Around 30 minutes north of Cancún’s airport and party-loving Hotel Zone, The Beloved Hotel Playa Mujeres by Excellence Group occupies a sandy patch along quiet Playa Mujeres. It opened as La Amada in 2009, and the rebranding to the Beloved Hotel detached the 109-room property from the neighboring marina, but added an impressive all-inclusive setup. All-white balcony-lined buildings surround the two main pools and landscaped gardens, while meandering trails lead to the two-story Casita blocks and a narrow but crowd-free white sand beach.
Bed and Bath
Spread across three main buildings and clusters of freestanding townhouses, guestrooms share a modern, romantic look in marble white and dashes of lilac. Enormous beds, separate sitting areas and outdoor daybeds encourage lazing, as does a well-stocked, all-inclusive bar. Zippy WiFi, iHome docks and 42-inch flat-screen TVs supply the modern comforts, and there are Nespresso machines for the morning caffeine fix. Part open-plan bathrooms have double vanities, gigantic showers with multiple jets and lovely Bulgari amenities; separate Jacuzzis take center stage in the bedrooms.
Dispelling any fears about all-inclusive dining, the food at Beloved is outstanding. Breakfast at Aroma is the only time you’ll see a buffet, and this one includes authentic Mexican dishes, eggs made to order and kid-friendly options. Poolside Isla Grill (open for breakfast, lunch and dinner) is a casual spot for fresh fish dishes and Caribbean favorites, while beachfront Restaurant El Mar serves up crisp pizzas and tostadas from a wood-fired oven. Hear to the signature restaurant Lupita for the inventive Mexican fare, or pass the time waiting for a table at the outdoor sushi and ceviche lounge just next door. Sybarites will be at home in the cavernous spa, with its 35,000 square feet of space, 14 treatment rooms and indoor/outdoor hydrothermal circuit, or find all the pampering you need beside one of the three pools or on the cabana-lined white sand beach.
In the Area
Flanked by the Caribbean Sea and wildlife-rich wetlands, Playa Mujeres is a playground for nature lovers. Cruise on The Beloved Hotel’s 68-foot catamaran to boho Isla Mujeres’s beautiful beaches, or head to the world’s second largest barrier reef for scuba diving trips and, in the summer months, chance sightings of whale sharks, just offshore. Golfers should book in advance to score a round on the 18-hole Greg Norman–designed Playa Mujeres Golf Club, and culture seekers can explore nearby Mayan archaeological sites at El Meco, Coba, Chichen Itza and Tulum.
How to Get There
Like many other reviews, I don't know where to start to tell how good this hotel is. We went on this trip with our friends and we loved it.
Arrival: We booked our transfers through the hotel and whilst pricey was worth it. After a long flight and a few hours,in the airport getting through customs and picking up our luggage, we made our way out to the pick up to be greeted by the driver with cold water and cold cloths. Just what we needed! The driver was really friendly, passionate about his country and kept us entertained on its history.
We arrived at the hotel to a glass of champagne and another cold cloth. After a pleasant check-in we were escorted to our rooms.
ROOMS: Gorgeous big rooms which were spotless clean and modern. We were in a sea view suite overlooking a pool. We had Champagne on ice and a bowl of fruit waiting to welcome us. We had the best mini bar I've had. Beloved think of everything. There was a selection of spirits, red and white wine, beer and soft drink. The above and beyond for me was there was crisps, nuts and chocolate which was also replenished daily. At the end of the day after being in the sun, we liked to go back to our room, relax on the balcony on the big day bed or in the Jacuzzi with a drink and nibbles. Each night on turn down we came back to plate with a couple of chocolates and tiny cakes. It's the little touches that make this hotel so special.
BEACH: We were made to feel like royalty at the beach. When you go to the beach there a is a concierge (Felipe and Liliana) who got towels and settled you on your lounger. Nothing was,too much trouble for them. Our waiter for the week was Luis who was an utter gem. He remembered our names, attended to all our needs, bringing us food and drinks so that we didn't need to move and expected nothing in return return. He just wanted us to have an amazing time.
FOOD: The food here is mainly a la carte which I liked. The food is fantastic and again nothing is too much trouble. 1st night I mentioned that I didn't like onions, they took note of that and when we ordered we were asked who didn't like onion. My husband is a plain and very fussy eater. This wasn't an issue, they made sure he was accommodated to the extent that Paul Castillo (Guest Service Manager) arranged for fish and chips for him. The staff are amazing. We had fun with Daniel in the steak restaurant who spent time with us and taught us how to make things out of napkins. Karen whiteout great us with a,smile in the morning when we went for breakfast. Each and every one of the staff go above and beyond for you.
ENTERTAINMENT: Low key. There was a white party with a fire show on the beach, a silent disco which was hilarious and also some singers. We liked to relax after dinner with a drink and watch was on that might with the lovely Alberto attending to our needs with a big smile and often a wee dance too.
SPA: The complimentary spa is a must. Please use this as its a fantastic experience.
PAUL CASTILLO: I could have written this review all about Paul. He takes so must pride in his work and this hotel. He ensures that he speaks to all of his guests and not just once, on most days. PAUL spends his day out in the resort ensuring we have everything we need and that we are having an amazing holiday. Nothing is a bother to him. Fish and chips for my husband aS arranged by Paul. The day after the silent disco, my husband had a sore knee dye to too much dancing . We mentioned to Paul who within a couple of minutes had a first aid person to give his knee a rub. PAUL, you are amazing and an asset to your hotel. Thank you, it was,an absolute pleasure to get to know you.
I could go on and on.!! If you are looking at this hotel don't hesitate to book. You will love it and the staff who work there. Each and every one are special people.
It is hard to know where to start so I am not going to reiterate what has been said on this site many times. Beloved is simply fantastic and there was nothing that we didn't like. Therefore, I will highlight the things we specifically enjoyed. May I start by saying that everyone we dealt with ended each conversation with the comment, "Is there anything else that I could do or provide you", and you felt like they really meant it. First, Mexican night and the mariachi band. The band played for 45 minutes or so and they were fantastic. We are not talking 3 guys with a couple instruments, there were at least 8 or 9 and they played and sang their hearts out. It was fantastic. This was a family trip and two of our party had birthdays during our stay. The hotel provided cake in the room for each and when we arrived at the restaurants on the birthday evenings the staff and subsequently the rest of the patrons acknowledged the birthday person with Happy Birthday. Of course, the food and service was superb at every meal, but those nights seemed to receive extra effort. It is very difficult to identify hotel employees that were better than another, because everyone we interacted with was superb. Unfortunately we never met our room attendant or turn down service, but their work was excellent. I will say that our morning breakfast always started with a cheery hello and interaction with Karen and/or Ingrid. Both of these ladies always tried to make us feel at home and recognized us by name when we arrived at the restaurant. The lady who cooked on the beach at noon was one of the hardest working people in difficult/hot conditions. I'm sorry that I didn't get her name, but she was always attentive and prepared excellent mid day snacks for us. Our favorite and most frequently visited bartenders were Daniel at the swim up bar and Juan at the evening lobby/sports bar. Daniel was always friendly and attentive and one day even made palm leave characters for my wife and daughter. He even shared his "special blend" of tequila and habaneros, yum! Juan is probably one of the most gentlemanly individuals I have met in his profession. He was constantly trying to provide us with "over the top" service with a kind and smiling attentiveness that Beloved should be very proud of.
I apologize for those employees that work so hard that I've forgotten to mention. We will be back and I promise to try to do better in learning more of your names. Thank you for a great trip!
Last week of November 2018 marked our 3rd visit to Beloved. We want to return for our fourth...! I’m not a statitician, but if your similar to the rest of the guest visiting Beloved, you will more than likely return.
Once again, during this visit, we were greated at our arrival by Jose de Jesus, who double checked our transportation vehicle to make sure nothing was left behind. A special and thoughtful gesture right from the get go!
Sabas checked us in with a very nice welcome. That first walk through the resort is the best. Feeling at home and seeing all the familiar faces automatically makes you smile and feel giddy and happy and all your stress and worries go “poufff”...gone.
Spent all of our 9 days at the beach. Thank you Felipe and Liliana. Your presence and service was always much appreciated. During our 9 beach days, we had the best beach waiters ever, Eduardo, Luis, Oscar, Alex. We miss you already.
We felt the food was the best so far. Excellent and consistant. Favorite food was Lupita, however, the vibe is was not my favorite. I miss the cozy, romantic ambiance of the old Lupita. I felt it was louder and busy...Claudia and Daniel and Somelier, great job!
Lupita lounge.....still serving the best sushi and drinks. Thanks Alberto and sushi chef, you guys rock! Best night was the silent party, lots of fun.
Isla Grill, your breakfast, lunch and dinners were always very good. Thank you Victor and Angel for helping make our sit down meals the best.
We really enjoyed the new Caffeto. Attended daily! Very good coffee and sweets.
We took advantage of eating at Basmati at EPM. Soooooo good.
We both had the Beloved signature massage.....what a great group of people. They do a great job.
Mr. Diaz, when you consider everything that has taken place at Beloved in 2018, your team has somehow managed to make it better. Hats off to you all.
Nothing is too much trouble at this beautiful hotel . All the staff are unfailingly polite and invariably cheerful . If you had a problem they would go to great lengths to put it right .
Paul Castillo the guest services manager asked us if we had any issues , we mentioned that the white wine in the minibar fridge was not to our taste . He said he would see if there was anything he could do . When we got back to our room there waswas an upmarket bottle of white wine in an ice bucket waiting for us . This happened twice during our stay .
We did have a small issue with the food at the hotel , being a small establishment there were only 3 restaurants open ( one was closed for refurbishment ) and occasionally it was not easy to find something suitable to eat . Quality was never an issue just personal taste . On our last day Adrian at Isla grill , along with the chef arranged a surprise meal combining all the elements they knew we enjoyed the most ,such a lovely gesture which shows the individual and personal level of the service provided .
The rooms , even the entry level ones , are huge , well appointed and have every facility you could want or need .
Beautiful grounds , lovely pools and an amazingly manicured beach .
As I’ve said all the staff were lovely but some who stood out were Jesus and Oscar on the beach , Victor , Adrian , Manolo and Esteban at the Isla grill and Mary at Lupita .
Not a place for young , or not so young , party animals but a place to completely relax and unwind in beautiful and luxurious surroundings . Highly recommended !
Just spent a beautiful week at the Beloved Playa Mujeres
Can't say enough about this resort and the quality of service we received
Beautifully layout with amazing modern rooms and a 30 second walk to the beach
Hats off to the beach concierge Felipe and Lillian who made our stay most enjoyable
Our beach waiter's Luis, Jesus,Oscar, Eduardo you guys are awesome
The hostess at the restaurants Karla, Jennifer... Thanks for greeting with a smile everyday and being so kind and sweet
In the evening we would enjoy our Martini's at the Lupita lounge attentively served by Alberto who never missed a beat. Delicious sushi is also served at the Lupita lounge .. Dragon roll Mmm.. good. All restaurants offer a great selection of local and international food. Our favorite was the Lupita restaurant which served some of the best filet mignon and rib eye I've ever had. We would finish the evening at the lobby bar where we were always greeted with a smile by Juan who served us amazing night caps.
Thank you Paul Castillo, Guest Service Manager for introducing himself to us and making sure all went well during our stay !! You have an amazing Team
Looking forward to returning to Be Loved in the very near future.
