How to Get There
Very friendly and helpful staff. Excellent location for the old town. Mattress was very soft, however - would have given me a backache if I stayed longer. Other than that, thouroughly enjoyed my stay.
The St. James is close to all the good shops and restaurants in the old city. I love walking down to the river from there and dining in the old town. The bar at the St. James is swanky and they have wonderful cocktails and snacks.
For my first time to Montreal, during a particularly subarctic week in January--a birthday vacation--Hotel le St James was truly superlative in every sense. The room was delightfully appointed, with quaint wallpaper and cozy beds, and some of the quietest nights I've experienced at any hotel. The library is a fantastic place to do work or have a nightcap, the sauna and steam room provide a warm respite from the bitter cold, and the location is fantastic. But what makes St James a true gem is the dedication of the staff: hotel porters, concierge, housekeeping, wait staff...everyone was kind and helpful. For my birthday, they sent up a fruit plate and cookies, which, though a small gesture, really meant a lot. I can't wait to come back!
Absolutely loved staying here over Christmas with my husband and dog. Yes, this hotel is pet friendly! There is valet, which we used however, it is quite pricey. If I had known the cost on that, I would have tried to find cheaper parking nearby.
Check in was fairly easy, however there had been an issue with our reservation and we were originally put in the wrong room. They fixed it very quickly, but definitely led to a bit of a hassle with the bags.
We finally found ourselves in a junior suite and it was ornate and lush and beautiful. The soaking tub was amazing! I could have stayed in that for hours. The separate seating area was so nice too - we were able to do our Christmas gifts there! I was disappointed that the room didn’t have a coffee maker, so whenever I wanted coffee I had to call down for it or fetch it from downstairs.
The restaurant in the hotel had very good food, but I thought the menu was a little small. I highly recommend the duck poutine on the room service menu - so yummy!
The WiFi was fast, which was great as we were international.
Finally, as I mentioned, we had our dog with us. The hotel charges a daily fee for pets and we were provided with a dog bed and bowls! Our pup was so happy!
Absolutely loved staying here and would definitely return.
The hotel is beautiful and within walking distance to everywhere. Shopping, site seeing, food, pubs, bistros etc. You can walk everywhere from this location. It is a boutique hotel so there is no huge lobby. It is in an old bank and is quaint with an incredible concierge. There is only one restaurant which can be a problem if there is a function which did happen our first night. They did serve drinks to guests in the library, while the main restaurant/bar was closed. There is a spa on site but not staffed regularly so you have to book ahead of time. It is in an old bank vault which is super cool looking. The rooms are large with a sitting area and large bath. The bed was comfortable and they have a turn down service. One negative is that there is no view since its in the middle of town. The room service was also nice. I would recommend this hotel to anyone that wants to be in an ideal location.
