Around 30 minutes north of Cancún’s airport and party-loving Hotel Zone, The Beloved Hotel Playa Mujeres by Excellence Group occupies a sandy patch along quiet Playa Mujeres. It opened as La Amada in 2009, and the rebranding to the Beloved Hotel detached the 109-room property from the neighboring marina, but added an impressive all-inclusive setup. All-white balcony-lined buildings surround the two main pools and landscaped gardens, while meandering trails lead to the two-story Casita blocks and a narrow but crowd-free white sand beach.
Bed and Bath
Spread across three main buildings and clusters of freestanding townhouses, guestrooms share a modern, romantic look in marble white and dashes of lilac. Enormous beds, separate sitting areas and outdoor daybeds encourage lazing, as does a well-stocked, all-inclusive bar. Zippy WiFi, iHome docks and 42-inch flat-screen TVs supply the modern comforts, and there are Nespresso machines for the morning caffeine fix. Part open-plan bathrooms have double vanities, gigantic showers with multiple jets and lovely Bulgari amenities; separate Jacuzzis take center stage in the bedrooms.
Dispelling any fears about all-inclusive dining, the food at Beloved is outstanding. Breakfast at Aroma is the only time you’ll see a buffet, and this one includes authentic Mexican dishes, eggs made to order and kid-friendly options. Poolside Isla Grill (open for breakfast, lunch and dinner) is a casual spot for fresh fish dishes and Caribbean favorites, while beachfront Restaurant El Mar serves up crisp pizzas and tostadas from a wood-fired oven. Hear to the signature restaurant Lupita for the inventive Mexican fare, or pass the time waiting for a table at the outdoor sushi and ceviche lounge just next door. Sybarites will be at home in the cavernous spa, with its 35,000 square feet of space, 14 treatment rooms and indoor/outdoor hydrothermal circuit, or find all the pampering you need beside one of the three pools or on the cabana-lined white sand beach.
In the Area
Flanked by the Caribbean Sea and wildlife-rich wetlands, Playa Mujeres is a playground for nature lovers. Cruise on The Beloved Hotel’s 68-foot catamaran to boho Isla Mujeres’s beautiful beaches, or head to the world’s second largest barrier reef for scuba diving trips and, in the summer months, chance sightings of whale sharks, just offshore. Golfers should book in advance to score a round on the 18-hole Greg Norman–designed Playa Mujeres Golf Club, and culture seekers can explore nearby Mayan archaeological sites at El Meco, Coba, Chichen Itza and Tulum.
How to Get There
I can’t say enough about the people, service, cleanliness, food, drink and so much more. Everyone is keen to ensure you are experiencing the best vacation ever. We are already planning going back next year!
We decided to take a long weekend away to Cancun and wanted to do a higher end all inclusive. Beloved was beautiful, the service was incredible and the food and cocktails were excellent. It’s about a 40 minute taxi ride from Cancun airport. Once we arrived on Friday morning we had no reason to leave the resort until it was time to go home on Sunday afternoon. If I had to knock the place at all it would be that the rooms were kind of dated but they had everything you needed and we felt quite comfortable. We felt extremely safe the entire time and there was no one on the beach trying to sell you anything. We have stayed at other all inclusive resorts and felt Beloved was excellent value.
Beloved is an absolutely beautiful hotel and perfect for a relaxing couples get-away (went for my honeymoon). For an all-inclusive, the food was very good, the drinks were a bit weak but serviceable. There are four restaurants, french, Italian, seafood and steak. All were similar and only lightly themed, but the food was consistent. Would have been nice if there was more/better Mexican cuisine. The staff was uniformly excellent, we went on what we thought would be a busy week and the resort did not feel at all crowded and there were plenty of staff at all times and the staff was very attentive. The beach is lovely and the pools were very pretty. The hotel did have a few activities every day but this is not the place to go if you are looking to be entertained (the excellence resort next door is much larger and has more entertainment). If you are looking for a very relaxing experience without a lot of planning we thought this was a terrific value.
We upgraded our room from one of the detached units to a slightly larger room in the main building. We were told it would have an ocean view but it didn't really. It doesn't really matter though, the property is small and all the rooms will be fine. Probably the rooms in the main buildings that are not a corner would have less light. The "swim-up" rooms are probably not worth it, the pools are easily accessible and we never had trouble finding seating.
It was a very relaxing vacation. Staffs were kind and very professional. We loved their service. Pool and and sea side.
Some features dated like furniture in room, phone, and toilet etc.
Food in restaurant is not impressive. Especially steak restaurant was very dissatisfying. Wifi from the room didnt work.
The quality and service was exceptional! Every staff member (specifically Alberto @ Lupita Lounge, Eduardo (Beach Waiter), and Daniel (Pool Bar)), has a friendly smile and always says, Hola! Cleanliness is top notch. Food is great overall, specifically the fish dishes and guacamole. Steak house wasn't too much to rave about but still pretty good. The Italian restaurant was our favorite. The overall experience was great and for an all inclusive resort I don't think you can do much better.
