With its red-tiled villas, original stonework and dreamy views of the Val di Chiana, the country estate of Cignella is a typically tranquil Tuscan retreat. Perched atop a hill and nestled among well-kept gardens, this hotel provides the ideal spot to get your bearings and plan your exploration of the area’s many attractions. You can sashay through Siena, with its medieval Piazza del Campo and 289-ft. Torre del Mangia, wander around the ancient village of San Quirico d’Orcia or meander through Montepulciano and Montealcino (famed for their vineyards). Also recommended are the splendid Renaissance city of Pienza, the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Val d’Orcia and San Gimignano – known as the City of a Hundred Towers.
Cignella offers a relaxed home-away-from-home atmosphere, with an especially helpful concierge service that goes out of the way to offer up tips and advice on the local area. When you’re not touring around, you’ll be able to kick back in your lovely, peaceful room in one of the villas, where you’ll find comfortable furnishings, as well as a useful information pack telling you all you need to know about the region. When you’ve had your fill of sightseeing, you’ll be able to rejuvenate with a wellness program, take home some local flavors by enrolling in a cooking class or discover the area’s true treasures with a wine-and-cheese tour.
The cozy, welcoming Superior rooms are clean and fresh, boasting sweeping views of the Val di Chiana. Cool tile or wood flooring complements the soothing color palette and exposed woodwork to provide you with a peaceful place to kick back during your stay.
A simple, yet delicious, breakfast is served every morning at the villa. For other meals, you’ll find a list of recommended local restaurants in your welcome pack (complete with reviews and prices), so you won’t have any trouble exploring the rich culinary traditions of the region.
Cignella sits in a rural location on a hilltop near the village of Trequanda, so renting a car is highly recommended. The nearby town of Sinalunga has four supermarkets, while Valdichiana Outlet Village (five minutes from town) offers some impressive shopping. Numerous local markets are held each day in the neighboring towns, and an airfield (15 minutes away) provides magical balloon trips over the countryside. Beautiful Lake Trasimino can be reached in 30 minutes, while Siena and Arezzo are 22 and 23 miles away, respectively.
How to Get There
Had a great time in Cignella with friends. The scenery was beautiful and the villas have a great view on top of the hills. The staff were extremely friendly and even cooked for us a delicious meal one night and provided all the wine. They were also great help in booking us excursions and vineyard tours and even offered to drive us there! walkinf around the estate alone was lovely and there is a lot to explore. Would highly recommend Cignella to friends and family and go back again!
We stayed at Cignella for about six nights. Every morning, Luca - The Manager, made us breakfast and told us about Tuscany and the things he loved about Tuscany and gave us tips about what to do, or visit.
The apartment / hotel room was very nice, clean and spacious.
The Cignella park is perfect; well taken care of, clean, has a nice swimming pool and great views over the Tuscany landscape.
We would definitely recommend it to others.
We were a group of 5 and loved how clean(!) and spacious Cignella was. Each of the three rooms were huge and all had their own bathroom, which was a luxury. In addition, the living space and kitchen are both very large as was the back patio. The staff was super friendly and helpful and very communicative, which made the booking, check-in and check-out processes a breeze. Cignella is perfect for families or groups who are looking for anything ranging from a short 3-day stay (which was all we had time for this trip) to a longer-term stay. I would absolutely stay here again and recommend Cignella to friends and family. Tip - don't forget to bring your own toiletries. Towels and linens included, but soap/shampoo and laundry detergent for your in-unit washing machine are not.
Absolutely perfect for me. my boyfriend and another couple! Close to loads of vineyards, great restaurants and it was so peaceful. The villas are really spacious as well. Think we'll definitely go back.
The isolation of the location just outside of Trequanda makes for a quiet taste of where the locals thrive.
Vinyards within 15 minutes, restaurants 3-5klms away, if planned well you will never forget this place.
We drove to the town on Montepulciano to do a grocery at the local Conad, picked up some wine and a few necessities. Hint: Bring paper towels to wipe up in the kitchen, and extra toilet paper, washing soap and you should be fine. The kitchen is equipp[ed with the basics, and there is a washer dryer, microwave, and a very neat apartment. The beds are comfortable, we stayed in a two bedroom flat called "Rosemarino' and the balcony view overlooking the valley was breathtaking. We didn't get to enjoy the pool because of the weather, but the grounds are perfect to go for a short walk and stretch.. Take in the olive tasting at Renella, just a few hundred metres from the driveway.
The driveway is a half kilometre off the road to a gated residence.
This is worth the effort if you are looking fro a few quite days in the Tuscan country.
