How to Get There
We stayed for a week in club rooms which offered club lounge access. The Club lounge is a great facility and the team in it were brilliant. Helpful, engaging and attentive. The club rooms are clean, spacious and quiet. We were kindly upgraded to a suite and it was perfect. Breakfast in the lounge was good as was all of the food service. The indoor pool was rather dark and dreary and the outside pool looked a little unkempt. The beach area is dreadful. There are no beach sports and the beach is over a bridge and is a manmade strip of clay/sand not worth bothering with. The gym was great. We normally stay in the St Regis and had decided on the Ritz Carlton for a change. It was a pleasant experience but I am not sure if we would rebook next year.
Booked this hotel for family holiday. Judging from the website pics we chose it for what looked like a fab pool area. Can’t tell you how shocked & disappointed we were! Very shabby, outdated, terrible loungers, no attention/money/time has been spent on this element of the hotel. The website pictures do not represent it in any way shape of form. So please do beware if you are looking for this as a big part of your stay. I walked out to the pool area & walked straight back in. It was depressingly bad. Went to the breakfast area to try & gather our thoughts about what we should do, only to find this again was just dreadful. Coffee machine not working, no one to ask for help, no glasses for juice, tables dirty...it was like being in a school canteen. No way is either the pool or breakfast area, 5 star, they would struggle to gain 2 stars, if that. Terrible.
I headed straight to the concierge so that they might help relocate us to a different hotel immediately.
Luckily & thankfully, this is where I encountered the most wonderful customer service I think I have ever received! - And we travel to 5 star hotels all around the world, so this is indeed a huge compliment. Firstly, Shaheena, who when we told her we wanted to move, was clearly & genuinely concerned. She asked us to give her a short time to speak with her manager. We then had the pleasure of being dealt with by Soley & Kerry. These two ladies were totally amazing. True professionals, who worked so hard & smart to work things out for us. And they did. We were moved within half an hour! To Sharq Village. Great. Just what we wanted. A resort not a corporate hotel.
I am truly both blown away & Indebted to the staff I mention. They turned what looked like being a disastrous situation into a fantastic outcome.
Thank you ladies.
It was a really good start for me and my family on that day. All thanks to the great server, Gaurav. It is very important to be treated from morning with warm smile and fantastic service cause it will affect on all your day! Great !
Btw, they have an amazing selection for breakfast. Must try their pancakes and waffles!
Will go there again!
It is clear to see how the standards have deteriorated since my last visit 24 months ago, presumably driven by cost cutting initiatives. Weeds by the pools, filthy dirty paths on way to beach, dirty shower, children running around pool area, smoking and spitting with less staff to control that environment, fire alarms going off in the middle of the night twice during our 10 day stay, no turndown service on 4 of our 10 night stay. All issues raised with senior management during stay but no resolution or feedback during or since my stay which is particularly disappointing. A star each for the wonderful club room and staff and for the excellent, recently refurbished gym.
Stayed from April 5-8th 2019
Had the club lounge access - cannot recommend enough!! 100% worth it!
*Club lounge: 5/5 (Arguably 6/5)
-Service was unbelievable. So attentive to every need and request. Staff constantly making sure your experience is perfect. Special thanks to Vishnu who was super attentive and professional. Also special thanks to Shafini/Chafini who made sure my grandmother (who had a cold) was looked after like her own family member!!
-Food pretty much available all the time and they catered well for our dietary requirements (vegetarian). Alcohol from 11am to 10pm.
- Afternoon tea was great
- Decor was superb, very classy and elegant. Never issue with seating for us. Also clean bathrooms.
- Could have more selection of red wine
* Swimming pool 3/5
2 pools. One indoor and one outdoor. Unfortunately completely filled with children and teenagers. Lifeguards present but don't seem to have any control with constant whilst blowing that doesn't seem to work.
The indoor pool has 3 lanes.. Which you can't use because there are children jumping in. I understand children need to have fun but this is definitely at the expense of guests who want a bit of relaxation. Disappointed there wasn't an adults only area. No pool side service was offered in the 3 times we were by the pool.
Nice waterfall in the middle of the pool but I feel a 5* hotel needs a 5* pool and this definitely falls short.
* Breakfast 4/5
- Good selection of food with Western and Middle Eastern
- Can order eggs via the waiter so the chef isn't disturbed constantly
- Service generally good
- Seating outside are very substandard (wooden benches with no pillows or back support)
- Can get extremely busy with many children running around not attended
- Unable to make crepes on request
* Room 5/5
Club room on 19th floor, spacious with good view. Excellent bathroom and fine decor
* Gym 5/5
Fantastic gym, good view, a good range of good quality equipment. Personal training available for additional cost. Clean changing area with separated steam and sauna for M & F.
Overall 4-4.5/5. Overall still not as good as some of the other Ritz we've stayed in. If they sort the pool situation out they can definitely be up there.
Best part of hotel was the club lounge and in particular the service there!
