How to Get There
I don’t normally write a review. But thinking this time it is important for me to do so. Our family has been travel to Puerto Rico many times. We have visited the hotel twice in the past. February is the first time we have visited the hotel after the reopening.
I am glad to see lots of improvements in the place. The room and landscape were impeccable. Also with the new restaurant Coa that replaced Jose Andres. Positivo with a larger menu and dedicated sushi Omakase bar is amazing! Chef Taira from Okinawa, Japan has crazy good skills of his craft. Recommend to book the seats in advanced.
We did fishing charter through the concierge and it was a blast. My son caught a good size tuna which be brought back to Coa restaurant to the chef preparing for dinner. We have returned to Coa three nights consecutively. The food and experience were amazing. Don’t expect fancy food or molecular gastronomy nonsense here. Coa makes Simple but very well prepared food. The steaks and the whole fish we had were full of flavor from the wood fire. I am from Chicago with lots of great steakhouses but Coa’s steaks topped them all with both quality and flavor.
Our family loves food and we always go to good restaurants whenever we travel. So, to see this high caliber culinary scene at your hotel is refreshing.
We know that the food at the hotel is great but this time the culinary team exceeding beyond our expectation. These are not typical hotel’s restaurants you will find in the generic resort or other Ritzs. The F&B here really knows how to push the envelope.
Attention your team provided was both genuine and unscripted throughout our interaction with everyone at the hotel.
Notably mentioned individuals that made our trip and one of many reasons we already plan to be back this holiday. First, Ivan, Christian and Nat our servers at Coa for impeccable service and attention. Secondly, Chen our Buttler for taking really good care of my family.
Last but not the least chef Suttiphan the executive sous chef for his amazing tuna and wagyu tasting courses at Coa which turn out to be one of the best meal we have ever had. Also on the last dinner, we order the chef special whole roasted duck which we still talk about how delicious it was.
We can’t wait to come back and Thank you for taking care of us.
I recently just came back from a week long trip to Puerto Rico to celebrate my girlfriend and I's 15th anniversary together. While we were there we spent a few days at the Ritz Carlton at Dorado Beach and I wanted to just come back and address some things.
I don't write reviews very often, and it typically requires a bad experience for me to make the effort, in this case it's quite the opposite. Early on we questioned whether to book the stay. The photos looked beautiful, but we got hung up on some of the negative reviews regarding staffing, waiting for drinks on the beach, etc. Everybody's experience is there own, but none of those negative things I read were my experience at all.
From the moment we arrived the service was spectacular. First class. Everybody at the resort were always readily available, helpful, and did everything in their power to make our stay a memorable one. We had read numerous reviews here and elsewhere that the resort may be understaffed with long wait times for drinks, and other services. That wasn't our experience at all. We never had any trouble getting assistance on anything we needed (Chen did an exceptional job checking in on us to ensure we didn't need anything), Danny and Angel at the positivo sand bar were AMAZING and we never waited more than a few minutes to have our drink orders filled. In a lapse of judgment we waited to book our couples spa appointment until we got there and they were booked up, but went out of their way to keep on top of any cancellations and were able to fit us in. Just another win for this group of individuals.
The spa was a little slice of heaven, clearly a ton of thought and design went in to creating the perfect oasis. From the moment you step into the spa itself you can't do anything but relax and let your troubles fade away. The spa itself is breathtaking and you feel completely removed from any distractions, etc. If you book anything over 60 minutes make sure you get there at least an hour in advance to enjoy all there is to do (steam room, cold/hot tubs, etc). Unfortunately I was so relaxed I let the names slip of our massage / exfoliating therapists (i believe it was Luis Antonio and I forget the females name, but both of them were fantastic, really nice and continued the theme of going above and beyond...i feel terrible I can't remember their names but i was really just in awe as they gave us the tour right before our treatments).
Having breakfast on our terrace staring out at an ocean that seems to be about 100 feet away is something we won't ever forget. It is true that those pesky birds show up for a nibble, but this was true at all the locations we were at in PR when eating outside, and as long as you're with your food, they won't come near, just don't walk away or your bacon may go missing :)
I don't have much I can say about the room itself that wouldn't sound like a repeat of my spa review. Seriously, just absolute heaven. Clean, spacious, and no detail was missed. Really enjoyed the outdoor shower, and that tub was like no other (also, all those amazing scents in the bath salts, cleansers, etc...they truly have thought of everything). The sliding wood slat doors so you can listen to the ocean while you sleep. PERFECT!
Seriously, if you're on the fence about booking a stay at the dorado beach, don't be. They are world class, top to bottom. The price can be a bit steep but it falls in line with the experience. Worth every penny.
I just want to give a special shout out to Danny, Chen, James, and the entire guest experience team for giving us a vacation we will never forget.
More importantly I want to call out two people in particular. Angel at the positivo sand bar...this kid is just phenomenal (aside from being a Boston Celtics fan, but we all have flaws I suppose lol), he should be recognized for his hard work, great customer service, and ability to make guests feel right at home.
The other person is WIllis M. You took this trip from what would have already been amazing and turned it into a mind blowing experience. THANK YOU. This is a trip we will never forget and look forward to coming back soon!
To everybody at this resort, thanks for your hard work. Dealing with the public is difficult work and you all made it look easy with a smile on your face, it didn't go unnoticed. Can't wait to see all again soon (next time for more than a few days).

Went to Dorado Beach for a weekend birthday celebration. The place is amazing! The rooms are breath taken. Much better than the photos and videos. The anticipation of needs, the care, the personal connections, attention to detail, luxury, refine tase, inpecable landscape, beatiful views. You don't have to leave the property. The spa is incredible. Food was great. The staff goes way beyond their duties to accomodate your needs and more. These people know how to create emotional connections like no other. Chen and Alejandra are great ambassador of Marriott hospitality. Thank you all.
The time spent here was beyond our expectations. We had such a great service and a relaxing time. This place is really a heaven on earth. Look forward to visiting again.
Loved every bit of it.
Kids had a great time.
Everyone saying the hotel is just out of this world is so correct. The grounds, the hotel room, the balcony, and the facilities are absolutely top notch. This really is one of the best hotels in the world, and that is why I gave it 5 stars. I couldn't give it four even though I wanted to. The hotel is just out of this world. I want to live there forever and be so happy. I'd live to be 100 with zero stress.
Now, you do pay for this privilege. This is one of the most expensive hotels in the world. $1000 a night if you're lucky, and that is for the most basic room. But this basic room is a dream.
And that is how we come to the one downside of this hotel. This downside is tough for them. Because when you're paying $1500 or $2000 a night for a hotel room, you do feel like even the slightest thing off should not happen. When they greet you when you drive up with the welcome drink, I loved it but also expected it. When we did talk to much of the staff they were attentive and would work with you. But again, you expect this.
So when basic, simple things are missed, it just can be irritating. Although honestly I couldn't even be mad. Being there is so amazing with my wife that we just laughed and continued to enjoy ourselves.
The killer, most devastating negative of the place is the phone. You press zero or call the reception desk and you're lucky to get an answer half the time. When you finally do get an answer asking them for anything is hit or miss. We called four times (not exaggerating, we counted and had fun with it) for them to clear our room service. They did NOT come. I told my wife lucky number five would make it happen but we fell asleep.
So we went to the front desk the next day and told them. They were attentive and the manager came over and they had someone follow us to our room to clear them and apologized. But they did not seem surprised. They know this is an issue.
I don't know if they need more staff but they seem to need more lower level management. They'll have seven or eight staff sitting around and don't seem to have a "team leader" telling them to do this or that. Everyone seems equal and on their own.
So outside of the phone, this place is heaven on Earth. Oh and don't even try the texting the butler service. The butler will text you when you get in asking if you need anything, anything at all just text away. So you think that sounds cool and again for $1500 a night this is something that should be there.
But when you text the butler, they may answer that hour or they may not. They may answer that day, or they may not. You really never know. But who needs a butler?? We basically only texted for fun. We wanted to order some special shampoo just to say we did. We wanted them to go to Walmart but things were fine without it.
Everyone else was super awesome. The food is excellent, especially the breakfast. The beach is divine and the help there is awesome. Everyone is so kind and happy to be there! Of course you gotta be super hella rich to stay there so I can see why they're all happy but still it's super cool.
Stay at this hotel!!
Even for a couple of days. It is super insane expensive so just expect a crazy wild bill at the end even more than you budgeted for. If you're the kind of person that even remotely wants to get a good deal then do NOT stay here. Only if you accept that you're going to be raped over the coals and pay a huge figure for the hotel, food, drinks, and if you decide to buy ANYTHING from any of the shops. (Talking about $285 for swim trunks)
But it is an experience you'll never forget!! Heaven on Earth. FIVE STARS.
