How to Get There
This is our fourth visit as a family to the RC Dorado reserve- first since reopeniong after the hurricane. The grounds look amazing- like it was never touched by a hurricane. The rooms are large and luxurious with amazing views . The Embajador service is spotty- probably something they should just ditch and replace with the standard Concierge. Most days- could not reach them via phone or text- when I would call the main Embajador the response was "they must be in an area without service". Our phones worked without a problem the entire vaca- so I am not sure why they are using a suboptimal provider...... We did not rely on the embajadors after day 1 because the service was just unreliable.
Encanto- service was good and meal was excellent - but the menu was quite limited. We did not reutrn after our first meal for that reason.
Positivo- we ate here twice. Serice was ok- but on the slow side both times. Food was good but quite pricey- don't expect to have lunch for two for under $150 w tip. Cannot beat the view.
Panela- this was probably our favorite spot. Had lunch here twice. Food is excellent as was the service. A little less pricey than the resort venues.
Barlovento- windy but great serice and wonderful lunch.
Malao- venue is beautiful and service was top notch. We unfortunately ordered the paella which was a huge disappointment- not at all the typical paella- rice was drowned in soy sauce and that is all we could taste. Our son enjoyed the mac and cheese and our brie croquette appetizers were delicious. The lava cake dessert was yummy.
We loved the bikes- rode than every am to play tennis and work out. A great perk.
Main pool is spectacular- service was spotty. The staff getting your chairs were excellent. Ordering a drink was a challenge and the service was really slow.
Encanto pool- would recommend avoiding unless you like to hang with the summer camp crew and the beach membership families who overtake the pool. Main pool is much better.
Business center/Library- strange encounter. I went to check in for our return flight (as I have done always when here) and was told- "these computers are not for guest use" and to check with the front desk. When I went to the front desk, the gentleman was extremely helpful but also confused as to why they did not let me use the computers at the business center. As a professional who needs to communicate via secure internet- this could be a problem.
On more than one occasion- there was no answer when trying to call the front desk/reception.
Housekeeping- for the most part- excellent. We had to ask for the nespresso coffees to be replenished three times during the week. Something they should just do daily.......
Overall experience- this is still a magical place. My gut feeling is that they lost the fabulous employees that they had pre-hurricane. I assume they found work elsewhere out of necessity. The current staff is young, new and definitely inexperienced. Hopefully over time and with training this will again be the fabulous place it once was.
This was one of the best hotels I've ever stayed at and I work in travel. It was impeccable service, amenities, cleanliness, service, etc... The food was amazing and I really can't get over the rooms, views and amazing staff! I can't wait to come back!
I travel to this Hotel with our group of 60 people from my company VIP trip. I was expecting to have chaotic atmosphere and stress with such a large group travel together. However, I was WRONG.
This is one of the most relaxing vacation I ever have had in years. From the moment we check-in and welcome with delicious popsicle to the refreshing cocktail in sand bar. And the beautiful ocean view when you first walk into the front desk is priceless.
I was impress by the room and the ocean view from the bedroom. The bathroom was lovely with outdoor shower and spacious.
Our group had welcome banquet event on the beach and the food was amazing. Our group really enjoy all the food that we have at every event. The banquet chef is so accommodating by personally make the food for our friends that has special dietary needs.
Myself and couple of friends had dinner in Coa one night and the wait staffs were very attentive to our needs. Christian was our server which he did great. Natalia was so kind for bringing us extra bread. By the way, the bread and homemade butter here were to die for.
Jonathan offered us samples of his wine collection and we did enjoy the wine and the food in Coa very much. The steak from wood-fire oven was very delicious. Highlight of that night was the executive chef Suti visited our table which we did enjoy conversation with him. Seeing him talk with many tables in the restaurant with such passion and great personality. This set apart the dining experience from anywhere I have been to. Really refreshing to see the chef in the dining room with guests caring about his food.
I am planing to comeback with my family for the holiday this year. We love your beautiful hotel, the genuine people, and the amazing food.
This is a perfect place to recharge. For those of you who still on the fence. Just come and experience this. Come visit Puerto Rico.
This is a hard review to write. First, let me start with the positive because it is certainly worth boasting. The property is absolutely stunning! We were so beautifully welcomed at check in and beyond thrilled with the butler service. The room was immaculate and loved all aspects of the property grounds.
Service at the pool was polite but required a bit of reminding and self initiating to get service. However, both libations and food was great including dining and service at several restaurants on the property.
Now to the not so good. Concierge service was helpful in planning our trip and assisting with a booking a diving excursion for part of my party. However, at check out my bill reflected double the cost of what I had quoted. After pursuing the extra expenses, the concierge was apologetic yet denied ownership of the issue. (As a side, I was quickly in route to airport so was unable to pull up our email exchange for clarification.) The manager at the front desk did acknowledge my frustration and offered some compensation.
The real issue came after I departed the property when I ascertained my email quote from the concierge. I called the property and asked for someone to return my call but they did not do so. Two days later I sent an email to the concierge I had worked with in addition to the contact email listed on the website. Now almost one week later, I have still not heard from anyone.
The cost of this property is exorbitant, so it may seem unnecessary for them to follow up regarding a few hundred dollars. I am not so much about being monetarily compensated more but rather would just like acknowledgement that the concierge quote was not only inaccurate but also misleading. The intent would be to prevent this in the future.
With all this said, if you have the $$$, it is money well spent but be careful to watch for inaccurate quotes and charges. I spent way more than I probably should have so frustrated with how this was handled.
My wife and I enjoyed three fabulous nights at this wonderful resort. We have been to many of the top resorts in Costa Rica, T&C, Mexico, Virgin Islands, Anguilla, Bahamas, etc., but the Ritz Dorado is our new favorite. The food was outstanding, our room with a plunge pool on East Beach was amazing and the spa is as good as it gets for relaxation, ambiance and tranquility. The architecture and grounds are so amazing and you get this blended influence of the Pacific, Latin America and the Caribbean. What is really special about the resort are the mostly local people who work there. The staff takes great pride in working at the resort and in their island as well. Obviously the people of Puerto Rico have endured a lot since the hurricane hit, but they are so warm, friendly and engaging and truly happy you are visiting. They took the time to get to know you and delivered great service while doing so. The hotel is big on delivering exceptional "experiences" for whatever you are doing be it dining, the spa, beach lounging, etc. What a great concept and we really did have a great experience in all ways. Too many people to mention all by name but Nester, Jose and Julio are just some of the great folks. Highly recommend this resort. Can't wait to come back and be in a beach chair eating the unbelievable fish tacos with a cold beer looking out at the ocean.
