An adults-only retreat in a charming Spanish village, with a plush spa and an idyllic setting

The Lowdown

Set in Spain’s small village of Santo Tomé del Puerto, this adults-only suite complex is perfect for those wanting to spend every waking hour gazing at the lush countryside and breathtaking mountains that characterize the Segovia region. This scenic location is just an hour’s drive from the UNESCO-listed city of Segovia, home to Alcázar of Segovia, the 1,000-year-old palace that supposedly inspired Walt Disney’s Cinderella Castle.
Formerly a 19th-century bakery that’s since been renovated by the fifth generation of bakers, who wanted to pay homage to its roots, Artesa Suites & Spa sets you up with a home-away-from-home stay. Each of the six suites (Cream, Forest, Honey, Milk, Cereal and Chocolate) takes its design inspiration from a different ingredient and offers plenty of living space. There’s also a fully equipped kitchen, with all the cookware you could need.
Elsewhere, you’ll find a glittering spa, complete out with an indoor thermal pool, therapeutic showers, a Finnish sauna, a Turkish bath and a relaxation area. Equally impressive are the unusual pampering rituals, from traditional treatments using organic fruits, sugar, natural oils and chocolate to non-invasive therapies such as chemical peels, microdermabrasion, and radiofrequency facials.
Good to know
Please note that this is an adults-only property.

A hidden Retreat outside of Madrid
Reviewed 10 months ago

My wife and I were driving from San Sebastián to Madrid but didn’t want to spend all of our remaining 3 nights in Madrid. We were looking for spa treatments in Madrid and the average was around €115 per hour in the Madrid city limits. We found Artesa Apartments & Spa on Priceline and got a great deal for staying the night in their suite for €115 for the night. We then both received 1 hour massages for €55 each. So we ended up doing a massage both at night and in the morning for the price we would have paid for just 1 hour each in Madrid. It was a great experience. It felt like a spa retreat. They served breakfast to us at our door. There is only 2 restaurants in town so be aware you are going there to be pampered for the spa. Amazing staff. Great massages!! It’s also a place for skiers in the winter.

Friendly small village

Small 6 apartment block with each room being on a rural theme including honey, milk, cereals, wild flowers. Comfortable and quiet. Friendly staff. Spa facilities a bonus. Limited eating within village, but excellent value for money. Wonderful bakery across road. Easy reach of a number of National Parks and historic towns. Only an hour from Madrid airport, and within a mile of the main Madrid - Burgos motorway.

Beautiful place to stay, friendly staff

Everything about this place is great - clean, comfy and staff are very friendly and helpful. The only reason why I give it 4/5 is because the first night we stayed there, hotel staff were in the apartment next door to us and were very loud, keeping us up till after 12:30.

The breakfast isn't worth buying, I'd just go to the bakery next door and save yourself $$.

Also, the kitchenette isn't well stocked so don't expect to be making any sophisticated dinners!

Lovely mountain apartment, with Spa

Can't get more quiet and relaxed than this! The small village of Santo Tomé is a few miles away from La Pinilla skiing station, this is the place you want to book if you really appreciate an almost complete silence, peace and quiet. Built in 2014 over the grounds of the old bakery, the builing hosts 6 apartments and an underground massage and Spa facility, that is really enjoyable in winter. We booked our stay online for a family room and really enjoyed the apartment we got: 2 bathrooms with heated floor (one en-suite), 2 nice bedrooms, a huge living room, 3 new LG smart TVs that do allow USB and HDMI connections, free wi-fi... Everything new... Special mention to the great anti-slippery shower and the useful kitchenette. We enjoyed a nice snowy mountain view from the "flor y nata" apartment (yes, each one has a special name instead of a room number). The breakfast is served at your room door at the desired time, and features capsules to make your own coffee, as there is a Dolce Gusto machine in the room. The staff is really friendly and strive to help.
Just a few meters away from the hotel is the bakery/patisserie, familly-owned for more than 400 years, that's where the hotel breakfast goods are taken from, and everyting is delicious! We had the chance to visit it from the inside, and around 7/8 people were working, that's just too much for a 300 people small village, but customers probably come from miles around to get homemade bread, typical pastries and Xmas specialties like the famous turrón, marrons glacés... It was crowded!
I know I will be back with the kids, they just loved everything.

Very pleasant place for a relaxed getaway

We stayed for two nights to get a break from the city and to disconnect. This place is great for that! Situated in a tiny village, the apartments have everything they need to make you feel at home. The service is very good and the staff very nice. The enclosed spa is well equipped and while we were there, we had it all to ourselves. The owner also offers a beer tasting with him and we had a nice evening, listening to explanations of the different kinds of beers and local stories. He offered a fine selection of crafted beers from the region and imports.

Remember, this is a remote place. So there is not much choice in terms of shopping or else and opening times are limited. But you can find great local produce!
