Around 30 minutes north of Cancún’s airport and party-loving Hotel Zone, The Beloved Hotel Playa Mujeres by Excellence Group occupies a sandy patch along quiet Playa Mujeres. It opened as La Amada in 2009, and the rebranding to the Beloved Hotel detached the 109-room property from the neighboring marina, but added an impressive all-inclusive setup. All-white balcony-lined buildings surround the two main pools and landscaped gardens, while meandering trails lead to the two-story Casita blocks and a narrow but crowd-free white sand beach.
Bed and Bath
Spread across three main buildings and clusters of freestanding townhouses, guestrooms share a modern, romantic look in marble white and dashes of lilac. Enormous beds, separate sitting areas and outdoor daybeds encourage lazing, as does a well-stocked, all-inclusive bar. Zippy WiFi, iHome docks and 42-inch flat-screen TVs supply the modern comforts, and there are Nespresso machines for the morning caffeine fix. Part open-plan bathrooms have double vanities, gigantic showers with multiple jets and lovely Bulgari amenities; separate Jacuzzis take center stage in the bedrooms.
Dispelling any fears about all-inclusive dining, the food at Beloved is outstanding. Breakfast at Aroma is the only time you’ll see a buffet, and this one includes authentic Mexican dishes, eggs made to order and kid-friendly options. Poolside Isla Grill (open for breakfast, lunch and dinner) is a casual spot for fresh fish dishes and Caribbean favorites, while beachfront Restaurant El Mar serves up crisp pizzas and tostadas from a wood-fired oven. Hear to the signature restaurant Lupita for the inventive Mexican fare, or pass the time waiting for a table at the outdoor sushi and ceviche lounge just next door. Sybarites will be at home in the cavernous spa, with its 35,000 square feet of space, 14 treatment rooms and indoor/outdoor hydrothermal circuit, or find all the pampering you need beside one of the three pools or on the cabana-lined white sand beach.
In the Area
Flanked by the Caribbean Sea and wildlife-rich wetlands, Playa Mujeres is a playground for nature lovers. Cruise on The Beloved Hotel’s 68-foot catamaran to boho Isla Mujeres’s beautiful beaches, or head to the world’s second largest barrier reef for scuba diving trips and, in the summer months, chance sightings of whale sharks, just offshore. Golfers should book in advance to score a round on the 18-hole Greg Norman–designed Playa Mujeres Golf Club, and culture seekers can explore nearby Mayan archaeological sites at El Meco, Coba, Chichen Itza and Tulum.

This boutique all inclusive exceeded all of our expectations. The restaurants were incredible and the resort was quiet without being boring. If you want a relaxing vacation with loved ones, book here.
We were looking for a relaxing getaway vacation, Beloved came highly recommended and lived up to the hype.
The food was delicious at each restaurant, they offered different atmospheres and well curated menus.
Staff throughout the resort from housekeeping, to grounds keepers, spa and guest services were fantastic and made the entire experience very enjoyable. Special mentions to Karla (guest services), Sarah (housekeeping), Eduardo, Felipe and Jesus on the beach, awesome Grasshopper Jesus! ;)
Rooms were very clean with luxury finishes, spacious, well appointed and stocked daily.
We are looking forward to returning to Beloved again soon!
It is our last day at Beloved and although we are going on to explore another area of Mexico, we are sad to be saying goodbye.
This holiday has been exactly what we were looking for and more.
We had high expectations after receiving a recommendation from a friend who leads quite a luxurious lifestyle and we were not disappointed!
Everything really has been perfect.
Our arrival was wonderful after 2 flights to get here. Alejandro checked us in in such a warm and genuine way; instantly making us feel welcome and the champagne and warm heat bags for our shoulders were a lovely touch. José (Mex) showed us to our room and within minutes of meeting these first two members of staff, I knew it was the people that made Beloved magical. What an amazing first impression.
Our room has been wonderful. Somehow, after a 10 day stay here we have never bumped into our housekeeping team even though they enter our room twice a day- ultimate discretion. A real shout out to the housekeeping team- your efforts have not gone unnoticed.
All the staff here at Beloved have made our stay truly, truly wonderful. In particularly I would really like to acknowledge Alex and Eduardo the pool/beach drink servers. It’s been an absolute pleasure getting to know you both. Having genuine conversations with you, getting to know you and hearing about your home life. Authentic conversations. Thank you for being such a memorable part of our experience here. I really hope the management and leadership teams know you are both truly assets to Beloved.
Equally Alfredo, the events manager, THANK YOU. You and your work partner have created a wonderful events line up that has been something out of the ordinary. We have participated in most activities but we really loved all the Mayan rituals, the bike tour and the events hosted by the spa. A really wonderful, well thought out itinerary. We also really loved the Mexican night and I really think this should be a permanent feature if it’s not already (as there is no Mexican restaurant).
The restaurants were great- our favourite was Lupita, the steak restaurant. If I’m being critical I was disappointed by the house wine list. The Merlot and Cabernet were very light wines and probably not the best pairing for the steaks. Perhaps better pairing could be looked at and different restaurants could serve different wines- would’ve been great to see a Bordeaux wine in the French restaurant for example.
As another point also, I do feel the natura bar would benefit from being a regular bar to serve the pools near there or to be a permanent set up for Mexican street food example.
Really nice touch for us to be able to visit the excellence resort next door also. The French restaurant ‘Chez Isabelle’ was amazing. I think we made the right choice staying here though- it was way too busy for us next door.
Finally, thank you to all the teams behind the scenes. From the beach clean up, to garden maintenance, chefs and the vast amount of other teams making Beloved tick like clock work- thank you.
To the management at Beloved, invest in your people and they will invest in your customers. I think you have got this just right. I work in the service industry myself and for a large international brand- it’s been a pleasure to be on the receiving end of such incredible service. THANK YOU :)
