Overlooking the sea and harbor, caprese-colored Civitavecchia is a peaceful oasis in the heart of Southern Etruria. Surrounded by nature, and only 50 minutes from the historic city of Rome, this is a place that invites you to clear your mind, unfurl your beach towel and feast your eyes on the most beautiful sunsets on the Lazio coast.

How to Get There
Whatever the bad reviews say, it's true. Our second time here in 1 year as we are going on a cruise. Nothing has changed it's still a dump and needs bulldozing. I can't believe this place gets away with health regulations, as there are none. No point the management replying because it means nothing, if you are that concerned management, don't make people pay to stay in a health hazard !!

If you are going on a cruise think about staying in Rome and find alternate transport into civitavecchia
Surprised Mercure have put their name on this hotel.
Fridge was turned off, open it up & its grubby musty & things inside are wet
Asked for an ice bucket for my room, their ice machine is broken
Bed & pillow are uncomfortable & sinks in the middle
Feel like you need a shower or you will catch something, but saying that, who wants to shower in mould & screen doors are too hard to open. Window in bathroom doesn't open.
No shower gel, glasses, tissues & minimum power points in the room
Desk staff don't tell you much & are no help
Got a coffee, drink up because they close at 2.30 & it smells bad in the restaurant
Bar opens at 6.30 & dinner starts at 7.30, so have to go for a drive to another hotel for a drink.
Corridor outside our room needs a good vacuum

We stayed here last year, it was charming with a pretty view of the sea and well appointed in a shabby chic beach way- if not top notch and a little run down and decided to come back... bad idea...
The room was infested with mosquitoes, as evidenced by all the squished, smeared blood splattered mosquitoes on the walls and ceiling of the room by the guests before us; so gross...a little paint job would not be amiss...
When I asked if they could please do something about it they replied: why didn’t you use the mosquito coil?
Uhm, because there wasn’t one? (In fairness they brought one after a sleepless night of mosquitoes buzzing in our ears...)
The toilet doesn’t flush properly even though they came to fix it...they say they’ll fix it “again” tomorrow...or change rooms but not to the same as I had booked
The shower fixtures are old so even if you use the glass door, the water leaks so the bathroom floor turns into a slippery, dangerous mess after every shower
The site says breakfast included but turns out when you get here that it’s not, I guess we didn’t read the fine print, just the misleading amenities info...which is just as well since it’s awful.
Breakfast buffet: A couple of sad apples stood in as fruit, the clearly undercooked, greasy bacon was immersed in two/three inches of oil; raw, cut up hotdogs were the other option. Toaster didn’t work and no alternative was offered, just a shrug of the shoulders from a very rude waitress who berated us for joining two tables, huffily stating if all the guests did that she’d have no tables, (there were abt 4/5 people in the dining room, it was early morning and the evening before, joining tables had not been an issue. Also, we would’ve asked, but there were no servers in sight until we joined the two tables).
They also claim to have room service but when I called I was told: sorry, the hotel is fully booked, we can’t handle room service right now...If you want to eat come to the restaurant in person...
Which was not only frustrating, (aside from the rudeness) but a pity because the restaurant for lunch and dinner is really quite good with super fresh fish and delicious Italian cuisine. The only thing I can speak well of.
Just because it’s not a 5 star, doesn’t mean sub par standards are acceptable. Nor rudeness.

Such a pity...there’s a lot of potential but I guess they don’t care...
They should pay people to stay there instead of charging people to stay. Moldy bathrooms. Dirty rooms. This place has NOTHING in close proximity. I.E. shopping, restaurants etc. and we ended up at this place because the Hotel San Giorgio SCREWED us by taking our money and then days before we were to arrive told us they did not have a room for us and they arranged this other awful place for us.
After making an initial booking through Booking.com I contacted the hotel to enquire about transport from the airport. Because I was unable to get any response from them I cancelled the booking a month before we were due to stay at no charge according to Booking.com. The cancellation with no charges was confirmed by Booking.com via email.
On the date of the original booking the charges for the booking were taken from my credit card. Despite emails to this hotel and a series of emails backed and forward to Booking.com I was unable to have my money refunded. Three months later I still have not had my money refunded and strongly advise people not to book this hotel or use Booking.com as they do not honour their guarantees to refund.

Good situation with sea-and yachtharbor views. Recently part of the upscale French Mercure hotelchain.
Reception polite but a bit overwhelmed by the many cruise-guests.
Rooms average in size, beds with reasonable soft matresses airco, balcony. Small but clean bathroom.
Restaurant with limited choice of daily specials ; food was rather average ; service rapid and friendly.
Breakfast-buffet was excellent with good coffee.
All in all a average to good hotel but not up to the standards of Mercure !
Appreciated by cruisers for a 1 night stay before embarcation ; the hotel offers cheap shuttle-service to the harbour.
