Savor la dolce vita (and the limoncello) on the glamorous Italian island of Capri, at chic Gatto Bianco. Open for 65 years, this family-owned hotel retains its old-school glamour – earned when the Bardots, Lorens, and Hepburns of the world used to vacation here. Add to that the attentive hospitality, vibrant splashes of color and inviting marriage of tradition and opulence, and it’s no wonder the hotel sports a TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence.
Tucked away down a quiet and cozy side street, near the bustling Piazza Umberto I and the designer boutiques of Via Camerelle, the hotel has a convenient address that means you’re never be too far from the action. Beyond the tourist trail and shopping scene, you can soak up the island’s authentic Mediterranean charm. Grand villas, sun-bleached pastel buildings, wild bougainvillea and gnarled flora pepper the chalky-white rock, all giving Capri its well-deserved status as an unmissable European destination.
How to Get There
We spent 5 nights in the 2 bedroom 'Jackie Onassis' suite (the hotel don't call it this, but she did stay in the room) and there is artwork and some photos. The suite was very spacious with a private patio area. The beds were really comfortable and the rooms were cleaned every day. The 2 bathrooms were down a set of steps and quite dated, but clean and functional. The hotel accommodated our dietary requirements at breakfast by providing a selection of gluten free options as well as a good selection of continental breakfast items. As it is only accessible on foot, I would recommend arranging to have your luggage brought up/down if you have big suitcases or a lot of luggage. The staff at the hotel were helpful in organising all of this and also offered to organise excursions. No sign of a white cat, but there was a ginger tom making himself at home!
We stayed here in September and enjoyed the hotel very much. It has a central location, our room overlooked roof tops, it was clean and comfortable. We ate breakfast outside on the terrace, I particularly loved the fresh coffee. The food was great. Staff were very helpful. I would definitely choose this hotel again if I was to return to Capri.
We only stayed one night here but we really enjoyed it. The owners greeted us like one of their family and made our stay pleasant. The rooms are very traditional but clean and comfortable. The hotel is right in the middle of the town with easy access if you can dodge the crowds of holiday makers! There’s lots of little eating and drinking places around the place too. The breakfast was lovely and fresh with plenty of choice.
