How to Get There
I had a bit of a hiccup with reception, however my time spent on the resort made up for it entirely. Namely the animation team, they’re all so full of life and ensured everyone had a great time. Julio and Waldo especially made this vacation one of the best. I’ve been to a lot of resorts and have meet a lot of workers but Julio and Waldo are by far the two best! They’re hard workers and always have a smile to share with the guests, they truly changed my entire vacation and made it one full of fun and lasting memories. I am grateful to both of them. Waldo played a lot of games and took us out for an incredible bike ride. And Julio made sure we all felt included to the dances and with volleyball. I will defiantly be coming back and it’s all thanks to these two incredible young men! Julio y Waldo muy excellente! ❤️ Thank you for the amazing experiences!
My husband and just returned from BlueBay Feb.14th. The resort is within a gated community, it is compact, we could literally get to the pool, buffet, and beach all. within a 2 min. Walk....I've read reviews complaining about the rooms ...our room was perfect, good size, good TV, Good shower * note spend the extra for a balcony ( superior room category) is in our opinion well worth it !we were in room 4303
Food was fantastic ...if your considering Cuba for your vacation, this is a clear deal breaker...no comparison we have traveled to both countries and we have never been disappointed with the food in RD.
The Beach is blissful we did have issues finding open loungers, but then again we were there at high season. Yes the beach vendors are everywhere but take this as an opportunity to have a conversation, * Rosetta braids hair , Dominic has 3 kids and sells jewelry, * I purchased 2 rings and earrings and anklet on the beach very happy with quality,* fair to note I had a problem with one of my earrings and Dominic traded them in for me no problem 3 days later.
Recommendations....my only real complaint would be the lighting at night traversing your way around the resort is difficult due to dim lighting , found myself wishing I'd brought a flashlight.
Here are some general travel tips I've learned over the years which saves time and aggravation:
1) If your traveling to an All Inclusive just bring a carry-on and trust me I'm a girl who likes my clothes and makeup...truth is you spend majority of time in your swimsuits...it's doable and saves you valuable time waiting for luggage.
2) Book your seats 24 hrs prior to departure online for plane *remember the closer you are to the front the sooner you get through immigration, which also means the sooner you can get a seat on your tour bus close to the front...this is crtical when you arrive at hotel to make your check in experience quick and seamless 👍
There you have it ....keep traveling!
Great resort beautiful beach clean rooms and staff very friendly and helpful. Veronica beautiful young girls does a great job of getting people involve and keeping everyone entertained the beach is at the end of the strip and is beautiful for morning walks There are catamarans and sea doos available for rent
We arrived at Villas Doradas about 6:30 A.M. on 30 January 2019 after a 9 hour weather related flight delay in Toronto (Air Canada) and departed in the evening of 5 February. This was our third time at B.B. Villas Doradas having last visited 2 years ago.
We had a large second floor room facing away from the theater. The room was clean, relatively quiet, the A/C and plumbing worked and a safe was included. Bed was fairly comfortable and we slept well.
Staff are very friendly and accommodating. Antonio and Nilson remembered us from 2 years ago and always provided excellent service in the buffet. Food in the buffet was very good and provided variety and selection. At the grilling area, steak was tender and better than we remembered. We really enjoyed the Asian a-la-carte; good food and good service.
Fried chicken at beach snack bar was convenient at lunch time.
The beach is beautiful and we enjoyed perfect weather including a light refreshing breeze off the ocean. They have added more sun beds but they need about 20 more beach lounge chairs for the busiest days. Sometimes it was a challenge to find chairs.
WIFI time is expensive and range is limited; one thing that should be improved.
We enjoyed the cable car and Puerto Plata city tour which lasted most of the day.
The lagoon area on the way to the beach is interesting and has a variety of wildlife supported by the resort. The entire resort including the beach area and three pools is clean and well well maintained. It is only a 20 minute drive to the airport and you can walk to the beach from anywhere on the resort in 5 minutes.
We really enjoyed our visit and are looking forward to returning in March.
A word about recent changes to Tripadvisor. I am very unhappy about the way account reviews information like helpful votes, and photos, including photo likes, are now presented. I could not find a way to provide feedback so I am doing it here.
Overall, we enjoyed our stay here! As everyone else says, the staff are what make this resort. They seem happy, are very nice, and energetic. We traveled as two couples in our mid 30s from Toronto, Canada.
Check-in: Not great, but fast! We were given our room cards but were not given a representative to show us our rooms. It might be because we checked in at night, and perhaps most staff had gone home. We didn't realize we had to tag our own luggage (because we were not told to), so we brought our luggage to our own room. No biggie, we are strong :)
Room: We booked a Superior Room and requested second floor and we got it (not sure if it was due to the request in advance or a coincidence). We were located in the "6" block, 6211 I think. When we arrived, the outside light was broken and it was pitch black, we couldn't see anything. Maintenance fixed it the next day. Our safe was broken, so they replaced the safe about 1.5 days later, and our new safe was broken. It was kinda funny. We just put our passports in a safe place and my husband carried our cash on us at all times. We weren't worried about theft, and didn't experience any. Our room was spacious enough, closet was nice and large, the bathroom was a bit too small, but not a problem. Our water was totally fine and warm in the shower, unlike other reviews. Our balcony overlooked the pool. Outside noise was always heard, but we couldn't hear noise through the walls which was good.
Pools: The "fun" pool was pretty fun and clean, but after the foam party it never recovered! There was a scum on the pool after that that never went away. That's okay - we moved over to the quieter pool and they have these cozy day beds that no one seems to want. They offer comfort and a bit of shade, and that pool is super clean. On our last day, a waiter was serving cocktails, but we had never seen him before. You are a stone's throw from the bar and bathroom, and you can definitely take part in entertainment if you choose.
Food: Buffet was good. We were there for 7 days, we didn't get too bored. 3 out of 4 of us are primarily plant based, and could totally get by. Lots of healthy options if you want them. Tons of junk and meat if you want that as well. A la cartes are cute and they try hard, but we didn't love the food. I am not going to slam them like others have.
Beach: cute, day beds, lots of chairs. A bit windy and rougher waters but fun. The beach bar is 24 hours. You can take lovely long walks up the beach to an open air market. That is kinda cool. There is a poutine shop that we didn't get to try because he closes at 4pm. That would have been nice to try out. The sales people definitely bother you, so if you are a 7 day in a row beach person, this may get irritating.
Staff: so lovely. I would like to think they are treated really well to be that happy. I hope so!
Resort: I liked it. My suggestions for improvement would be to stock the fridge with beer each day. Nice to have a cold one out of a can. Create non-smoking areas - like IN THE POOL. There were smokers absolutely everywhere (except in the dining rooms). They would park themselves at the pool bar and chain smoke every day. I couldn't believe it. There was no reprieve from smoke, ever. Maybe a couple more English channels for night time.
Value: We paid only $1,010 CAD each for 7 days. A steal, and I would say on point to the resort. I would possibly return for up to $1,200 in high season. We felt that we got what we paid for but in a very positive way. We were never hungry, thirsty, or unhappy.
Thank you to the resort, and I hope my review was helpful :)
