Zen-chic. Guests enter the clubhouse between two stone Ganesha statues, and it’s Bali ever after. White wicker lounge chairs and ottomans abound, as do oversize and lotus-style Buddha figures and paintings, all brought from Indonesia. A large, dominant likeness of Dewi Sri, the Javanese goddess of fertility, dominates the sun deck, and small purple flowers are sprinkled throughout the expansive jungle estate. To top it off, the parts of the compound are connected by stone pathways lined in heliconias and birds of paradise.
Bed and Bath
Beneath the villas’ dramatically vaulted rooftops, minimalism reigns supreme, emphasizing the views beyond the glass walls. Imported feather bedding and cushy Serta mattresses top the four-poster beds, over which sheer white curtains lend an ethereal touch. The equally Zen bathrooms are bisected by frosted glass, and the sinks are carved out of river stones from Indonesia. The organic bath products feature fragrances of the tropics: ylang-ylang, coconut and natural honey.
There are other upscale hotels on the mountain, but Oxygen Jungle Villas is the only one with its own private hiking trails leading through the jungle to romantic waterfalls, where monkeys and toucans are known to frequent the scene. Spa services are offered in a dedicated room which offer panoramic views of Ballena National Park. At the clubhouse, chefs prepare innovative and mouthwatering local and international dishes. The cocktails and fruit drinks are also phenomenal — don’t miss the yerba buena and pineapple smoothie.
In the Area
Down the Pacific coast from touristy Manuel Antonio, the jungle-covered mountains of Uvita offer a high-caliber, adventure-packed vacation without the crowds. The few distinguished visitors have access to some of Costa Rica’s best kayaking, surfing and hiking; Corcovado National Park is the country’s most beloved, and it can be explored for a day or, even better, overnight. Foodies will rejoice at Playa Ojochal, an unexpected enclave of fine dining where highlights include Exotica, a gourmet fusion restaurant, and Citrus, which serves New World cuisine.
How to Get There
The hotel is in an amazing place, with great views, wildlife and lots to see. My favorite part though was just how relaxed everything is. All the staff were fantastic, they all made efforts to learn our names right away, and knew exactly what we needed before we even asked most of the time. Could not have enjoyed our stay more, and would be very happy to go back some day. They recommend a 4x4 vehicle for access, and you need it, especially if it has recently rained.
We spent 4 days at Oxygen Villas after Envision Festival. 4 days I will remember for a very long time. Everything was amazing and the staff really make the atmosphere even better.
Will come back again.
I can't rate this place highly enough. It was fantastic. We don't usually stay in places this luxurious, but it was for a big anniversary so we went for it.
We stayed in a jungle room - insanely beautiful. It was so clean, the bed was sooooooo comfortable and the bathrobes..........amazing!! They feel like silk against your skin.
The view, the pool, the location were spot on and the service was some of the best I have experienced. I'd read some not great reviews on the food previously and was a little apprehensive, but I also knew they'd updated the menu so I had an open mind. I have to say, I thought the food was great. I had the beef with strawberry, the tuna (it is cooked very rare), the veggie lunch wrap and the guacamole and all were super yummy.
If you are unsure whether to spend the extra money to get here: do it. It is so worth it.
Couple of things to note:
1- You need a 4 by 4 to get to the hotel. Please don't ignore this.....it is steep!
2- the best breakfast is the burrito. It is huge but so yummy!
3- The waterfall is great, but go to the water pool instead. It's deeper and really cool on a hot day
4 - take a few days to just chill here. The drinks are fab, the view is great and you'll come away feeling relaxed
This hotel is dedicated to romance, and it delivers. What really makes it special is the personalized service. Absolutely top notch, subtle but there at all times. The spot is beautiful and completely private. We are outdoors people, so the jungle and beaches of the area, in addition to being away from crowds, are what attracted us.
We loved visiting all the different beaches from the Osa to Dominical, each one was different, some with calm water and some big surfing waves. The jungle goes right down to the beach, so there are animals all around. Hardly any development, all you see is green. Just beautiful in the southern Pacific area. The sunsets are beautiful on the Pacific too! We hiked at Hacienda Baru, one of the top birding spots in CR. It was very hot, so things were only active super early, but several great hikes through the woods there. The waterfall by the hotel was worthwhile, especially cooling off in the lower pool.
Birding at the hotel and sitting on our couch in the middle of the gardens was great, hummingbirds right there, toucans in the trees. The pool was beautiful, hard to beat the infinity view. The food was good, as expected in a small resort.. We did get out one night for a sunset dinner down the road.
The staff is fantastic, thanks for making it a great trip!
Oxygen Villas is a resort for people who like to get away from it all. I enjoyed my stay at the Oxygen Villas and would recommend it to anyone who wants to get away from it all. I enjoyed the privacy.
