Luxe high-rise overlooking the Arabian Gulf with huge rooms, seven dining options and a swim-up bar

The Lowdown

The Shangri-La brand’s first hotel in Qatar is a luxe high-rise that offers stunning views of Doha’s futuristic skyline. From the opulent lobby, which features marble columns and a glittering chandelier, to the seven drinking and dining options, this 272-room property offers all the hallmarks you’d expect from these experts in high-end hospitality. Starting at 500 square feet, the guestrooms are some of the largest in the city, and they feature free WiFi, 47-inch TVs, tea- and coffeemaking facilities, pillow menus and signature Shangri-La beds that use body contouring technology. Kick back by the pool (be sure to take advantage of the swim-up bar) or indulge in a treatment at CHI, The Spa. The dining options include Fuego for Argentine steaks and South American wines, Sridan for Middle Eastern specialties served at food stations modeled on an Arabian souk, and Yabby for seafood from the Arabian Gulf. Enjoy a nightcap at The Den, a wood-paneled piano bar, or head up to the hotel’s top floors to dance and drink at the Shanghai Club.

In the Area

The hotel is located between the City Center Mall (including direct links) and the Convention Center, a 20-minute drive from the airport and a short drive from top sights, including the Grand Mosque and Dhow Harbor. Check out the Museum of Islamic Art, the Al Koot Fort and the artificial island, the Pearl. Pick up souveniors at Souq Waqif, which translates as “standing market,” or head to the Gold Souk to shop for jewels.

Brilliant service but minor issues.
Reviewed 5 days ago

We stayed at this hotel following the end of Eid holidays. The service from staff was impeccable and the concierge Mark was extremely helpful and well knowledgeable. The hotel was a nice escape from the burning heat of Doha. The hotel room had all the essentials and was clean and had a great view of the city side of Doha.

In terms of minor issues, when we arrived at the room the TV was non-functional and a repair man had to come and fix it. Additionally the toilet was continuously flushing which also required a fix. There didn't appear to be any "guide book" often provided with the room that lists things like restaurants on-site and the Spa/pool facilities so we had to ask the concierge. Although not an aspect the mariott itself can control, but none of the taxi drivers seemed to know the hotel, and many uber drivers were also confused. Additionally there was menu for the mini-bar fridge which was in-fact empty. When we asked about this we were told we had to specifically request items if we wanted them which is unusual for a 5-star hotel.

Been there twice for suhoor, the tent was nicely decorated, the food selection was up to my expectations (loved the duck) staff were friendly and attentive.
The second time I booked to watch the CL final, I requested a table near to the screen and they made it as requested.
All well !!

My best non-beachfront hotel in Doha
Reviewed 5 days ago

I looove every inch of this hotel (used to be Shangri la Doha, now called JW Marriott). Stayed here during my birthday weekend with the family. What I liked most is the pool, it's a decent size and worked best for us with kids. Overall the pool is not very deep (I am 5 ft 3in) so we can easily get around with kids. They also have life vests which my 3yo toddler borrowed for free. There are small packet areas in the pool, which can easily give your family your own little space. There is a nice, although small, swim up pool bar and a small jaccuzi by the side of the pool. The best thing about this hotel for me is the location, it is in the centre of the city. It is attached to City Centre mall which is attached to two other hotels. Also nearby are other hotels within 2-3 min drive.

This is going to be my go-to hotel from now on. I feel like it is worth my money as we are able to use the pool even in the morning, from 8-1130 am. If you haven't been to Doha or in the middle east, then you will never understand how important it is to have shade in your pool. It was extremely hot when we stayed here, like 30-33deg C but because of tall buildings surrounding this hotel, the pool is shady all morning! Plenty of fun times with the kids, and dont forget to be a Bonvoy member to enjoy amazing discounts :)

We will definitely come back!

never stay during Ramadam
Reviewed 5 days ago

booked a club executive room for 1 night stopover between Amsterdam and Adelaide. thought we would treat ouselves and be able to utililse the club facililties until we needed to go to the airport...........how wrong we were! it was Ramadam and were told the club facilities were closed. we could however use the 2nd floor dining area instead....very poor ....didnt know there were cake & nibbles until saw someone walk back with a plate of things to eat. was way up at the end of the dining area out of site. although we paid full price for the privilege of the club room we were not offered any discount because of it being closed. of course all other eateries or coffee shops in the shopping mall were closed as well..............will never return, very unhappy with our experience.

Blissful afternoon at Quan Spa (formerly Chi)
Reviewed 1 week ago

In recent months the Shangri-La Hotel in Doha’s West Bay has been rebranded to JW Marriott Marquis. As a result the beautiful Chi Spa (part of Shangri-La) has also changed its name and is now known as Quan Spa.

For anyone who is familiar with the exceptional quality of Chi Spa, its treatments and its staff, please be assured that everything remains the same. The care and quality, the peace and calm, and the gorgeous Spa decor are all unchanged, and the faces who greet you and who pamper you are also familiar.

Yesterday I enjoyed another exceptional massage treatment with Orange. This is always special! It started with a complementary session in the Hydro Treatment pool followed by time in the steam room and a welcome shower afterwards. Then after providing me a cup of the most delicious ginger tea on the planet and a cool hand towel to refresh, Orange began her magic. As always, at the end of her massage I left on a cloud.

As Chi Spa this place was a huge credit to Shangri-La and was easily the best spa in Doha. JW Marriott Marquis are extremely fortunate to have inherited it without doing anything at all.

Yesterday I caught up with the lovely Orange, Ghachung and Jeffrey but all staff are first rate and very helpful. I cannot recommend Quan Spa highly enough. If you haven’t done so already, do go and try it.
