A chic boutique overlooking the St. Lawrence River with a 19th-century maritime warehouse turned restaurant
Three 18th-century buildings and a 17th-century wharf on the St. Lawrence have been transformed into one of Quebec City’s chicest boutique hotels. While it maintains its historical charm, including lofted ceilings, exposed wood beams and even a collection of artifacts unearthed during renovation, the hotel is decidedly modern, blending sleek décor with dark, natural hues. All 95 guestrooms and suites are supremely cozy and many have fireplaces and terraces overlooking the river. Bathrooms are large, with heated floors and massive soaking tubs. Panache is a cherished reservation to savor Chef Louis Pacquelin’s locally sourced organic fare.
In the Area
Award-winning architectural gem Musée de la Civilisation houses a valuable collection that links past, present and future. Also in the Old City district, Petit-Séminaire Chapel features trompe-l’oeil painted walls, ceilings and columns. The chapel’s Second Empire interior resembles the Trinity Church in Paris, with white marble altars, red cherry woodwork and ceramic tiled floors. Located at the site where Samuel de Champlain founded North America’s first permanent French settlement in 1608, historic Place-Royale forms part of the UNESCO World Heritage district of Old Quebec. On the wings of a $380 million investment, the historic St.-Roch district has been revitalized into a vibrant neighborhood with plenty of boutiques, cafés and restaurants.
