that color of that sparkling water!! We loved spending time on our balcony, having a pick of several restaurants, the night entertainment and our pick of the scenery of the day.

Every want and need met!

This is the second Excellence we have stayed at and, as at the first, it was very lovely. The property is immaculately maintained, the staff is uniformly eager to please, the food and drink abound, and everyone is constantly trying to come up with ways to entertain.
One may enjoy peace and quiet around the lazy river, or music and conviviality at the pools and bars. The beach is well kept and service is constant. There is the usual scramble for lounges that takes place at every resort, with people going out at dawn to stake out their claim, but the staff will help you when possible to find beach seating.
Food is quite good, very inventive and always available.
This is a quieter end of the resort area, very secure, so one might not have to worry about taking valuables to the beach.
It helps if you really like to drink and eat a lot, to maximize your visit!
