Beaches, golf and nature in one of the Algarve's most prestigious areas, with a suite, breakfast and more
Surrounded by thousands of acres of rolling hills, pine woodlands and wetlands, in the heart of the Algarve’s famous Quinta do Lago golf and residential estate, Monte Da Quinta Resort makes the most of its natural surroundings. With three of Europe's best golf courses, a natural park and nearly two miles of sandy beach on its doorstep, this resort is perfectly positioned for a blissful getaway.
The design is clean, sleek and unfussy, with lots of glass and natural light, while bamboo and green foliage give a sense of the outdoors throughout. Suites are contemporary without being bland – think plenty of white, with subtle graphic prints and earthy shades of mushroom, terracotta and sage. There's an elegant restaurant, a large landscaped pool, a fully equipped spa and gym, plus activities and excursions for the intrepid; unwind with some tennis, horseback riding and bird-watching.
Last but not least, don't forget the golf. Quinta Do Lago South has hosted the Portuguese Open many times, and at the 1st World Golf Awards in 2014 its North Course was awarded Europe’s Best New Golf Course and its South Course named Portugal’s Best Course.
Suites are creatively designed using natural products and artistic touches, and their double doors usher in loads of sunlight and sea salty air. All suites have spacious living areas with a dining table and a fully equipped kitchenette.
The smart-casual Quinta Restaurant offers an international menu and lays on numerous themed evenings showcasing its gastronomic flair. There's an extensive breakfast buffet, with eggs cooked to order, a plethora of fresh baked goods, cheese, cold meats and a snack bar for light or filling choices throughout the day.
The aptly named Magnolia Spa offers a range of rejuvenating treatments in a calm atmosphere. Pick between Comfort Zone face and body treatments, holistic spa experiences, chromotherapy and more. There's also a steam room, sauna, Jacuzzi, a number of special showers, a heated indoor swimming pool, two treatment rooms and a Technogym.
Monte Da Quinta is a 20-minute walk to the fabulous beach, or you could get really back to nature and take a catamaran through Ria Formosa Park, with its pine trees, marshes and salt pans. Faro, the Algarve's capital, is packed full of history, shops, restaurants and entertainment and is only about half an hour away. Other places of note are the quaint fishing port of Olhao, with its white-cubed houses, and the 2,000-year-old ports of Tavira and Albufeira.
