What We Love
- Rural Italy stay at a rustic farmhouse with wine tastingStaying in a lovingly-restored ancient farmhouse just six miles from the city of Alba
- Daily laps in the heated indoor swimming pool that overlooks the rolling countryside
- Stunning rooms that stand out for their exposed stone walls and boutique-chic décor
What To Know
- Taxis coming in from Alba charge a pretty penny so plan on bringing your own car if you're local or look at renting so you can eat offsite and visit nearby villages
- Guestrooms are spacious
- WiFi works well
Luxury finds its home in the Piedmontese village of Borgomale at this beautifully restored 19th-century farmhouse. A labor of love for its owners, Relais Montemarino captures all that is great and good about an exquisite rural region fueled by foodie towns, vine-clad hills, rustic trattorias and incredible views of the Alps.
For discerning guests, there’s plenty here to please; from the inviting indoor pool overlooking the Piedmontese hills of Alba, to the generous breakfast spreads with more home-made delicacies than you could ever pronounce. Add to the mix 27 uniquely-styled guest rooms with lashings of exposed brick and soothing color palettes, and you get the sense that this is a special spot.
Days can be spent castle-hopping in the Monferrato hills, touring the vineyards to learn about the region’s rich grape-growing heritage, and taking day-trips to the major cities of Cuneo, Turin and Savona. You’ll also be just six miles from the historic town of Alba where stocking up on wine, white truffles, and chocolates is very much in order (this is where confectioner Ferrero Rocher comes from and you can literally smell the chocolate if you get close enough to the factory).
How to Get There
We booked their suite directly with Sarah via. We get a call less than 24 hours before our arrival to hear the suite was no longer available and we were downgraded to their only available room, a superior room which was so much smaller than what we booked. On top of that, they quoted us full rack rate for the smaller room. Look elsewhere for a more legit hotel. We are now stuck in Alba scrambling for a room for tomorrow. Ridiculous
The location is amazing and also the structure is very well kept.
Unfortunately we have found out once we arrived that no air conditioning is available in the rooms (although the rooms never really get super hot) and the wi-fi doesn't work at its best, especially in the rooms.
For the rest everything is perfect: swimming pool, sun bathing area, restaurant and breakfast and staffing.
I would have liked to stay longer.
I was in Millesimo, a village on the hills of Liguria, for a business reason and I spent one night in the Relais. Housed in an ancient medieval monastery (so frequent and beautiful in Italy), the relais offers to the guests comfortable rooms, well furnished. some details recall the age of construction of the structure. The service is very efficient and particularly courteous. I took advantage of the elegant restaurant and its refined cuisine.
