How to Get There
Beach- The beach was beautiful. If you have ever been to Cuba Santa Maria, I would say the beach it very comparable when it comes to how clear the water was. No seaweed and very calm. I would get up early to get the spot I wanted, but really no need. My daughters loved the beach,16 and 10. They loved the playing beach volley ball that was in the ocean. The entertainment staff made the games fun. The beach service from Miguel was awesome. He was very attentive and constantly making sure we had what we needed.
Front desk- Maria was very kind and helpful. She was able to change our room to a more quiet side of the hotel when we asked. She organized to have our bags moved to our new room while we were on the beach.
Food-Buffet-The food tasted very good. Even though they had different theme nights, I have had better buffet selections at other resorts.
The service was excellent. Arturo and Alberto were very attentive.
The restaurants- We really enjoyed the food from the French and Seafood restaurants . The staff was excellent. The Italian restaurant was good but long time in between entrees.
The Beach grill was very good. The cook staff worked really hard to make sure food was always delicious and ready.
The resort- The rooms are showing wear and tear. Bathrooms need to be redone.
Lucia did an great job with our room cleaning service. Our room was always clean and fully stocked.
The pools are small. My daughters went in the pools a few times. The lounge area around the pool was pretty crowded.
Overall, I would go back to this resort for the service the staff provided as well as for the beach. The wifi reception was great. It worked from everywhere.
I would rate this resort only a 4.5 star at best due to the fact of the aging hotel and the lack of high end options at the buffet, e.g speciality appetizers, lobster. Even though they had different food theme nights, certain foods were repetitive.
Apple website rated this as a 6 Golden...I was expecting more from the food selection. Thanks goodness for the exceptional service and beach.
I'm generally a pretty easy fellow to please, so this review is somewaht hard to write. Last year we stayed at Secrets The Vine nearby. They were full, so as members of Unlimited Vacation Club (God knows why) we decided on this Dreams. If UVC says that Secret The Vine is 4 star, this Dreams is at least 2 notches lower. The positives were the beach and generally really nice personnel. More on personnel in a moment. The beach is wide, the sand is beautiful and the water mellow. Perfect for kids as the water is shallow for quite a ways out. On the personnel topic; our hostesses and waiters were terrific. Shout out to Raul. Janet serving on the beach could not have been nicer. There was one incident that really was annoying though. Our college age son had friends staying nearby and invited them over for a day pass. $80 per person but they had to be out by dinner time. Okay. The gal was having some stomach pains and my son took her to his room to use the bathroom. Within minutes the security guards were in his room, telling him that he'd be charged $150 for the violation of her going to his room. The guards were aggressive and rude and had no interest in the gal's condition. Unltimately when I spoke to management, the $150 charge was dropped. But the entire episode left my son feeling he was constantly being watched. To back up, we are Platinum members of Unlimited Vacation Club. Again, I have no idea why we bought into the club, particularly since site like Expedia are so easy to use. But we did. When we signed up a year odd ago we were assured that we would have access to other resorts in their portfolio. Last year we found out how limited that access is when we visited a Zoetry and wanted to visit another Secrets. To do so is a NIGHTMARE. Last year we had to listen to yet another sales pitch when we visited the secrets before we were allowed to enjoy the site. This year we were offered the choice. Either be willing to sit for an hour update, which is purely a sales pitch. Having lived through a few of these "hour" pitches, I've learned that they are a minimum of 2 hours, but that would entail me being a jerk and threatening to walk out. More likely an hour becomes 3. Our other choice was to spend $120 per person to get a day pass to a club that we are Platinum members already. I reminded them that I wasn't making use of the membership I already paid for, so I'm not buying anything more. After a half hour with Juan Carlos (Very good guy, very professional) he took me to his boss. She denied my request, so we never saw the other Secrets. Suffice it to say, the UVC experience has been awful. So on to the hotel again. Very old, tired building. Too few elevators which at times were out of service. The rooms are very basic. Not even close to what we had experienced at Secrets. We had no balcony as a very small percentage of rooms have them. The food was just okay. The gym......perhaps the worst I've seen. Five pieces of cardio equipment jammed into a tiny space. The weight area is the size of a decent closet. Really a disappoinment. The alcohol; the first night we each ordered a glass of chardonnay. Really awful. So at dinner we ordered a bottle of wine each night which we had to pay for. No big deal, but I'm far from a wine snob, and their house wines are not drinkable. The rest of the booze; not "top shelf" under any definition. I did have to come home to taste a decent tequila. Major disappointment. All in all a pretty disappointing trip. In fact we spent $700 to change our flights home two days early and left those two days on the table.
Wow! My husband and I just got back from an amazing two weeks at Dreams Sands. There are so many great things to mention about this place. Number one would be the great service by all the employees we had the good fortune to meet. There are so many but some in particular stood out.
Armando Vega (bartender) at the preferred lounge who greeted everyone by name and who made some amazing drinks for the both of us. He is extremely proud of his family and we spoke with Armando on many topics. He is a very engaging person. Thank you, Armando!
Check in / out by Christopher and Roger (preferred lounge).
The food was very good especially at Olio, Portofino, Himitsu & Bordeaux.
Olio restaurant Captain Jorge, Hostess Paulina (greeted everyone with an amazing smile) & Cristal (her French phrases were extremely funny), servers Ignacio, Delesma, Jonathan, Carmen & Alex.
Portofino - servers Eyder, William, Francesco & Gil. Chef Francisco makes a special every day and his Gnocchi with a tomato sauce (on Monday only) was the best we have ever had. He even made it special for us on our last day as we were leaving on Sunday.
Himitsu - Captain Raul, servers Arturo & Francesco.
Bordeaux - servers Eduardo & Gil
Romantic dinner – Christian
Buffet – servers Arturo & Alberto
The preferred beach area and infinity pool – Sandy (amazing service and very professional) & Manuel
Lobby bar - Laura (extremely generous with her time and very helpful with directions to downtown) and Daniela
Entertainment – Tania (always greeted everyone with a big smile and provided us with the day’s activities)
Bell Boy – Abraham & Martinez
Our room was on the 7th floor and was comfortable if a bit small but who spends time in their room while on holiday. We had a balcony which is important to us especially if staying two weeks (we saw fireworks every evening on the other side of the bay). Not all rooms have balconies. The room was cleaned every day before noon and turndown happened every evening (thank you Santiago).
The resort is probably the cleanest we have ever stayed in. Staff were constantly cleaning all areas. The beach was the best we have ever seen in Mexico (powder white sand, clear warm water that you could walk out into, no seaweed which is a problem in other areas of Mexico over the past few years.
No problem with the quality of the alcohol but it would have been nice to have better house wine as we were not prepared to purchase a bottle (though we did for the romantic dinner and it was very good).
The only comment we would have is that they should really change up the menu a bit at Olio (it was same choices every day and though they were all good, it would have been nice if they had at least one new item each day. We only ate at the buffet 4 or 5 times for breakfast and lunch and it was good.
The pools were warm but did not get sun early in the morning. The weather was really hot so this ended up to be much appreciated after the first week. We did not spend any time at the activity pool as it was really busy and quite loud (some like this but it was not for us).
The resort is in easy walking distance to a flea market and if you are the type to eat off resort, plenty of restaurants.
We apologize if we have misspelled any of the employee’s name but all in all, we would definitely recommend this resort.
The pros: the beach is amazing, you can’t get a better view than this. The staff are extremely accommodating and take pride in helping you! They are always asking if you need anything or how they can make your stay better. The Japanese restaurant and the special occasion foods they have during certain afternoons were great! However, the cons: the other restaurants and poolside food was very average or not good at all. The rooms! The rooms were, what can I say, awful. They are small and are in need of a desperate upgrade. The first room I had was not only small, but worn down. I asked for it to be cleaned, but even after the cleaning it was still awful. I was offered another “preferred room” which was better, but still in need of an upgrade. We didn’t spend too much time in the room, so we ended up staying at the resort. If you plan to enjoy the beach most of the day, then this is the resort for you. If rooming is a deal breaker, then choose a better resort!
This resort is great for the price. The staff was amazing, accommodating, and helpful. Room service was delicious and fast (ordered for breakfast), and other than the elevators being super slow, I have no complaints. Definitely try the Italian restaurant!
