In an oasis of charm, few kilometers far from Alba, Relais Montemarino was crafted out of the painstaking renovation of an old nineteenth-century farmhouse. Thanks to its location, submerged in the hills of the Langhe, between Barolo and Barbaresco areas, it offers some of the most striking landscapes of Piedmont, ranging up to the Alps and “Monviso”. The 27 rooms, decorated in harmony with the best tradition of the “Langa Albese”, give a sample of the past, with all the comforts of the present. A special feature of the Relais is the indoor heated swimming pool, with a beautiful view on the landscapes of the Piedmont hills of Alba. The covered structure, with large windows which can be opened at the sides, allows to use the pool during the whole year, while the outdoor solarium invite you to enjoy the warm sunshine of the Langhe.

Wow. What a way to begin our week long bike ride through this beautiful area. Old farmhouse turned into the loveliest spot! Rustic on the outside but elegant and well appointed but not stuffy or overdone. Super friendly and helpful staff ( who answered questions and helped me book restaurants before we arrived- kudos to Michol and Alice)wonderful breakfast, beautiful patio to sit and enjoy a glass at day’s end(complete with snacks!) Nice selection of local wines (and cocktails if you wanted)
Comfy, cosy and just my cup of tea.
Would love to return.
Thanks for everything!

Room Tip: Ask for a room opposite the breakfast building. Beautiful brick walls…cosy!

We booked this hotel based on the website which showed a fantastic place, fantastic location and fantastic views! We also booked because it said that it had a swimming pool opening in June 2006.......... Unfortunately we were not informed at any point that the swimming pool had not opened and on enquiring with reception were told "this is a very famous question" but that was it! That said this is a fantastic hotel with exceptional rooms - the place has been restored / renovated to the highest possible standards down to the door handles! Breakfast was great with plenty of local breads, cheese and cakes to get us on our way each morning. It is obviously very new and I am sure will do well, but would really have felt better if we'd been told about the pool. Also, the closest trattoria is only a 10 minute walk away in the closest village, but this is along a busy road which meant a detour through the hazelnut grove - but you did need to be wearing the right sort of shoes!!!!

The location is amazing and also the structure is very well kept.
Unfortunately we have found out once we arrived that no air conditioning is available in the rooms (although the rooms never really get super hot) and the wi-fi doesn't work at its best, especially in the rooms.
For the rest everything is perfect: swimming pool, sun bathing area, restaurant and breakfast and staffing.
I would have liked to stay longer.

Stayed one night at this hotel - having seen a slick web presentation of their facilities. We had called and asked for a room with a view - when we saw the room - it was a view of the backyard - hardly the rolling hills of Piemonte. The management changed our room, but then informed us that the phone lines in the whole village were down, the credit card machine was therefore down and we had to pay in cash. The lines were so down that they still managed to book us a table at a restaurant in the same village. So on checking out I called the hotel from my mobile, the phone rang and the receptionist sheepishly answered. I just resent being lied to.

As for the hotel itself - it appeared that they were working their assets very hard - rooms were very small and the bathroom minute - you had to be a contortionist to even close the door (room 29) and there was construction all over. Location wise, it is some way from the vineyards, so if that is your interest, best to stay somewhere else.

I was in Millesimo, a village on the hills of Liguria, for a business reason and I spent one night in the Relais. Housed in an ancient medieval monastery (so frequent and beautiful in Italy), the relais offers to the guests comfortable rooms, well furnished. some details recall the age of construction of the structure. The service is very efficient and particularly courteous. I took advantage of the elegant restaurant and its refined cuisine.

We had a superior double room (No. 24). The curtains in the room are anything but light proof. The electric lighting comprises one small light either side of the bed and one light that would be above the settee if it was turned into a bed. The lighting is inadequate in all respects, particularly for reading a book in bed. The lighting in the shower room is more than adequate but the shower room has no outside ventilation and the extractor fan is anything but efficient.

The room is heated by underfloor heating which one can adjust the temperature of in the room but the management appear to turn the heating off at night so if one gets out of bed in the night, one has to cross a cold stone floor.

The hotel is situated far from any decent restaurants so for lunch and dinner one has to be in a car or some other form of transport and travel some distance.

The room door is opened with a key joined to a plastic sheet which has to be inserted in a slot to put the lights on. The snag of this is that one cannot depart the room and return at separate times from one’s partner.

The hotel is generally ok, BUT the bed was awful, the mattress was so hard i could have ended up with pressure sores!I did point this out to the owner and she put a blanket on top of the mattress, i found another one and ended up finally sleeping better but i was not the only one that said that the beds were too hard.
We slept under one sheet and a rather cooked wooly blanket, I really think the owner needs to look into buying a thin duvet, the blanket looked past its sell by date.
There is no food offered in the evening which was a shame, we sat out side with G and T's thinking it was going to be peaceful FORGET IT, the owners have a hazelnut stocking shed just by the hotel and the noise of all the nuts being cleaned was awful, every one was surprised that when booking the hotel they had not said that there would be noise in that period.
The stay was made pleasant by the young ladies at the reception and the breakfast staff, who were very helpful.
Breakfast offered no warm eggs, i can't eat a cold boiled egg just out the fridge so early, why can't they provide a warm water bath that anyone can cook their own egg if needed.
Oh yes forgot to say that the pillows were also hard, not an ideal sleep was had by many guests.

We stayed 4 nights in the hotel which is located at the countryside and at a quit place. Breakfast and service are excellent and the infrastructure with parking and closed room for cycles are also a plus. For the other meals, there are several good restaurants around if you are willing to drive 20-30 minutes from the hotel. For amateurs of cycling, several nice circuits are possible and whoever would like to test an electric bike, they are renting at the hotel!

The rooms are very comfortable and the breakfast is fantastic (you won't leave hungry or unsatisfied). The shower is a bit small, but the pool is wonderful. We also had a massage and it was a magical experience.
