A wonderful stay in Montreal
Reviewed 4 days ago

I am family of five from the U.S. (three kids: 12, 12, 8) and we made a trip up north for spring break. We were in Quebec City for two nights and then Montreal. We chose this hotel in Montreal - what a wonderful experience in a great location and a great historic building. We stayed three nights durnig the month of April 2019.

Room quality was top notch and service EXCEEDED that I have received at any luxury hotel in the U.S. that I have had the pleasure to stay at (mostly when lucky enough to stay there for business). One day I had to do some work so I was working in the well decorated library (which is a great room by the way) and they offerred and brought me some coffee. It's the little things and the staff at this hotel seem to be a step ahead of you at every turn.

The hotel is centrally located, the common areas don't get any better. The gym was a little small but certainly serviceable - could see it getting a little crowded if the hotel was at 100% capacity. The concierge and front desk staff were always willing to help and always smiling. The fact that I had somewhat younger children did not ever make me feel uncomfortable about being there or having them there. All the staff went out of their way to welcome them.

The restaurant (albeit a little bit more on the pricey side) is just a beautiful and relaxing place to have a meal (we only did it for breakfast) and the quality is top notch. The bar area is great and well-serviced as well - a good selection of some spirits you can't get in the U.S. (ask the bartender Pierre - he was helpful and on top of things).

I don't have any photos to upload, but I can corroborate that the photos on their website and on TripAdvisor at the time of the publishing of this review do appropriately represent the property in good faith.

I would recommend this hotel and will definitely have it at #1 on my list for booking if I am lucky to go back to Montreal.

Gorgeous old hotel

Gracious, professional staff is the best thing about this lovely old quarter hotel. Rooms are large, overheated, tastefully decorated, with stocked mini fridges, Nespresso machine (not so user-friendly model), nightly turn-down service w/ bottled water. Comfortable bedding, though the mattress sagged a bit. Cable TV extremely limited. Free wifi. Robes/slippers/toiletries provided. Large, well-appointed bathroom. $40 valet parking.

Great staff

Very friendly and helpful staff. Excellent location for the old town. Mattress was very soft, however - would have given me a backache if I stayed longer. Other than that, thouroughly enjoyed my stay.

i always stay at the St. James when I travel to Montreal......old world charm and cozy rooms.

The St. James is close to all the good shops and restaurants in the old city. I love walking down to the river from there and dining in the old town. The bar at the St. James is swanky and they have wonderful cocktails and snacks.

The Coziest Winter Retreat
Reviewed 3 months ago

For my first time to Montreal, during a particularly subarctic week in January--a birthday vacation--Hotel le St James was truly superlative in every sense. The room was delightfully appointed, with quaint wallpaper and cozy beds, and some of the quietest nights I've experienced at any hotel. The library is a fantastic place to do work or have a nightcap, the sauna and steam room provide a warm respite from the bitter cold, and the location is fantastic. But what makes St James a true gem is the dedication of the staff: hotel porters, concierge, housekeeping, wait staff...everyone was kind and helpful. For my birthday, they sent up a fruit plate and cookies, which, though a small gesture, really meant a lot. I can't wait to come back!
