How to Get There
Aberdeen lodge is an adequate B+B with friendly staff and is spotlessly clean but does not live up to the Virgin Experience hype it is not situated amongst acres of private gardens and beautiful Irish countryside but is in a street of Georgian town houses and is a 20 min bus journey to the city centre hardly ideal for a city culture break
We are very regular customers at Aberdeen Lodge which offers the very best service that is both warm & hospitable, while discreet and sensitive - there’s no overbearing landlady nor impersonal hotel exec here, but a well travelled family that know precisely what people need while staying away from home. (Privacy, kindliness, extremely comfortable beds, good breakfasts, a cup of tea on arrival, smiling staff, a last minute taxi etc etc) It’s in leafy quiet Sandymount minutes walk from a gorgeous beach walk and minutes taxi ride (or dart ride) into the city Centre, so brilliantly located for all that Dublin has to offer. So much better than any big hotel, we love it.
We stayed at the Aberdeen Lodge for 3 nights and wish we had longer. We were shown to the drawing room where we were offered tea and coffee and met Pat who explained transport options for us to get around during our stay. The bus into town stops almost directly outside the hotel and we always found one there ready, its only about a 20 minute trip into the centre of Dublin. The accommodation was warm and comfy, our bed was huge and the shower was fantastic. The breakfasts were delicious and varied. The beach is also only a 10 minute walk. We found this to be the perfect location as it offered easy access to the tourist spots but was nestled away so you could relax. Ann and Pat and all the staff were very welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. We miss you all, especially Sandy the dog! We would definitely recommend this hotel and hope to return one day.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Aberdeen Lodge. Our room was spotless, breakfast was delicious, the owners and staff were welcoming. The room was warm, water in bathroom was hot. Quiet and overlooking garden. The location was perfect, served extremely well by various transport links, bus stop just outside the hotel, DART station a few minutes walk round the corner. Hotel within easy reach of the city centre, just 15-20 minutes. The local village, just 5 minutes away, offered pubs and eateries less frequented by tourists, and the sea was only a 5-10 minutes walk away too. The owner took the time to explain to us how to get around Dublin. We were well looked after. Would love return. A oerfect weekend break. A five star experience!
Just spent three nights at the Aberdeen Lodge using a Virgin Experiment gift from Christmas. We arrived around 9.30 am and although room wasn’t ready (we didn’t expect it to be), both the owners welcomed us, provided tea and biscuits, silver service, and then sat and spoke to us for over half an hour, giving us our travel vouchers, map and useful information on the area and Dublin. The bus stop is just along from the hotel, with the Dart train just a bit further along. Buses seem to run every 10 minutes into Dublin centre taking around 15 minutes. We did the hop on, hop off bus tour on our first day to get our bearings and then used it again to get to whichever bit we wanted to see more of. Enjoyed the Guinness Storehouse visit, except for the fire alarm going off and having to stand in the car park for 1 1/2 hours! The hotel was lovely and warm, shower and water very hot and our bed was one of the comfiest I have ever slept in - we were in room 20 which had a four-poster bed, large window and overlooked the garden. Although there is no tea or coffee making facilities in the room, I just rang down to reception and either a tray was brought up, or we went and sat in the drawing room. Wi-fi was free and the breakfast was very good, as much as you could eat. The hotel doesn’t have a drinks license, but on our first evening I had a complimentary glass of wine. The service from the hosts and staff was very good, they really know how to look after their customers. I would definitely recommend this hotel and hope to go back again in the future.
