How to Get There
very bad and never friendly front desk.
Not enough food at Coral Cafe (most of the days after 9:00am food is gone and never filled up) and pool towel service (most of the day no beach towel between 9-10am)
Overall great vacation but just know the limitations of the resort. ..I would give the resort 3.5 stars.... Front desk: Surprised to find out after a long day of travel that they did not have my reservation that I had booked about 6 months earlier with Jet Blue Vacation Packages. After 15 min's of confusion and concern, they did find a room and was actually upgraded to a plunge pool room which was appreciated. But No welcome drink at the Front desk either and this does sort of set the mood for the vacation . Room was fine. Knowing ahead of time that it was nothing special, it was actually better than I had expected.. FOOD: Of course you do not go to an all inclusive for the food , but that still to me was the most disappointing. Tried all the restaurants and feel that it was all the same below average food, just presented or decorated differently. The Platinum was the most disappointing. Was just a dining hall with no atmosphere and just tables of big families and tables of noisy children . No sit down restaurant near the beach for Lunch. Everything was get up and order or Buffet except off the beach where only Pizza was served after an hour of waiting for it. The mixed drinks gave me heartburn .. or was it the rather awful white wine.. The Jade samurai was entertaining , but just average stir fry made in front of you. The Beach BBQ was a great idea , but it was a little disorganized . The pork was underdone and the chicken had too many bones. The breads and the desserts were mostly stale, as at the Buffet. The buffet breakfast was the best food and that was when the eggs were made in front of you! STAFF: Hit or Miss... Some were very nice and smiled but others looked like they wanted to be elsewhere.. The concierge desk person called everyday to ask how things were going which was nice, but if you did wander down there to inquire about something, no friendly smile but met with a why are you bothering me attitude. There was also a tour person from the main tour company which was the more friendly and informative interaction. GROUNDS : Very Nicely Landscaped and well taken care of . Nice Pool/Beach area but needs more bathrooms closer to the swim areas. Very Nice Beach, but have been to better beaches( Aruba, Cayman, Turks and Caicos) Not really long enough to walk the beach and walking the beach off the property could be a little scary. Snorkeling off the beach area was great , on days when the red flags came down. SPA: Cassandra gave a great massage and found all of my knots! WATER PARK: Great! Enjoyed the Beautiful Lazy River and water slide and was a great addition to the resort! ....I guess you get what you pay for and since I had never been to Jamaica before , I thought I would try it as the price was right. After reading the reviews beforehand I knew what to expect. Pretty right on the mark reviews, but the positive reviews maybe a little too positive . Maybe if you had children it would be a different story....
My sister and I took our children to this resort for a few days in August 2018. My 6 year old son and his cousins keep asking about when are going back to Jewel Runnaway Bay. We all had a lovely time.
This is a small resort but still has a lot to offer. Most important for us, the beach was gorgeous. Kids (and adults!) can feed the fish (bread, bananas) right off the beach in shallow-ish water, don't even need to snorkel to enjoy that but more fun if you do :) Towels did run out often, but if you plan to swap out in the morning, it shouldn't be a problem...let your towels dry out in the sun like you were doing your own laundry ;) You won't get the sunsets on this part of the island - didn't impact the beauty of this place. Paradise, from the soft sand, clear water, lush landscape and clean, well-maintained grounds.
Food was OK, nothing spectacular but no one was ill :) Repetitive meals at each breakfast, lunch and dinner at the buffet but they mixed it up a bit and moved it outside on the beach one night and one night poolside, which offered a change in scenery at least! Jade Samurai was our favorite by far, followed by Court Jester's evening menu, Platinum, and then the Italian (Moonstone). Jade Samurai is the only one you need reservations for. Make them!
Definitely felt like a kid friendly, family resort and the place got very quiet from 8 PM onwards, which worked well for us with kids in tow this time. I don't think I'd pick this resort if we didn't have kids with us. Evening entertainment was pretty low key, don't expect much...but we were exhausted by that time anyway, so it worked out.
The kids club seemed good, kids liked it when they went, but the programming was changing often due to weather and some of the activities our kids were wanting to do got canceled (glass bottomed boat), no fault of their own. The ladies there were very friendly.
Our kids are 7 and 5 and the water park was their favorite. It didn't have the feel of a big busy waterpark and never did we wait in a line for anything. The kids felt independent enough to go play where they wanted to and because of the small size, we felt safe enough to let them.
Hardly spent any time in the pools so not much to comment there. One is shallow (2ft/3ft) and one is deep (4/5+ ft).
Rooms could use some updates but they were kept clean and we hardly spent time there. I wouldn't spend the extra on a plunge pool honestly, the room above looks right over top of you, so zero privacy.
Took us until the second last day to find the good coffee (Aquamarina bar and piano bar). Suggest that you add a bathroom on the west end, close to the buffet, only 2 bathrooms is not always great with small kids!
Staff were friendly and happy, the vibe here was very chill, we loved it very much. Thanks for a great family vacation!!
Currently here right now and although the resort is small as others have mentioned it is great for families. No complaints with our room we have king bed and my son is on a single.
Our room backs on to the water park, which plays great music all day, which was nice when my son needed a break we could sit on the patio and enjoy the music
The pools do close early which was inconvenient since we arrived after 5, and my son was really looking forward to a swim after a long day of travel.
Food has been good and staff is very friendly.
