How to Get There
After much plotting, between my brother in law and myself, l arranged a secret visit to Hoi An to surprise my sister for her birthday.
After a two previous visits, and making a number of good friends, l selected the River Orchid Garden Riverside Hotel.
While other hotels that l’ve stayed at have been great, the one problem has always been that there tends to be a fair bit of noise.
Not at the hotels themselves, but outside.
Sometimes it’s traffic, on my previous visit in September, it was a dog barking all night at a nearby house.
But at the ‘Orchid Garden’, it was an oasis of peace.
Away from the street, it’s a lovely hotel with great rooms and fabulous service.
The staff are wonderful, always friendly and chatty, and with a wealth of knowledge that makes finding anything you need a breeze.
A wonderful breakfast at no charge, you get ample amounts of great food to keep you going until lunchtime!
My trip was a short one, for me, at two weeks.
I had a week there on my own, and my sister came the following weekend.
On learning of my plan, the staff were really excited for me.
One l already knew from my last two visits from other hotels, and between her and the rest off the staff, they helped me set up a raft of activities for us to do.
They pampered me for my first week and, when my sister arrived, regaled her with stories of my exploits!
They arranged boat trips at a fraction of the cost that it would be, if l had booked them myself.
They got us motorcycles and layed out a number of trips out of town, and into the countryside.
They clearly took great pleasure in making our trip as memorable as possible, apparently for them, as much as for us!
I will be heading back in September and will be staying here again for that visit.
I cannot recommend the Orchid Garden’ enough.
Just don’t all come when l’m there, please 😊!
We stayed here for five nights but would definitely have stayed longer if we could. We got a great deal on the accommodation, around A$25 per night, but had to pay additional for the breakfast. The room was spacious and contained everything we needed - the Bath was huge and there was even an external shower behind the Chalet.
Located about 1km from the Ancient Town but right near the end of the River Walk with plenty of good eating options nearby.
We are keen to return!
We had 4 nights here and it was nice to break up our trip with a bit of relaxation time. Very friendly welcome and given a fresh juice and banana pancake then shown to our room. A/C was working very well so we mentioned it on our way to dinner, when we came back it had been sorted. Room was large and the bath was fab, lovely to soak in at the end of the day. We had breakfast there twice which was very good. It is a good 20 minute walk to the old town so we walked in twice and then got a taxi in twice (reception will book one). Large comfy bed and the pool area was fab, very calming, good WiFi everywhere and no problem getting a taxi back after dinner in the old town - taxi’s are at the opposite end to the central market.
We stayed for a week, and this was the best hotel experience I have had so far on my travels through Vietnam! Li took great care of us, giving tips for bargaining, what tailors to visit, and where to eat. She also arranged a couple of day trips to our needs, arranged to ship things home, scheduled drivers, and provided many other services. The staff at this hotel are very friendly and helpful. The food is also excellent (breakfast was included)--be sure to try the pho. The location is great, on the riverfront with an easy walk or bike ride into town, but far enough away to be quiet and less touristy. The hotel has a lot of character and a beautiful pool area surrounded by tropical plants! It is a 25 minute bike ride to the beach, if you feel comfortable riding in traffic. Our room was clean and the bathroom and bedroom were large. Water pressure was low and temperature difficult to regulate. Towels and sheets were thin. But those things are not important to us--just noting them in case they are important to others. I would stay here again and recommended this hotel to my sister. Loved my time here!
This was one of our favorite hotels during our trip to Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam. Located along a quiet section of the riverside (barring the occasional karaoke at a nearby restaurant that stops at 10pm), it was a little oasis of calm in our hectic travels. You are greeted with friendly smiles each time you enter the property and the staff are ready to help with anything you need. Our check in went smoothly and the cool fruit drink and banana pancake offered at check in was a nice touch.
Keep in mind there are no elevators so if you have problems with stairs you will want to request a ground floor room. Our room was on the top floor (third floor) which we loved because it gave us just a bit more peace and quiet (although we did find we could hear our neighbors a little through the walls). We also liked the reusable glass bottles they provide of purified water each day. Each room has a safe and mini fridge. I found the rooms to be clean and tidy; housekeeping changed our towels each day. Water pressure was not the highest in the shower but decent enough.
Loved the breakfast each morning (included in our room rate) - I particularly enjoyed working my way through the menu of Vietnamese specialties (while my husband had the western breakfast options) and the plate of fresh fruit each morning was refreshing.
It was a nice leisurely 25 minute stroll by the river to the center of town but we did avail ourselves of the free bicycles to speed up the journey during the heat of the day. We enjoyed the view into the local lifestyle as we passed by several restaurants filled with local families kicking back at the end of the day.
Would love to go back to Hoi An and stay at the Villa Orchid Garden again!
