The Shangri-La brand’s first hotel in Qatar is a luxe high-rise that offers stunning views of Doha’s futuristic skyline. From the opulent lobby, which features marble columns and a glittering chandelier, to the seven drinking and dining options, this 272-room property offers all the hallmarks you’d expect from these experts in high-end hospitality. Starting at 500 square feet, the guestrooms are some of the largest in the city, and they feature free WiFi, 47-inch TVs, tea- and coffeemaking facilities, pillow menus and signature Shangri-La beds that use body contouring technology. Kick back by the pool (be sure to take advantage of the swim-up bar) or indulge in a treatment at CHI, The Spa. The dining options include Fuego for Argentine steaks and South American wines, Sridan for Middle Eastern specialties served at food stations modeled on an Arabian souk, and Yabby for seafood from the Arabian Gulf. Enjoy a nightcap at The Den, a wood-paneled piano bar, or head up to the hotel’s top floors to dance and drink at the Shanghai Club.
In the Area
The hotel is located between the City Center Mall (including direct links) and the Convention Center, a 20-minute drive from the airport and a short drive from top sights, including the Grand Mosque and Dhow Harbor. Check out the Museum of Islamic Art, the Al Koot Fort and the artificial island, the Pearl. Pick up souveniors at Souq Waqif, which translates as “standing market,” or head to the Gold Souk to shop for jewels.
How to Get There
Stayed here for a weeks vacation, great room, spacious, clean and big well appointed bathroom.
The staff were mostly very friendly and helpful.
We stayed in a horizon club room and enjoyed the lounge and all the benefits that came with it, the lounge itself was great, plenty of space with comfy sofas as well as more formal eating area. Good selection of drinks and canapés in the evenings.
Because of all of the above this would have been a five star rating however we were staying here for a vacation and spent a lot of time by the pool, also a beautiful space but sadly every afternoon many nannies arrived with their charges and dominated the area and often meant that the poolside restroom facilities were left well below shangri la standard. On one afternoon there was 37 children in the pool!
i went to the hotel for a snack over the swimming pool and we were served by Masuid Who was really helpful and very cooperative when it comes to provide explanations on the dishes listed on the menu or even suggesting to us some small bites. My experience was very good due to the fact that the place is quiet and neat.
Visited here on business and it was in a great location in the heart of the City. Excellent service by the staff and decent food. I had a swim and sauna in the pool which was nice overlooking the City. I would use this hotel again.
Stayed here for a week at new year. Service was what would be expected of a Shangri La hotel found the food to be good and made very good use of the club lounge for drinks canapes and breakfast. Rooms were good and beds very comfortable.
The pool is heated and was like bath water.
The hotel has very good wheelchair access throughout.
Having stayed at other Shangri La's and reading reviews I had high expectations, but not quite so. Firstly all of the staff encountered were extremely polite, helpful and pleasant, exceeded expectations.
Upon an early arrival, we checked into our room, we paid for early check in, after waiting 30 minutes for our bags to be delivered, they had not shown up, so as we went to the breakfast on the Club floor we advised the receptionist there that our bags had yet to be delivered could they follow up and have them delivered whilst at breakfast. Finished breakfast back to room, no bags, this is now 1 1/4 hrs after arrival, so another call, and finally bags arrived.
The internet in the room was substandard, worked only part of the time, very slow as well. So call to guest service to be told that they checked and there is nothing wrong, I said its not working in my room. Someone did attend, yes it worked for a while, but then went adhoc slow and cease to work. A IT tech checked it out on Sunday (3rd day), following that we had generally reasonable internet, not great, just reasonable.
The Club room was very spacious, and decent breakfast served. We found the evening happy hour drinks list was very minimal, compared with other Club lounges, only spirits provided was vodka and tequila. The service was very good as were the snacks provided.
