How to Get There
This property is beyond spectacular - architecture and grounds. Everything else is less than perfect. Service is beyond horrible and especially for a so-called 6 star reserve. Their systems for everything do not operate sufficiently so very often you could wait a long time for a server to come to your pool chair or your breakfast table - we waited one hour for breakfast food to come out of the kitchen, waited 1.5 hours for room service and they apologized profusely but it doesn’t change the fact. My best guess is that they are 100 staff short and they all need significañt training. We had an excellent butler, Noel, who I would say understood the “service” end of it but one person can’t keep the resort thriving ... it is sad b/c the people working here are trying but it comes from the top and the management is simply not doing their job - this place has tremendous potantial b/c of its physical structure but the prices they are charging for services provided is incomprensible. Do not book here, save your money, and go somewhere else.
Just returned from 5 night stay. The resort is absolutely beautiful. We chose it mainly for the golf and the beach. The golf was great, we played both courses. Our accommodations on the West beach were spectacular and no complaints about housekeeping. We ate at all the restaurants but preferred the food and service at COA. We had dinner our last night at Melao which was touted as their “fine dining” restaurant. We were very disappointed. The restaurant was not elegant, tables too close together, no table clothes and service was very slow.
The staff who were working at the resort before the hurricane in 2017 were very good. Noel (our Butler) was excellent and made up for all the glitches in reservations for tee times. Arelis at COA was terrific. The newer staff members (post hurricane) try hard, but they just don’t have it working quite right. More training is definitely needed. And 20 minute wait for a drink at the pool is unacceptable.
The spa is the best I’ve ever seen. Stunning setting and great massage.
Lastly, if you are a couple looking for a romantic getaway, be advised that there are families with very young children at this resort. I would go back, but not until the service is up to par for a Ritz property.
This was a great destination. The accommodations are first class and the adult end of the resort was very nice. The rooms were very clean, housekeepers were very helpful and accommodating. The staff was friendly and helpful with any and every request. The beach was clean and very nice. The staff was friendly but like I said, they took to long to serve drinks, something you would expect to be prompt for people in the sun.
I DO have a few complaints tho.
1. The service on the beach was not to the level it should have been for the cost of staying at this resort. We regularly waited 15-20 mins to get a drink. It seems that the beach servers had to go a long way to get drinks or there just weren’t enough of them.
2. There were 3 restaurants in the resort and we ate at all three. COA (steak and seafood menu) was excellent. 5 Stars all the way. Positivo, (sushi & ceviche menu) was 4 stars at best. Good food but not good enough for the price. Encanto (Mediterranean menu) was 2 stars and far below the standard that this resort should accept.
3. The SPA was very nice and we had a great massage treatment. However it was not worth the cost.
Photos and reviews don't do justice to this exceptional Ritz Reserve property. We were a party of 3 celebrating a milestone birthday and had an incredible stay from the first buenos dias to our farewell. The accomodations were large, oceanfront and featured a personal plunge pool, oversize bathroom with outdoor shower and a beautifully appointed suite. The sprawling grounds of the resort are jaw dropping - the spa and the plantation are a must see. The restaurants are plentiful and varied - each meal was delicious, unique and memorable. The staff was very hospitable, friendly and gracious, especially Jan at the beach and Ravael our embajadore during out stay. We will definitely return and have already recommended it to several friends.
Beautiful scenery, amazing restaurants/food on property (very accommodating to diet restrictions), one highlight of the stay was the Ritz Carlton staff--especially Ale and Awilda! I would recommend this to anyone looking for a relaxing, luxurious getaway.
