How to Get There
It was very easy to walk to the Old Quebec City from here and to get a taxi for excursions. The beds were so comfortable! The view of the city delightful. The room sunny and a pleasure to hang out in.
Great stay, traveled with family. Outdoor heated pool is always a hit with kids. Upgraded to executive floor for view and bigger beds. Room was clean, big enough for 4 ppl, everything was working well. Had issues with wifi but someone came in a matter of minutes and fixed problem. Beds were comfortable but pillows were not. Excellent shower pressure. Customer service was excellent from all. Location is great, close to Vieux Québec, rue St-Jean and short walk to St-Joseph. Parking is expensive so we parked further to save a few $. Hotel is closing end of 2019 for 1 year for renos.
While I hear this hotel will close in early 2020 for a complete makeover, it was already wonderful. The room was clean and modern, and the Executive Lounge on the 23rd Floor for HHonors members was an added bonus. The views of Lower Quebec and the Chateau Frontenac are phenomenal. The hotel is very convenient to walking to so many sites and things to see and do. If you stay at the hotel when there is snow (often), the Rooftop Pool is heated and is a "must-do" outside in the cold weather.
We regularly go to Quebec city but it was our first experience at the Hilton. It is conveniently located near the old part of town making it a short walk to access the fortified city. The pool experience is quite something, being able to swim outdoor in the cold of winter. The entire family loved it. The staff was friendly, they also had nice attention for kids during March break. There is adjacent indoor parking by 3rd party but the ceiling is low so no roof rack equipment is recommended. The drawback was that the lobby restaurant isn't very fancy for dinner meal and the restaurant on the 23rd floor isn't accessible to kids... so we had to dine out.
We stayed here February 13-24 because we had to. First, the positives. The location is awesome, easy to explore Old Quebec on foot. Nice views, and a great indoor/outdoor pool that is warm and open all year. Fun to swim while it snows. Room service was very responsive and polite, and the food was tasty (although very expensive). We highly recommend the room service breakfast - delicious and warm croissants!
The room itself was extremely small. If you need to plug in and charge devices, invest in SEVERAL portable batteries. There was ONE outlet in our room, partially covered by furniture, and ZERO USB ports. Nearly impossible for 3-4 phones, let alone a laptop or two. The bathtub was rusty. The room was generally run down. The comforter, when held up to the light, looked like it was full of mold. Our bathroom mirror came with a steam mirror goblin from previous guests.
The front desk staff was interesting. They openly laughed at Americans speaking French. Most of the valet drivers were helpful and polite, although we had one who was very rude, insisting that I hand him my keys while I was still unloading the car (multiple suitcases and hockey bags requiring multiple trips back and forth), which he didn’t offer to help with either.
Overall, I cannot recommend this rundown hotel. There are other hotels with equally good location for less money and more updated accommodations. This hotel does not rise to the level of a Hilton by any stretch of the imagination.
