How to Get There
Travelled over the long weekend and this was a great place to stay. In walking distance to everything in the area. Lots of cafes around for breakfast, liquor store and grocery store a street over. Rooms were clean, comfortable beds and we had a great view. We faced parliament bldg so there was some street noise but overall a great stay.
I stayed at the Hilton for a high school reunion May 2018. I was with my husband and two of my kids. We stayed in a Junior King Suite. My husband and I slept in a king-sized bed and my kids slept in a hide-a-bed. I have stayed in several suites in my life, and this is a typical arrangement.
The two most favorable things that stuck out to me was that the staff was really friendly. They always seemed glad to help, and I made several requests on a number of issues, so they were really tested!
The other thing is the breakfast. It wasn't some cheap continental breakfast like you get in discount hotels where you pick up a muffin and coffee and run off. It was a buffet in the Allegro restaurant. There was a *wide* variety of breakfast food: Scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, potatoes, pancakes or crepes (they alternated), cereal, oatmeal, cinnamon rolls, little breakfast parfaits, fruit, You Name It. It was worth the price of an upgrade. I have two extremely picky children. This made breakfast easy. And I didn't want coffee, I wanted milk. No problem! The waitress got me a glass a milk. It was great.
The room was nice and large, and I really liked the mini galley kitchen behind a door. It also served as a change room when the bathroom was in use. There is a fridge, a coffee maker and many shelves, but no microwave oven. It can be useful for someone who wants to make his own cereal in the morning.
The bed was really comfortable and I thought the room was very clean and spacious.
On the down side, I thought the furniture was a *little* dated, but I really didn't care that much. It wasn't really ugly, just a bit out of style. Also, the lighting was rather dim, especially in the bathroom-- not very handy when doing make-up. The bathtub was a *little* shallow, but I suspect it was thought of for kids. But the two knob system where you can put the water at the *exact* temperature was great.
I also found there weren't many electrical outlets to recharge tablets and phones. I had to unplug lamps, and that wasn't very convenient to me. I managed, but I think in the future the hotel should think about an electrical upgrade to accommodate families with lots of electronics. And another small complaint-- the clock was not set to the correct hour, which is a bit of a nuisance.
And the Wi-fi is finicky. I finally managed to get it to work on my oldest daughter's tablet, and my phone, but not my youngest daughter's tablet. The problem had to do with me using Chrome browser-- the wi-fi didn't seem to like that.
I named quite a few problems in this review, but in fact, the overall experience was pretty good. The problems I encountered were really minor. When you sleep in a comfortable bed, and the room is clean, and the food is good and the staff is friendly, the rest just seems like petty details. I would recommend a stay at this hotel, especially if small details don't bother you.
Dated rooms but lobby was nice. Central location and the gym was well-equipped. The restaurant/bar seemed to be a fun scene although we did not dine there. I consider this a good hotel for business but not necessarily for couples.
Checking in we ( my sister and I) were greeted by being told that since my father ( the Hilton Honors member who booked the room) wasn’t there (even though my name was also on the booking and I have the same last name/family name!) they would be taking away our access to the executive lounge and our breakfast vouchers. We were also threatened with double the nightly room rate. Not a great start to our week.
So FYI, no breakfast included. We have stayed in Hilton Hotels around the world, and have never had one not have some sort of breakfast included. It’s a small thing, but we found it extremely disappointing.
Then, when we put the “do not disturb” sign on our door so as not to have the room cleaned daily ( just not needed) we were treated like criminals! The staff continued to push notes under the door (EVERYDAY) saying that they reserve the right to come into the room. We had managers knock on the door TWICE ( in four days) to suspiciously check the room.
We were left feeling unwelcome by the Hilton Québec staff and feeling like there was no benefit to being a Hilton Rewards member at all. I would definitely NOT recommend this hotel and we will not be staying with Hilton in the future.
There are so many beautiful hotels and inns in Québec, look elsewhere.
What i liked:
1. Location -- close to the restaurant mile AND very close to old Quebec
2. Service -- It's a Hilton, and a reasonable level of service was delivered. They have some pretty clear standards i think around service, so that continued to hold true.
3. Views -- large windows with great views outside whether it's old Montreal or just the city streets, they were all great!
What i did not like:
3. Aesthetics/look of the hotel -- tired hotel; has seen better days. Even what was once a great breakfast buffett looked like a diner buffett
4. Facilities -- really old bathrooms. Beds were small and narrow and not as comfortable as newer beds.
Considering this Hilton has HIlton prices, i feel you could get a better experience elsewhere.
