Intimate glass villas in a Bali-inspired romantic escape on a jungle-covered mountainside

The Look

Zen-chic. Guests enter the clubhouse between two stone Ganesha statues, and it’s Bali ever after. White wicker lounge chairs and ottomans abound, as do oversize and lotus-style Buddha figures and paintings, all brought from Indonesia. A large, dominant likeness of Dewi Sri, the Javanese goddess of fertility, dominates the sun deck, and small purple flowers are sprinkled throughout the expansive jungle estate. To top it off, the parts of the compound are connected by stone pathways lined in heliconias and birds of paradise.

Bed and Bath

Beneath the villas’ dramatically vaulted rooftops, minimalism reigns supreme, emphasizing the views beyond the glass walls. Imported feather bedding and cushy Serta mattresses top the four-poster beds, over which sheer white curtains lend an ethereal touch. The equally Zen bathrooms are bisected by frosted glass, and the sinks are carved out of river stones from Indonesia. The organic bath products feature fragrances of the tropics: ylang-ylang, coconut and natural honey.

There are other upscale hotels on the mountain, but Oxygen Jungle Villas is the only one with its own private hiking trails leading through the jungle to romantic waterfalls, where monkeys and toucans are known to frequent the scene. Spa services are offered in a dedicated room which offer panoramic views of Ballena National Park. At the clubhouse, chefs prepare innovative and mouthwatering local and international dishes. The cocktails and fruit drinks are also phenomenal — don’t miss the yerba buena and pineapple smoothie.

In the Area

Down the Pacific coast from touristy Manuel Antonio, the jungle-covered mountains of Uvita offer a high-caliber, adventure-packed vacation without the crowds. The few distinguished visitors have access to some of Costa Rica’s best kayaking, surfing and hiking; Corcovado National Park is the country’s most beloved, and it can be explored for a day or, even better, overnight. Foodies will rejoice at Playa Ojochal, an unexpected enclave of fine dining where highlights include Exotica, a gourmet fusion restaurant, and Citrus, which serves New World cuisine.

Great stay at Oxygen July 2018
Reviewed 2 days ago

Oxygen Villas is a beautiful place to stay in Costa Rica with amazing views overy looking the national marine reserve. The service is impeccable and the glass walled rooms are amazing. You can see plenty of wildlife from your room sometimes, including toucans, monkeys and coatamundi. The infinity pool and poolside service and drinks are great. They offer meals for breakfast lunch and dinner and I would say the breakfast is definitely the strength. I would definitely go back!

First class tranquility in the mountains.

Wow & wow! we just returned from spending 6 blissful days at Oxygen and it was just a dream!

From the location, to the accommodation and so importantly the staff, everything was just perfect. We very much went with the intention of relaxation & restoring from our California busy lifestyle, and it proved all of those. The rooms are gorgeous, the grounds are beautiful, the pool & view are serene, and the staff are just some of the most beautiful people. We absolutely loved every single one of them and their genuine, caring, kind natures just made our vacation all that more special.

From the moment you arrive you are so immersed in awe inspiring nature, that you can't help but start to melt away your stress. We chose to not do much and that was perfect for our needed rest, but the location lends itself to so easily be as active or as chill as your personal vacation needs. You will fall to sleep & wake up to the sound of the jungle and its unreal.

We also felt very safe while there, and felt the staff did everything they could to make you stay as blissfully relaxing as they could.

Few tips:

> the jungle rooms aren't for the faint hearted, you need to be somewhat comfortable in nature. We originally had the furthest one away #12 which was just beautiful and so secluded, but it felt a bit dark walking back at night, so we moved to an ocean room #2, and that was a short walk and was great for the level of nature we needed. It was private, immersed in nature, but a little easier to navigate back to at night. and the view of the jungle and ocean combined was blissful. The staff moved us in a breeze without hesitation and with nothing but care and the upmost desire to make our stay special and perfect for us.

> massage: we had two couples massages when there, and they were some of the best massages I have ever had. we had them outside on our private patio off our room while it rained, listening to the sound of nature, it was beyond perfect!

> the road up to the villa really isn't that bad as some other comments say. I heard it had been fixed little in June, so maybe thats why, but it’s really not that bad at all. We took taxi’s all the time and the staff arranged that easy. Also, we ordered the the hotel taxi for the airport drives. It’s 3.5 hours each way, and we wanted to just relax after the flight and not worry about renting cars etc, we felt it was hugely worth the cost, and you can rent a car in Uvita or taxi depending on your activity level.

> We would have loved fly screens on the door to the villas, so we could have kept the door open and enjoyed more ventilation in the room a little more. without screens it is harder to leave the doors open with insects. Also, some better lighting on route to all the rooms would also be great, we however used our iPhone touches and that worked great too :)

Take away - go experience this place. We felt so lucky every day that we were lucky enough to experience such a beautiful place to stay, relax and restore (and like i said, add in activities too) if you so please!

Magical, beautiful, first class all the way and nature at its best… and thank you to all the staff who made it simply perfect!

I had a great stay at the Oxgen Jungle Villas for two nights. The jungle view room was clean a bed was super comfy. The restaurant food was delicious with many options. Our favorite part was the infinity pool and it's amazing views of the ocean. Thank you for making this part of our trip to Costa Rica memorable. We enjoyed the hike to the waterfalls on site.

Fabulous all around!

My husband and I booked a stay at Oxygen for our 5 year wedding anniversary. Everything about our stay was exceptional, but I have to give special thanks to the staff at Oxygen Jungle Villas. They couldn't have been nicer, more accommodating and just all around kind and helpful. Every person I encountered in Costa Rica was the exact same way, just wonderful people, happy to help others.

The villa we booked had an ocean view that was just gorgeous, pictures didn't even do it justice. The villa is constructed completely of glass and it's beautiful. You do have to watch how often you keep the doors open though because bugs fly in fast. The whole villa was beautiful, and housekeeping came to clean it every day without us even asking. I suppose if I had to find one fault in our stay, I didn't love that the toilet area although sectioned off away from the bed area and shower, was kind of see through. I do wish it had better coverage for bathroom privacy. Other than that, I can't think of one single thing to complain about, our stay was beautiful, magical and perfect in every way. The food at Oxygen is great, it is a bit pricey, but every single thing I ate there was fantastic, so the prices are worth it. If you ask, the staff will happily bring you room service, and they even made special accommodations for our dinner on our anniversary! We had a secluded dining area upstairs overlooking the infinity pool, with candles and flower petals put out for us. They really went above and beyond to make our celebration special.

Do yourself a favor and book a stay at Oxygen Jungle Villas, it was spectacular, I can't say enough good things about our time there and we look forward to visiting again! Oh and if you go, be sure to check out the beautiful waterfalls right on site! It's about a 20 minute hike, and you will have to walk through water, so wear sneakers or even better waterproof hiking shoes if you have them, but do check it out, it is gorgeous and one of my favorite memories from our trip!

One more thing, if you are coming from San Jose airport, it's about a 3 hour ride to get to Oxygen. It's fun though and you get to see a lot of the beautiful country on your way! Most of the ride is paved highway and it's an easy ride, however, once you get up to the last 2-3 miles of your journey to Oxygen, it is all unpaved, rocky, narrow, steep uphill road. A 4x4 vehicle is necessary for this part of your trip. We took the advice of getting a 4x4 rental and for most of the trip wondered why we were advised to get one, until we got to the road that leads to Oxygen, then we fully understood why a 4x4 is imperative!

Oxygen Jungle Villas, thank you for such a lovely time! Pura Vida!

Five Stars All Across
Reviewed 2 weeks ago

My boyfriend and I just came back from a one week vacation in these villas and none of the pictures do it justice. We received a five star private villa with an ocean and jungle view to die for. I felt as though we spent a million dollars to stay here but the price was excellent. No only was our villa very nice but the infinity pool and deck with drinks at your service with that view were also to die for. We received a massage on our rooms terrace and even had dinner one night on the terrace as well. The food is excellent restaurant quality with a wide variety of options and bar menu as well. The staff is really the main reason why these villas made it to five stars however. The whole entire staff was nothing but welcoming, accommodating, helpful, and really kind. The room was cleaned in tip top shape every morning while we were gone on our excursions and the front desk as very helpful in helping us set up the variety of excursions they offer. The food was amazing and our servers Roy, Luz, and Steven were the best always making sure we had everything we needed and providing a friendly experience. We really can't thank them enough. We will for sure be booking this once more in the near future!
