How to Get There
I love this modern look comfortable hotel. Staff is very polite and helpful. close to all services at the heart of the city. I recommend strongly. Clean and quiet. Breakfast and restaurants are of great quality and taste.
It was our first experience with Alt Hotel. We were staying in Montreal for a private event located in the Red Burgundy not too far from Griffintown. So, we wanted a place where we could easily walk to our event or at least, be located near the Metro. This Hotel did not only met our requirement, it also had other unneglectable aspects: a) for those with an electric car, you have free access to a charging station located in the basement, free of charge, only accessible to you with a key from the front desk – something we were pleased to enjoy; b) the hotel offers a package for parking and breakfast at La Boîte à Pain… a great local business to discover located a block from the Hotel (see my separate review for it); c) located at walking distance from local attractions, well-known spots and the Metro; d) reasonable night rates; and, e) very quiet. Our room was located in the higher floor, corner unit with a great view! Décor is minimalist with ultra-modern look… in fact, the chair near the window isn’t very comfortable but it fits perfectly with the overall look of the room. And besides… we spent our times mostly discovering the area than staying in our Hotel room. The only thing I wish they had is a secure safe in the room, although we did not have any problems during our stay. If you prefer to dine in, you could do so at the restaurant located on the main floor. As we wanted to experience local restaurants, we decided to try “Makro” a top-rated seafood restaurant located a few blocks from the Hotel (see my separate review for it). I have not added pictures of this Hotel as most of my shots are identical to what you already see in previous reviews. However, we will be gladly trying other Alt Hotels and can’t wait for discovering one of those located at DIX30!
Alt Griffintown is a great way to immerse yourself in one of Montreal's re-emerging neighbourhoods on the edge of Old Montreal. We enjoyed a quick stay there with views of the condo explosion immediately surrounding the hotel as well as the towers of downtown Montreal beyond. There is a Starbucks in the building for your morning jolt as well as a bright sunny Coco Loco (I think this is the name) for breakfast brunch or lunch.
Alternatives are within a block or two. Quality rooms with solid construction means a quiet night's sleep. Excellent value, too!
This hotel is situated in a bustling neighborhood very close to the St. Lawrence River Canal. It has a parking garage underneath the building which made it very convenient. The garage even had an EV charging station, which we used compliments of the hotel.
It was a short walk to the canal and a pleasant stroll along it to the Old Port. Even at night in this big city, I felt safer than I would have in any other large city in the US. It is a city that has something for every age or culture. I regret not having made the trip there sooner.
Back to the hotel- it was exceptionally clean and looked like it was newly renovated. There are 3 restaurants right in the hotel first floor which are accessible to street traffic also. Everyone was polite and helpful. I found it interesting that when the staff talked to us, they spoke in English, but when they talked to each other, they spoke in French. There was no problem with a language barrier in the hotel or anywhere we went in the city. The room wass designed to take advantage of every inch of space, as it was on the small side. But 12 foot ceilings made it feel larger than it was. The furniture was modern and minimalist, but it had all the basics that we needed to be comfortable in. I especially liked the bathroom with its floor to ceiling exotic wood doors, a very large glass shower, which had one wall of glass that was visible to the other side of the bedroom.
The hotel has 18 floors, with only floors 8 thru 18 available for hotel guests. The lower floors are apartments. This is great if you want a view of the city, but if you have a problem with elevators like I do, this should not be your first choice.
I use a wheelchair and needed a wheelchair accessible room with two queen beds. The ALT was one of the few hotels that I liked from the pictures and had what we needed. It ended up being a great choice for our five night stay in Montreal.
The room (619) was laid out well for my wheelchair, and I love staying in new hotels - they have plenty of places to plug in your electronics next to the bed, there is a low part of the desk where you can put your bag, there was plenty of storage space (a drawer under the bed, two closets). The sink had space to put your toiletries. It was quiet, easy to control the room temperature (though I do wish we could have opened a window), and I loved the floor to ceiling window. We appreciated the free wifi.
A couple of drawbacks - the toilet lid would not stay open. The roll in shower allowed water to spray on the floor, so we had to mop it up with a towel.
The front desk staff were friendly and helpful.
Thought the hotel is not in old Montreal, we love to wander, and we didn't mind the 10-15 minute walk by the canal to get to the heart of Old Montreal. I highly recommend a walk or bike ride along the canal!
There is a great bakery around the corner for breakfast (La Bete a Pain), and some great restaurants not too far away to the south west (La Fantome was amazing), and of course all of Old Montreal to the north east.
We had our car, and paid the $26 to park in the hotel garage, which was very convenient. We look forward to coming back one day; thank you ALT Griffintown!
