How to Get There
This hotel is dated, the rooms are not very soundproof, and some of the staff are very unfriendly, bordering on making you feel like a pest. However, the convenient location made me give this hotel an extra star.
Located across the street from Central Station, the Bonaventure metro station (the Orange Line) is just under the hotel, accessible by pedway (as is the Central Station if you don't want to walk outside). The pitfall to this is the pedway from the metro to the hotel is quite deserted after work hours, and there are a few homeless men that hang out by the escalators towards the hotel. You can walk to Old Montreal (about 15-20 min), or hop on the subway as well.
The room is a little dated; things are showing their age. I had a crack in my bathroom ceiling and a light that had burnt out in my bathroom that was never replaced. However, the rooms are not soundproof at all. Everything your neighbors do, you can hear. And I mean EVERYTHING. The beds are very comfortable though, and the blankets keep you nice and toasty. Water takes some time to warm up in the shower. There's a blowdryer in the room. Housekeeping also starts vacuuming at 9am outside your room, so the "Do Not Disturb" sign is moot. I was woken up every morning by the vacuum that I didn't need to set my alarm.
Gym is open 24/7, and well equipped, but poorly maintained. The chest press made a loud squealing sound when used. The disinfecting wipes are not obvious, so wipe your equipment before using.
Heated pool (heated to 30°c) is pretty nice and very popular, especially in the evening. Unfortunately the hot tub was not open during my stay. The pool had quite a bit of sediment at the bottom of the pool and in certain areas, not sure how often the pool gets cleaned, but I swam in it twice and had no issues. Probably not recommended for little ones as the most shallow part of the pool is 4 feet. There are life jackets available and a lifeguard on though.
Concierge was very helpful, but hard to catch. During my 4 day stay, I had only seen him once, but the front desk and doormen are also helpful in providing directions and tips. Would be nice if they'd leave some maps and tourist pamphlets at the concierge desk though.
Free wifi available. Good speed. No connection issues.
Coffee maker and an empty mini fridge is in the room. I didn't find the fridge very cold though.
A microwave is available on each floor in the ice machine room.
Toiletries included: shampoo, conditioner, body wash, bar soap and body lotion.
Call the front desk if you need a robe as they don't leave one in the room.
Beautiful place to stay. A little hard to travel around with all the construction going on, but managed to find after a few wrong turns. Very close to Centre Bell for concert we attended - walking distance. Front desk very helpful. Nice rooms...shower stall had a few mold spots, not otherwise clean. Very quiet.
I have been there for 10 days last November. The hotel is very nice, with large comfortable rooms and good internet access. The heated pool area is awesome, especially when it snows ! Breakfast is good also. Nice location, you can access downtown by underground so it is very helpful especially when the temperature is very low.
A great location for connecting to the train and underground. The bed, pillows and linens add to a perfect bed to rest upon. The year round rooftop pool is a treat for everyone. Just a walk up the hill to the main street. Also connected to a convention center which has great coffee below, skip the chain coffee and go for a Montreal experience that you won't forget.
Great hotel. Just two complaints.
The first is the astronomical price of parking. If you want ‘in and out privileges’ from the parking lot you have to have valet parking at a whopping $39/day!! If you don’t need your car for the duration of your stay it is still steep at $25/day. It would be worth doing some online research to find a more reasonably priced lot in the area.
The second complaint was that they did not shovel the snow off of the walkway from the hotel to the street, even after 2 snowfalls of over an inch each. This seemed neglectful and rather unsafe especially for the elderly or young children.
Otherwise it’s a nice hotel. Very centrally located, decent service and a lovely heated outdoor pool. Wish the water were a litttle warmer, but was -12 Celsius out so perhaps it was as warm as could be expected.
I would stay here again, especially if I fly or take the train to Montreal so that parking is not an issue.
