Family-friendly resort within a megaresort with a private pool, kids club and spa, just a 10-minute walk from Punta Cana’s white sand beach
Spread over 96 acres, the Paradisus Punta Cana is bisected by a sprawling tropical mangrove marsh. Given the natural surroundings, the hotel decor aims to bring the outside in: The lobby is an open-air pavilion flanked by palm fronds, trellised plants and rich mahogany or rattan furniture. On the opposite side of the marsh, the beachfront restaurant complex has the look of an upscale nightclub, with white cabanas, gilded accents and cheeky lamb-shaped benches. Double beach beds and colorful light sculptures give the adjacent Gabi beach club a loungey, Miami flair.
Bed and Bath
Unlike the design-oriented lounges and restaurants, the room decor is subdued and contemporary, with subtle Japanese-inspired touches such as orchid photographs and sliding screen doors. Each of the 170 suites comes with cushy bathrobes, Thierry Mugler bath products and a minibar. All rooms — even the smallest category, the 609-square-foot Master One-Bedroom Suites — have double whirlpool tubs and balconies or terraces. The Reserve consists of eight villas that share an intervilla concierge service; consult them if you need dinner reservations, spa appointments and the like.
In addition to the hotel’s seven pools (including a lagoon-like main pool and two reserved for children), the Reserve’s main draw for families is the Kids Zone, a children’s clubhouse with a rock wall, bounce house, arts and crafts station and even an infant nap room. Book a treatment at the Yhi Spa, a Zen enclave with palapa-style treatment rooms and a tribal statue–dotted pool area. Of the 12 restaurants at the resort, three are specific to the Reserve — but it’s worth heading to the five-restaurant complex in the main resort, which has a hip spread of international cuisines. There’s also a top-notch gym, a casino, four tennis courts, rotating daily classes and a varied roster of nightime entertainment.
In the Area
The Paradisus is set along immaculate Bavaro Beach, so there’s no need to pony up for snorkeling excursions — there's a natural coral reef brimming with colorful aquatic life running along the turquoise coast right in front of the hotel. Don’t miss dining at Michelin-starred Martin Berasategui’s molecular gastronomy restaurant, Passion, at Paradisus Punta Cana. Though not part of the all-inclusive package, this Spanish celebrity chef’s seven-course tasting menu (priced under $100) is a scrumptious bargain. Golf fans will also appreciate the unlimited golf and zero greens fees at the Cocotal Golf & Country Club. If you’re looking for nightlife beyond the hotel grounds, locals love Akon's Jewel Club.
