Serene country spa retreat in Puglia with an enormous pool, organic restaurant and grotto-like hammam
Surrounded by camphor trees, lush lawns and a 20-hectare orchard home to Europe's biggest fig plantation, Furnirussi Tenuta is a serene spa retreat in the heart of Puglia's countryside. The low-rise whitewashed resort is fronted by an enormous 1,000 square meter pool, designed to look like a lake. Built in 2012 as a modern country house on a working organic farm, the property uses natural materials to great effect, including limestone from nearby Lecce and locally-sourced wood.
Bed and Bath
The 24 Suites have a soothing color scheme (white, taupe and putty gray) and all feature blond wood four-poster beds and lounge areas with sofas. The smallest rooms (Junior Suite Classic) start at 450 square feet and Suite Executives are a mighty 753 square feet. Contemporary bathrooms are equipped with rain showers and Suite Executives come with chromotherapy showers and huge bathtubs with panoramic views of the estate. All are stocked with products from Hermès.
Furnirussi Tenuta is very much a restorative retreat. The state-of-the-art spa offers hydrotherapy services, chromotherapy showers and a grotto-like hammam carved from calcareous stone. Treatments incorporate products made from fruit grown on-site. There are several jogging and fitness routes that cut through the resort's extensive grounds and personal trainers are available on request. In the evening head to the poolside bar for a pre-dinner sundowner before tucking into innovative Italian dishes that showcase ingredients from the estate. Much of the food has been created for health conscious diners like grilled veal served with spinach. Breakfast features figs from the orchard and deliciously-strong coffee.
