Around 30 minutes north of Cancún’s airport and party-loving Hotel Zone, The Beloved Hotel Playa Mujeres by Excellence Group occupies a sandy patch along quiet Playa Mujeres. It opened as La Amada in 2009, and the rebranding to the Beloved Hotel detached the 109-room property from the neighboring marina, but added an impressive all-inclusive setup. All-white balcony-lined buildings surround the two main pools and landscaped gardens, while meandering trails lead to the two-story Casita blocks and a narrow but crowd-free white sand beach.
Bed and Bath
Spread across three main buildings and clusters of freestanding townhouses, guestrooms share a modern, romantic look in marble white and dashes of lilac. Enormous beds, separate sitting areas and outdoor daybeds encourage lazing, as does a well-stocked, all-inclusive bar. Zippy WiFi, iHome docks and 42-inch flat-screen TVs supply the modern comforts, and there are Nespresso machines for the morning caffeine fix. Part open-plan bathrooms have double vanities, gigantic showers with multiple jets and lovely Bulgari amenities; separate Jacuzzis take center stage in the bedrooms.
Dispelling any fears about all-inclusive dining, the food at Beloved is outstanding. Breakfast at Aroma is the only time you’ll see a buffet, and this one includes authentic Mexican dishes, eggs made to order and kid-friendly options. Poolside Isla Grill (open for breakfast, lunch and dinner) is a casual spot for fresh fish dishes and Caribbean favorites, while beachfront Restaurant El Mar serves up crisp pizzas and tostadas from a wood-fired oven. Hear to the signature restaurant Lupita for the inventive Mexican fare, or pass the time waiting for a table at the outdoor sushi and ceviche lounge just next door. Sybarites will be at home in the cavernous spa, with its 35,000 square feet of space, 14 treatment rooms and indoor/outdoor hydrothermal circuit, or find all the pampering you need beside one of the three pools or on the cabana-lined white sand beach.
In the Area
Flanked by the Caribbean Sea and wildlife-rich wetlands, Playa Mujeres is a playground for nature lovers. Cruise on The Beloved Hotel’s 68-foot catamaran to boho Isla Mujeres’s beautiful beaches, or head to the world’s second largest barrier reef for scuba diving trips and, in the summer months, chance sightings of whale sharks, just offshore. Golfers should book in advance to score a round on the 18-hole Greg Norman–designed Playa Mujeres Golf Club, and culture seekers can explore nearby Mayan archaeological sites at El Meco, Coba, Chichen Itza and Tulum.
How to Get There
I wasn’t going to write a review but I'm still waiting for a response to my email sent in MAY (and numerous follow up emails) regarding our stay.
We stayed in Bella 4, 2nd - 12th May 2018, and the room was incredible. Housekeeping were amazing. That's about as good as it got.
Please do not reply to me with an automated standard response. I have already emailed email@example.com and firstname.lastname@example.org MULTIPLE times and would like an actual, considered response. Before we left Paul said he was going to have a meeting with the Food and Beverage Manager about our stay as it was so poor and I would expect to hear the outcome of that meeting.
We celebrated our anniversary here for 7 nights, after finding this place last year
ARRIVAL: Our second visit here. Champagne and cold towel upon arrival, By Jose De Luis. Yes please!
EXTERIOR: Beautiful property, behind a marina. This property is hidden in the brush of greenery. They offer catamaran sailings to Isla Mujeres and snorkeling. We have not tried it, but have heard very good things.
SERVICE: Nothing has changed from the last time. Still over the top, over 5 star service.
ROOM: The room was nice and clean. They had a romantic towel swan decoration spread out with red rose petals all over the bed. The effort they put in the details are what I love.
BEACH: Luis, Oscar and Alex were working the beach bartending. They are so good that several times I never had to order refills.
Beach volleyball was great, Fernando and Javier were managing the activities and they were always very friendly, and always invited you to play.
Jarlin and Jared were working the beach concierge area, They were very friendly, attentive, and as always checked in on you. They cook / BBQ outside, everyday there is something new. Burgers, Tacos, Skewers. yum. You can sit on your beach chair and be entertained by the daily performances on the beach.
POOLS: The swim up bar never gets an uncomfortable kind of crowded, Marcos always takes care of you.
Pools are clean and there are always fresh towels available. I also appreciate all the restrooms being clean.
There are 2 other pools you can get some quiet time at and lay around under a palapa. I do think they should have a pool bartender by these pools. But overall I can’t complain
BARS: Juan at the lobby bar was so nice and always chatted with you like a longtime friend. He makes spectacular drinks
RESTAURANTS/FOOD: Always good. Lose a few pounds before arriving, because you will want to eat everything. The ladies that greet and seat you at the restaurants are very nice. Try the sushi at Lupitas lounge, the steak at Lupitas, the ceviche and the Mahi at Isla Grill. Also, the crepe at Natura is excellent. Room service is perfect!
CHECK OUT: A breeze, quick
BEST PART: The service. Paul is the manager and he is so attentive that he would stop what he was doing to check on us. Even at the beach. This property is obviously very well managed.
Juan at the lobby bar, Luis, Oscar and Alex at the beach, Fernando and Javier at volleyball were all the best, and what makes your vacation spectacular.
We will try Excellence next door, But this is our 2nd visit here and plan to return. Why take a chance anywhere else.
This was my first all-inclusive experience and Beloved went above and beyond my expectations. I attended my friend's wedding and there was about 25 of us in the wedding party. The staff was so nice and attentive. My room was beautiful and the housekeeping staff did a marvelous job of keeping it clean (especially when it came to all the sand that would accumulate on the tile floors!) The availability of room service at any time of the night made sure I did not go to bed hungry which I really appreciated. The beach was so beautiful and relaxing. I have only one small recommendation... stocking condoms. I unexpectedly met a nice, handsome gentleman during my stay and we called the front desk inquiring about condoms, but unfortunately they do not carry them. I think any future rendez-vous would appreciate having the option :)
So it’s taken me a few weeks since returning home to have the time to sit down and write the review this hotel deserves sorry but it’s a long one. We arrived in the Beloved for 8 days as the last part of our Honeymoon, (we had been New York and Florida for the first two weeks) Our travel agent suggested the beloved and I am so glad he did. I didn't have any expectations other then it would be nice quiet and romantic. Oh and when they say 'All Inclusive... my god they mean 'ALL' inclusive.
ARRIVAL - ... Hot lavender bean bags for your shoulders after your long flight and champagne a Relaxed atmosphere and super quick service before you know it your handing the lavender bags back and you are escorted with your luggage by concierge to your room. When we arrived outside our casita ( Carinosa 2) there was a banner across the door which said ~ It's our Honeymoon~ Which was just such a beautiful touch and all around the resort you could see the anniversary, weddings and honeymoon banners which was a lovely to see. Ice/water machine was right outside our door. The water and ice here are filtered and so you don't need to worry about being ill or having a bad tummy upset which was a weight off my mind. The gardens and communal Areas were beautiful, with lovely plants and trees and a few Iguanas which I loved seeing every day. The Gardens were raked and were pristine. Not a leaf out of place. Early morning you can see the gardeners out working hard and doing such a beautiful job.
ROOMS - We entered our room and oh Wow! It was amazing, contemporary with such a beautiful atmosphere and lovely furnishings. The Clean Clean Clean... The Cleanliness at this hotel is second to none you wont find a thing out of place or a speck of dust. The housekeeping Staff are all Amazing at what they do. We had a fully Stocked mini bar area with Ice bucket, straws, mixers, glasses, Coffee Machine, Tea Bags (although if your Irish /English like us these were not the tea you would expect at home and so I was happy I brought some with us.. this was my only complaint which is not really a complaint as its down to individual taste) There was everything you could think of in the Mini bar chocolate, crisps, peanuts and drinks. Usually these resorts have local spirits however not here they had branded names bottles like Jack Daniels. It was restocked everyday too. The layout of the room and the contemporary look was amazing the bed was huge and was decorated with flowers and Towel animals which I loved so much I wouldn't let my new husband use them. There are extra towels in the shower room, Yes I said Room as its as big as my bathroom at home. The Double Sliding Doors opened out onto the terrace with our own private splash pool and beautiful views of the gardens. The room was well equipped with everything you could need for your stay including a beach bag, iron, Safe, Slippers and Robes. Even Beach towels were available in abundance around the resort.
Turn down Service, So turn down service was lovely and we had cake and Sweets every evening which was a lovely touch and thoughtful and much Appreciated once we got back in the evenings. They leave a leaflet with the next day’s activities, weather, a voucher for the spa and a tiny present with literature on it like a Cocoa bean... Which was just a lovely little touch.
POOLS AND BEACH - these like the rest of the hotel are pristine. Beautiful umbrellas and beds and loungers to relax on and when I say relax I mean relax as the staff see to your every need. The minute you walk onto the beach they are ready with towels for you laying them out for you on your chosen loungers. They come around regularly all day in the heat to make sure you are looked after and you want for nothing. The non-motorised activities are all free kayaking, paddle boarding, sailing and snorking. It was great to try new things. We had the lovely and charming Luis for our Week on the beach who seemed to know exactly what we wanted when we wanted it even bringing us Pizza to the beach one day as we mentioned we liked Pizza. He and David from Lupita Lounge were by far my favourite staff members. Always smiling and helpful and bending over backwards to ensure you had a great stay. There are NO bad staff members here All the Staff here are happy smiling people and each and every one with greet you every time they see you. With a good morning or good Evening which is lovely.
MANAGEMENT - Paul Costello the manager was another man who would bend over backwards to ensure you had a lovely time. He obviously loves his job and takes it very seriously. He made himself known to us on day two of our 8 Days, I mentioned to him that the Mini bar was lovely however I only drink Malibu and my husband Dissaronno and as Such we didn’t use the bar in the casita. Within 24hrs the tequila and Rum had been removed and Malibu and Dissaronno were in its place. We were able to then have a drink on our terrace in the evening which was just added to our experience of the hotel. When my husband wasn’t feeling well after an excursion we took Paul was very attentive and looked for ways to make my husband more comfortable.
RESTURANTS – the restaurant here are a la carte unlike European All-inclusive hotels you will rarely find a buffet style dinner here unless they have a themed night which happens a couple of times a week. We attended the Mexican theme night and it was amazing I tried foods that I would never necessarily have ordered from the menu. One of these being tequila prawns it was out of this world. Unfortunately it’s not on any menu in the hotel but all you need do is ask. If there is anything you have a longing for and it’s not listed on a menu ask and you shall receive. They really do not want you to go without. We had a Honeymoon celebratory meal on the beach on one of our nights and it was gorgeous. The service, the food and the setting even the little shell Lined walk way to the dinner area where all amazing. We had our own server Christian who went out of his way to make us feel like the most important people on the plant. Unfortunately that night was a very Still night and as such there were a lot of mosquitos on the beach, this was the only night in 8 nights that we were pestered by mosquitos. Christian was so thoughtful he even brought us a bottle of mozi spray to ensure we were not eaten alive. Due to the Mozi situation Ronaldo, the Manager of El Mar restaurant, Offered us another special meal in his restaurant where the chef would make us anything we wanted … We asked for the tequila Prawns and salmon and it was to die for. We had many many great meals in the various restaurants in the beloved. The Lobster thermador , the steak and not forgetting the Sushi, We eat sushi in London regularly but nothing compares to the sushi in the Beloved. Drinks and Sushi served by David in Lupita Lounge were amazing and twice we opted for sushi and drinks instead of dining in the restaurants. The dress Code for dinner was lovely as so often we go to resorts here in Europe and there is no dress code.
The SPA – We booked a mud and Milk bath couples massage during our stay and I have to say it was worth every penny. The two ladies that pampered us were amazing and I left the Spa feeling energised, Relaxed and ready to take on the world. Go to the Spa treat yourself you won’t be disappointed. The Water therapy is great fun and great feeling if you do it together I could see it being a little boring on your own.
DON’T CHANGE... I have seen comments asking for night life and DJ’s... Don’t… Don’t spoil this beautiful tranquil place. If they want DJ’s and night clubs go to Ibiza. This place is not the party place. 20 Year old me wouldn’t like it here but 38 year old me thinks its absolute Perfection.
THE EXPERIENCE - So as a whole this hotel will not disappoint. It exceeded my expectations by a long way. Its Small, Beautiful, Uber clean, Luxurious and personal. The Staff will ensure you Want for nothing. We have stayed in some nice resorts but none that have had the “draw back” appeal to us…. until now. We have never returned to any resort as we feel the world is a huge place and we would like to see as much of it as possible but this hotel is an exception and we plan to return next year for our Anniversary and I am counting down the days.
I’d like to thank, Paul, Luis, David, James, Christian, Ronaldo and Ingrid for their service and hospitality on our stay you all made it extra special for us.
We've been back for 2-weeks and I'm already thinking about our next trip back. Literally, the perfect resort I never knew I needed. We ventured down to the sister resorts and came running back to ours. From the service on the beach to the amenities and rooms, we wouldn't change a thing.
