A leading five-star resort on the edge of Hoi An’s ancient old town, including a suite and breakfast

The Lowdown

Often considered Vietnam’s most charming ancient town, Hoi An is full of beautifully preserved houses that reflect a myriad of cultural influences, from China and Japan to France. The whole place is UNESCO World Heritage protected and has a mellow, artistic flavor, many of its historic buildings having been converted into galleries and cafés. Such a romantic and intriguing destination warrants a suitably elegant base, and you’d be hard-pressed to find a better one than La Siesta Resort & Spa.
Set just outside the old town, overlooking green rice fields, the property is a peaceful sanctuary, with exceptional five-star facilities. Among the highlights are a freshwater pool, lined by cabanas and loungers, plus a soothing saltwater alternative, a must-visit spa and two relaxed restaurants. You can borrow a red Japanese postman-style bicycle to ride about in the local village lanes and in Hoi An – though your outings won’t just be of the cultural variety. The resort also runs a scheduled shuttle service to golden An Bang beach and reserves an exclusive section of the sands.

Veranda suites are located in the east wing, a terrace of eight traditional-style townhouse villas. Decked out with period furnishings, traditional floor tiles and four-poster beds with a hoop canopies, they’re among the most romantic rooms in the resort. Expect about 592 square feet, equivalent to a junior suite, that includes a large bathroom with a private sauna, an herbal bathtub and separate rainforest shower. There’s also a furnished pool-view porch to the front and a shared garden area at the back.

There are two restaurants at La Siesta Resort & Spa. Fine-dining option The Temple proffers a modern-fusion menu, bringing together European and Asian flavors. Alternatively, Red Bean walks you through Vietnam’s most iconic dishes, as well as local specialties from the Quang Nam province. For drinks, there’s the poolside Feliz Bar, open till late.

La Siesta Spa is situated in dedicated villas within the east wing. Home to four treatment rooms, linked by wooden walkways in tropical gardens, it features saunas, barrel-essence bathtubs and a Jacuzzi.

A scheduled shuttle service runs to the old town and to An Bang beach, where an area with loungers and towels is set aside for you and other guests. You might also consider riding a postman-style bike along rice fields, and visiting the UNESCO World Heritage-protected old town is a must. The staff can set up such excursions as cocktail demonstrations and cooking classes.

Fabulous stay with amazing staff

The hotel is situated a twenty minute walk outside of the centre of Hoi An, and there is a shuttle bus or numerous taxis if you do not want to walk. Everything about our stay was perfect. There were welcome refreshments at check in, provision of umbrellas when it rains, fabulous food in the restaurant and staff that are friendly, informative and genuinely seem to want you to have the best experience ever. It enhanced our holiday to have conversations with many of the staff imparting their knowledge of the local area and giving insights into the Vietnamese culture and recommendations on Vietnamese food.

The pools were lovely and clean and rooms were spotless and well furnished. Every day there was a happy hour which was well advertised and the staff would remember your preferred drinks.

Cant wait to return to this resort and hotel.

A hotel of 2 halves 1 of which is much more well appointed than the other.

I think I might be in a bit of an unusual position in that I stayed in both parts of this hotel. Firstly the good points irrespective of your room/unit. The staff are warm and welcoming, very attentive and delightfully keen to make sure your stay is perfect. Everything from remembering the way you like your morning coffee to, in my case, moving to a room more in line with expectations. So my tale involves being on the 5th floor of the main block through which all guests enter. I was expecting a superior double room with a balcony. I have to say the room was not superior and the balcony was a glassed in small enclosure overlooking the entrance. Take a look at the photo used in their marketing... this is not where my first room was situated. Now I had just stayed in La Siesta in Hanoi - Classic, I have written a review about them. That room was similar, small and with the most minuscule bathroom ever, however that was a city centre hotel, step out the door and everything was on your doorstep, frankly sacrificing space for convenience was my choice. La Siesta in Hoi An is 1 km from the old city gate. So next morning sitting in the gardens with rooms that obviously had balconies overlooking the grounds and pool I inquired if there were any of these rooms available. By mid afternoon I had no response so I contacted my travel agent to see if they could get any joy. Well, again my expectations were not met, this time they were far exceeded. Suffice to say I was offered a choice of rooms, in different units, both with balconies. Uyen, one of the customer services managers went out of her way to make sure I was happy with the new room, showing me round and apologising all the while for the initial room. So, if you are in the tall block which is also the reception, your room may overlook the street and your balcony will be glassed in to reduce noise I suspect. Rooms on the back of that block overlook one of the 2 pools and it is the quieter of the pools. If you move to a room in the unit you see on the marketing pictures, they are much bigger and overlook the larger pool, which is noisier and busier. In both cases the buffet breakfast is very good although served in 2 different restaurants. Happy hour is widely promoted and staff do recall your last cocktail and how you like it. The shuttle bus runs into town periodically but I enjoyed the walk and Hoi An is not huge so even on my most adventurous day I only walked about 8 kms.

Beautiful place full of amazing people

Another wonderful destination. The hotel was pretty, rooms were big, food was delicious and people were very friendly. It almost felt like we had an entire staff of individuals dedicated to ensuring we had a good time. We enjoyed the diverse complimentary breakfast with fresh juices, and even tried the restaurant on our first night when we arrived late. The food was delicious! Everyone in the hotel was friendly and interested in what we were looking to do in the city. They were more than happy to help or point us in the right direction as needed. Great location I'd certainly recommend.

Add a day or two more here ... trust me

We pulled into Hoi An after a very long day that started at 4 AM in the Mekong and ended at La Siesta. The check in was lovely. Linh could see we were tired and welcomed us graciously and led us to our Veranda suite beside the pool in the Club Wing (recommended). We were wowed! The tropical garden surrounds a gorgeous pool. Our room was so well planned too. Just ideal.

This was the setting for all our breakfast and our dinner at Temple Restaurant - on the patio ... with the big day bed swings. Tam (and her colleagues) made every meal special. Amazing!

But the best part is the staff. What lovely, caring, genuine people. It's Four Seasons-level service. Every guest we chatted with said the same thing.

Btw, if you've read that An Bang beach is so-so. Not so! It's beautiful. We rode our bikes there, had an amazing seafood lunch and swam in the sea. Perfect.

We were so sad to leave. Next time we'll stay longer.

Thank you to everyone at La Siesta for making us feel so welcome.

Quiet location with great customer service

Excellent resort hotel with a personal touch. We liked the quiet location about 1km from central Hoi An. The hotel shuttle bus provides convenient transportation into central Hoi An. Wonderful breakfast is included, very nice swimming pool, great happy hour drink specials. Particularly impressive was the consistently high level of customer service and helpfulness among all the hotel personnel.
