Zen-chic. Guests enter the clubhouse between two stone Ganesha statues, and it’s Bali ever after. White wicker lounge chairs and ottomans abound, as do oversize and lotus-style Buddha figures and paintings, all brought from Indonesia. A large, dominant likeness of Dewi Sri, the Javanese goddess of fertility, dominates the sun deck, and small purple flowers are sprinkled throughout the expansive jungle estate. To top it off, the parts of the compound are connected by stone pathways lined in heliconias and birds of paradise.
Bed and Bath
Beneath the villas’ dramatically vaulted rooftops, minimalism reigns supreme, emphasizing the views beyond the glass walls. Imported feather bedding and cushy Serta mattresses top the four-poster beds, over which sheer white curtains lend an ethereal touch. The equally Zen bathrooms are bisected by frosted glass, and the sinks are carved out of river stones from Indonesia. The organic bath products feature fragrances of the tropics: ylang-ylang, coconut and natural honey.
There are other upscale hotels on the mountain, but Oxygen Jungle Villas is the only one with its own private hiking trails leading through the jungle to romantic waterfalls, where monkeys and toucans are known to frequent the scene. Spa services are offered in a dedicated room which offer panoramic views of Ballena National Park. At the clubhouse, chefs prepare innovative and mouthwatering local and international dishes. The cocktails and fruit drinks are also phenomenal — don’t miss the yerba buena and pineapple smoothie.
In the Area
Down the Pacific coast from touristy Manuel Antonio, the jungle-covered mountains of Uvita offer a high-caliber, adventure-packed vacation without the crowds. The few distinguished visitors have access to some of Costa Rica’s best kayaking, surfing and hiking; Corcovado National Park is the country’s most beloved, and it can be explored for a day or, even better, overnight. Foodies will rejoice at Playa Ojochal, an unexpected enclave of fine dining where highlights include Exotica, a gourmet fusion restaurant, and Citrus, which serves New World cuisine.
How to Get There
My GF and I stayed at Oxygen Jungle Villas for 7 nights. 4 nights in a “jungle view” villa (#9), and 3 nights in an “ocean view” (#6).
We loved our stay.
1. Rooms: beautiful glass-walled villas. Very clean, comfy beds and air conditioned. Can see the neighbors through the sides (despite the foliage in between), so we would draw the side curtains at night. There is a coffee maker and mini fridge. No TV. Intermittent WiFi and a decent 3g signal. Honestly can’t decide which we liked better. Jungle villas are a little more secluded and there is more of a feeling of being, well, alone in the jungle. We were there in dry season and cicadas (and howler monkeys) were loud! Ocean view has the Advantage of the amazing view. (The rooms themselves are identical)
Best villas (for view and/or privacy)seem to be 2-7, and 10-12.
Grounds: 10-15 minute hike to some private (land owned by hotel) waterfalls was beautiful, and refreshing.
Pool: spectacular. Usually only 4-8 people there at once (and the hotel was nearly full).
Food: breakfast and lunch are great. Dinner was so-so. Drinks are delicious. All Quite expensive! (Double to triple the price of a meal in town). We ended up driving our rental 4x4 (IMO essential) into town for dinner every day (several excellent restaurants to be found, which I will review separately). The road is steep but not too bad. Take it slow.
Service: perfect. Very friendly, helpful, attentive and genuine staff, from reception, to servers, to cleaning staff. I booked a massage which was very good, professional.
We will be back. Highly recommended.
This was the most beautiful hotel we've ever stayed at! We loved ever minute of our stay. The room was breathtaking and we love the bali inspiration, the staff was extremely friendly and the food was delicious!
My girlfriend and I stayed at Oxygen Jungle Villas for just two nights, but they were easily highlight of our two week trip through Latin America.
Each villa is nestled within the jungle, yet still feels sufficiently modern and luxurious. There aren't any TVs, but don't worry, you won't miss them - plus if you really need it, there's speedy WiFi readily available.
The infinity pool is definitely Instagram bait, and the centerpiece of the experience. Despite this, it was never crowded during our stay, since OJV only has a maximum of 12 villas, with 2 guests each.
The amenities are the draw, but the service is what truly makes the experience. Each staff member contributes to the experience; from the restaurant staff, to the front desk clerks, to the housekeepers that tidy the room and make it spotless every morning.
If there are any downsides to staying here, it's that you won't ever want to leave...
Oh my, where does one begin. First, the road up to the villa is cool albeit scary for my girlfriend. However, once you arrive, the first impression and view is outstanding. It overlooks the jungle with a view of the Pacific Ocean. Pure paradise. The staff checks you in and provides an overview of services offered, meal times, and tours available. Check in was a wonderful experience. We entered our room (ocean view) and wow what a view of the jungle and ocean. The all glass villa is so cool. The onsite restaurant is very delicious and good selection. The trail to the waterfall is very cool and worth exploring. I can't say enough about the staff there. Their attention to detail and desire to make sure you have a comfortable stay is beyond belief. Punta Uvita and the surrounding area is very laid back and relaxing. If you are looking for a place with gorgeous views, allows you to connect with nature, and is relaxing with great service then this is definitely your place. Highly recommend it. My girlfriend and I are looking forward to our next visit to Oxygen Jungle Villas
In a glass villa with views over the sea in the distance. Very private, staff are great. B+B and other food can rack up the price but with the position, who cares?! We did the 1/2 day dolphin watching trip. Fab. The 'road' up is a bit challenging in a car but a 4x4 it was a breeze. Might be different if raining. Welcome Pina Colado was indeed welcome! Recommended. Air con and wifi but thankfully no TV. Marino Ballena national park amazing. We saw loads of Scarlet Macaw's and dolphins. Recommended. We would have liked to go to Cano Island - all tours fully booked so suggest book any tours you want before your arrival. I was disappointed, despite offering cash!. 3 nights perfect for us. Waterfall walks worth doing. One of the best infinity pools in CR IMHO.
