How to Get There
Stayed at the Alt for business. Been to Montreal many times, first time I have stayed at the Alt. I would certainly stay again. The location was excellent, the service was top notch and the room comfort and layout were excellent.
A 4 day long weekend getaway to Montreal. My husband had to be there for work for part of the trip and I tagged along for the sights. We chose The Alt because it was close to sights and business. It was a 15 minute walk to Crescent Street where there are lively bars and really good Restaurants. It was a 15 minute walk the other direction to Old Montreal which is a great way to spend any day or evening. It is a 15 minute walk to Via if you take the train. About 15 minutes to Catherine st and downtown. The area itself is the Trendy area of Griffintown with shopping and restaurants nearby and fun little cafes to discover. The biggest hurdles were around the massive construction projects going on everywhere, making walking and driving a challenge pretty much everywhere you go. I used the GPS on my phone and it was fine. That has nothing to do with the Hotel though, and I am looking forward to going back one day when the construction is finally done to see the interesting projects completed.
Despite the construction, the Hotel is clean, safe, fresh, comfortable and friendly. The staff were very accommodating. I did not find it noisy at all, inside. I did not notice any noise from other units or from Housekeeping staff in the morning. The room was smallish but fine for two people for 4 days. We had a nespresso machine in our room which was great in the morning. The bathroom was very clean and modern. I had plenty of room to spread out all my stuff. There was no mini fridge, but I didn't miss that too much. You can get ice or snacks, drinks, including alcohol from the front desk. There is a Starbucks attached to the Lobby. The gym was nice. It had everything I needed. You need your Hotel card to make the elevator work, and to make the lights work in the room. This was actually good for me because it helped me keep track of my room card, which I typically misplace at least once during any Hotel stay. I felt safe to explore by walking on my own to the Old Port area and out to find breakfast and shopping in Griffintown.
I would definitely stay here again when visiting Montreal.
My best friend, my teenage daughter, and I stayed at the Alt Hotel in the Griffintown neighborhood. It’s right off the highway. We stayed on the 15th floor and had a great view of Old Montreal. Overall the hotel was nice.
The only quirky thing we noticed were the lights in the room. You had to put your hotel key in this slot on the wall in order to keep the lights in the room and bathroom. I’ve never had to do that before so not sure if this is common.
There is construction going on right across the street so if you’re not a morning person don’t get a room facing the construction.
Excellent location. Right on the bike trail, easy walk to Old Port.
The hotel was great. Beds were very comfortable. Nespresso in the room for morning coffee, or all kinds of coffee specialties in the lobby.
The 7th floor has a great place to gather with friends.. Great location!
My daughter and I spent the May long weekend in Montreal and stayed at the Alt for three nights. We were welcomed by a very friendly, polite staff member who allowed us to check in at 11:00 a.m. The flexible check-in/check-out time is fantastic as we were not leaving until the early evening of our departure day. The bedroom and bathroom were extremely clean, modern and like-new. The beds were super comfortable; the bathroom spacious. Nice shower/tub combo. No bar fridge to keep personal drinks/snacks cold but we used the ice machine and ice bucket to do the trick. There is a Starbucks right next door as well as 2-3 restaurants that are easy to access without leaving the hotel. Walking distance to a grocery store, other small shops (like Winners!), and restaurants. Easy access to bus routes so you can easily get around town. Lovely lobby to sit in, spend time socializing and have a drink. I also liked the security of the building. You cannot move beyond the ground level/main floor without an active room key which is used when you enter the elevator. Overall, no complaints and would definitely return.
