Classic hotel in the heart of Sorrento, with gardens scented by lemon trees and four restaurants

The Lowdown

More traditional than trend-setting, this 85-room hotel in the heart of Sorrento offers a haven from the buzz of the city, whether you’re chilling by the rooftop pool or sipping espresso in the leafy garden terrace planted with lemon and orange trees. Some rooms feature balconies, frescos, 18th century tiles and marble bathrooms, while the restaurants – including O’ Parrucchiano, a short stroll from the hotel – dish up traditional Sorrentine dishes like the rolled pasta classic cannelloni (originally called “Strascinati”.) Gather with other guests for sunset cocktails on the roof terrace, which overlooks Mount Vesuvius and the Bay of Naples.

In the Area

Start at the Chiesa di San Francesco (Church of St. Francis), where you can stroll past bougainvillea-clad walls to the Arabic portico and arches of the cloisters. There are also concerts in summer and regular art exhibitions: contact the tourist office for tickets and information. Cook up a storm of Sorrentine specialties at Tofani cooking school, where you can learn to whip up pasta, ragu and fish dishes like mama used to make. For spectacular views of this iconic coastline, trek some of the 150 miles of trails along the Sorrento and Amalfi coast with a variety of guided hikes.

Great Trip

We went with another couple and had a wonderful trip. The Grand Hotel La Favorita was beautiful and the staff were helpful and accommodating. We were very happy with our room with a balcony overlooking a garden. The roof top bar and pool is a great location to have a drink and watch the sunset. Get the breakfest package and also enjoy dinner in the restaurant. Highly Recommend!

Super hotel. Five stars well deserved. In the city center with a super roof garden where you can enjoy a fantastic view swimming in the pool or having your lunch or dinner. Personnel extremely professional.

Excellent front of house staff terrible air con system.

This is a Beautiful hotel in a great location, Daniella on the front desk was so helpful and couldn’t do enough to assist you.

The hotel room was far too hot and when I complained to the hotel they said the air con isn’t switched on at this time of year.

There solution was to bring in a mobile air con which has an exhaust pipe you had to feed to outside. This meant your balcony doors could not close properly at night Time and you was then lucky enough to hear every nose that happened on the street....shouting, taking, motorbikes etc etc 🤦‍♂️. This was definitely not a 5 start experience.

The bed/bedding was also not of a standard I’d expect in a 5* hotel either.

On the final night we were so lucky as the hotel now decided it was time to switch the air con on, too little too late!!

All in all it was a terrible experience as for 2 nights we hardly slept as it was far too hot in our room.

Great hotel in a perfect location!

We really enjoyed our stay at Grand Hotel La Favorita. The staff was attentive and organized, responding to our email inquiry about setting up a car transfer from Rome in just a few short hours. Upon arriving, they were equally helpful and hospitable, checking us in with ease and personally walking us to our room to make sure we knew where all of the essentials (breakfast, pool, gym, etc.) were located.

Here are the brass tacks of this place:

FRONT DESK - Very friendly and helpful. Organization could be a bit better though... upon checking-out at the hotel, the clerk asked me if I had paid for my car transfer from Rome, which I had paid for the day before in cash (as required). Fortunately she believed me, but that could have been a big problem and it was not exactly a small expense...

ROOM - Really nice, clean, and comfortable. Our outdoor terrace overlooked a little peaceful side street with great views of the sunset. Bathroom was very spacious and the towel warmer was a nice touch. The only part of the room that was disappointing was the bed itself - it was rather hard and I found myself sinking into the gap in between what must have been two twin beds pressed next to each other. Certainly not a dealbreaker, but definitely noticeable.

BREAKFAST - Excellent! Great service, and wonderful selection of assorted pastries, fresh jams, breads, cereals, meats, and breakfast essentially such as omelettes, pancakes, and french toast. These were very relaxing meals and more often than not, they were accompanied by a wonderful pianist as well.

LOCATION - Couldn't be better. Located right smack in the center of town, just steps away from dozens of delicious restaurants, shops, views of the marina, and historic buildings. We had never visited Sorrento before and will certainly be back - this place has so much charm and beauty, and everything that we planned was easily accessible by foot from our hotel. (Even our trips to Pompeii, Naples, and Positano began with a simple stroll to the Circumvesuviana station just 15 minutes away.)

ROOFTOP - Fantastic views and a great pool! Due to the time of year (mid May), the pool was a bit too cold for us to utilize, but we could certainly see it being very popular later in the summer. We did find it odd that the rooftop closed so early - there were many nights where we tried taking the elevator to the roof to catch the sunset, only to learn that it was already closed for the evening. Perhaps it was the time of year, but definitely a bit strange.

GARDEN - Super nice and picturesque! The second floor has some great tables which overlook the streets of Sorrento as well as the marina. Really great for people watching.

RESTAURANT - Also found on the rooftop, the restaurant was delicious and the hospitality here was consistent with that found across the rest of hotel. The wind certainly interrupted our lunch a few times (even blowing a nearby umbrella over,) but we didn't hold that against the restaurant of course. Just be weary of dining here on a windy afternoon.

GYM - I understand this isn't a big one for most people but, as someone who likes to eat like a pig on vacation without growing two pant sizes, I do like to fit daily workouts into my schedule. The gym is small but had everything I needed (weights, few basic machines, a treadmill, an elliptical, etc.) and was open 24/7. And... I was the only person in there every day!

WIFI - Fast and free!

OVERALL - Highly recommend this hotel! There were a few quirks here and there but it's filled with charm and the location is absolutely perfect. Would definitely stay again the next time we visit Sorrento!
